This is an older advisory, and we're reposting it as its a common problem experienced by many Nepali travelers.

With a Nepali passport (this includes green card holders) and US/Canada/Australia-based visa, transit is permitted through Hong Kong, provided both connecting segments at Hong Kong are with Cathay or Dragon.

You will need a transit visa if any segments originating from Hong Kong is not in Cathay (e.g. The trip between Kathmandu and Hong Kong is Cathay, and between Hong Kong is on United or American.

When purchasing a ticket online, there are excellent flights which fly directly into Hong Kong on American or United, and connect to Kathmandu with Cathay/Dragon. By rule, boarding will be denied. Please be very careful.

This rule is applicable for Nepali passport holders.

The cheapest tickets are generally available during mid Jan - May, and Sep - Nov. However, there will be some days during Oct and Nov at higher prices as airlines tend to mark them up because of Dashain and Tihar. Best thing would be to call (202) 552-1508 or search zentravels.com

If your carrier changes in HongKong then you need transit visa and the ticket agent in KTM won't let you to board plane from KTM unless you have transit visa for HongKong.

If you are in and out through same carrier such as Cathey, then don't need a transit visa.

Few cents, Going to ktm using United/American from US to HongKong and Dragon from HK to Ktm, you dont need transit visa. However, to come back from Ktm using such ticket- Dragon and then United or American, you need transit visa or else they wont let you board in- Personal experience ;)
