For those who contributed via Sajha for e-library

Dear all,

I wanted to inform you that 2 of our recent e-Library in Myagdi have finally been established and I'm writing this from Nangi(2nd site of deployment, Myagdi). This project was funded by National Library Foundation  with Nepal Wireless Network/ FOSS Nepal Community(IOE FOSS-Community)as our technical partners and HelpNepal Network, the Project Coordinator.

Site names:
1. Tikot village, Histan VDC, Myagdi- Tikot Secondary School(Established on 22nd and 23rd of May)
2. Nangi, Ramche VDC, Myagdi- Himanchal Higher Secondary School( Established on 24th of May-Today)

After trekking from Beni this morning from 8:00 am today, I reached Nangi exactly at 6:00 pm. So it was completely of 10 hours trekking. Currently teachers training program is going on from our volunteers after the network is successfully tested and pls. find out the picture of the LTSP network attached herewith.

This is the first place that our LTSP is connected to www and thanks to the internet service which Nepal Wireless Network already had.

Secondly, our LTSP has also been deployed in Morong in Janata Namuna school last week which was volunteered by Kathmandu University volunteers.

After finishing all the formalities here, we would be returning to Beni either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow provided everything is covered.

Glad to share this news to you all.

Thanks

With regards,
Roshendra Dhoj Khadka

HeNN fecilitates Mingma Tshering Sherpa

Kantipur Report

KATHAMANDU, June 17 - Help Nepal Network (HeNN), a global charity running on a fully voluntary basis organised a  programme to honour Mingma Tshiring Sherpa at United World Trade center in the capital Tuesday who have climed Mount Everest for 13 times.

Mingma Tshering Sherpa on his 13th scale on 23rd May, hoisted the banner of HeNN with the view point of contributing his efforts for the non profit organization like HeNN.

‘I feel like I have contributed huge help through my small effort’, Sherpa said. He said he hoisted the flag to make people aware around the globe about the efforts HeNN is providing by contributing towards health and education in the remote parts of the country.

At the programme, HeNN England founder President Rabindra Mishra said that HeNN is currently involved with the establishment of construction of CIS shelter in Dhulikhel, Kavre and he is assured that the effort of Mingma Tshering Sherpa will surely contribute in the construction.

HeNN has built 12 to 15 schools, health posts, and emergency relief programmes in the past seven years.

HeNN-Nepal does not only co-ordinate with the Network abroad, but also works towards encouraging a sense of giving locally to support the Network's projects.

For instance, the HeNN teams abroad encourage Nepalis to “have a can of beer or a carton of juice less in a month and donate the savings to the fund ".

HeNN-Nepal encourages Nepalis at home to " have a plate of momo and a few cups of tea less in a month and donate the savings to the fund ."

As the Network’s Administrative costs are sponsored, each penny donated goes directly to the targeted area.

HeNN has its network in 12 countries including Nepal.

Networked Nepal: Moving toward ‘one e-library per district’

PR

LTSP, a free and open-source add-on package for Linux, is seen as a cost-effective, power-saving and durable technology for schools, and even in other sectors.

With the objective of achieving the goal of “one e-library per district”, Help Nepal Network (HeNN), in association with other organizations, has been deploying LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project)-based e-libraries in different parts of Nepal.

Recently, they deployed an LTSP-based e-library at Janata Namuna Higher Secondary School in Biratnagar of Morang district. The donors to the project were HeNN and the family of the late Benu Adhikari who had done his schooling from there.

Likewise, they also installed e-libraries at Tikot Secondary School in Tikot of Myagdi and at Himanchal Higher Secondary School in Nangi of the same district, with donations from Nepal Library Foundation and Canadian Charity Organization. They had technically collaborated with Nepal Wireless Network, looked after by the Magsaysay Award winner Mahabir Pun, for wireless connectivity in these two projects.

All the three above projects had HeNN acting as the project coordinator and were deployed by the team of FOSS Nepal Community.

Earlier, HeNN had doubled as donor and project coordinator when installing an e-library at the Educational Training Center (ETC) in Dhulikhel of Kavre district with assistance from KUOSC (Kathmandu University Open Source Community) team.

HeNN now plans to generate more such projects, especially in underprivileged regions, and team up with likeminded organizations to properly accelerate the same. They aim to establish a training center to train students to build technical resource pools required for such projects as well as to train communities for local support. Their goal is also to provide Internet connectivity to the LTSP network.
