Dont know if this sort of discussion has been made in sajha, but i wanna start this thread to know what you guys think of this. Do, you believe this is the best choice for our national anthem?
Well, in the present circumstances, we cant expect any change, but i wanna know your opinion.

Is the current national anthem appropriate? If no, which song (or poem,...) do you think best reflects the Nepali spirits?

Ya, we have discussed this issue before. You are right gaalab ji. A national anthem should reflect a true national spirit. I have nothing against the monarchy and would not mind a line or two dedicated to the Royalty. But isn't it ridiculous that our anthem says nothing about us Nepalis and only endlessly praises the monarch? We need not venture far from home to get a sense of what the national anthem should incorporate: The Indian National anthem, for example.

I am not sure what the fitting replacement could be. Perhaps, we need to create a new one. If not, some national song like: Hati haina, dati ladne Nepali ko bani huncha.....This is not perfect, not by a long shot, but certainly better. This, and about all other Rastriya geets, put too much emphasis on monarchy.

I would like to see my anthem talk about tarai and pahad, our rich diversity, abundant natural resources, our veritable history, and something that epitomize the Nepali people, and stand us apart.

Well, I truly feel the sentiments of both of you Gaalab and Dumdum. Everybody says that valuable and precious things come on small packages. I am not sure, but our National Anthem is the shortest of any nation in the entire universe, and the contents of it is solely converse on crown and its glory. To be honest, in the current situation, it fits perfectly. Is not that ironical...???

We need a radical ratification of our "National-Anthem" (not to mention "Constitution")with glorifying the country, people, its pride and its resources.

When I was a kid learning all those nursery rhymes, patriotic songs, national anthem, I was so happy that our national anthem is so short for me to memorize, but that was my naivette. I did not pay attention to its content....

On paper,Canada's head of the state is still Queen Elizaeth II 1760s but there is not a single word mentioned about its own queen in the national anthem of Canada.

Why the heck should be wasting any words on national anthem(if new one should be formulated) on monarchy which seems to be going out of the picture anyway?

Rato ra Chandra Surya... this could be a good replacement, but maybe not ideal for it idolizes only the jangi nishaan hamro. I like 1974AD's version more than the orignal one.

And then, what about the flag? Is it representative of Nepal and Nepalese? Well, one may say the triangular shapes refer to mountains. But what about Chandra and Surya? Someone told me once that it represents Chandra-banshi and Surya-banshi lineage of the royal family. If that is the case, then would it not be royal family's flag rather than Nepal's flag?

your point is spont on ,especially when all their anthem does is gratify the queen..at least ours mentions the " gambhir nepali.." and not just the raja ko badhai chadhai..
btw..take a look at the translation of the french national anthem, " la marseillaise" :

current anthem is not that bad. or we can revert back to our old national anthem, before "Shree Man Gambhir" was made the official anthem, which was " Gaaunchha geet Nepali, jyotiko pankha uchali, jay, jay , jay nepal, sundar shanta bishal" by Madhav Prasad Ghimire. That anthem was nice.

"Gauchha geeta Nepali" is a wonderful piece. But, it contains a verse that says

शिबले यहीं ल्याएथे सृष्टिको पहिलो बिहान

Now that Nepal is a secular state, wouldnt this song be a bit controversial if it were chosen as the new national anthem?

why on earth would शिबले यहीं ल्याएथे सृष्टिको पहिलो बिहान bring controversy? if you see, the song Gaunchha geet Nepali has nice lines about buddha, sita, bhrikuti, tista, kangra and everything that is related to nepal. so why can it not be a national anthem? and before 2014 BS, this was our national anthem. well Mohammad and Jesus are not there in this song, but i don't think they have any relations with nepal.

I had started this thread about Nepali national anthem nearly two years ago. It was just after a few weeks King Gyanendra had taken all power from people. Of course, I (I guess like many of you) had not anticipated any imminent change though. But a lot of water (and blood of course) has flown below the Bagmati bridge ever since; and we are set to have a new national anthem. Great news indeed, isnt it? Let's hope we will have a really meaningful national anthem. What do you guys think?

With the government and the Maoist discussing the modalities of the interim constitution from Wednesday to finalise it, a new national anthem has been made ready.

Coordinator of the new national anthem selection task force Satya Mohan Joshi told Nepalnews on Thursday that they have finally selected a new national from the 1,272 songs they received from around the country.

"The new national anthem incorporates national feeling, feeling of the people expressed in the recent people's movement, love to the land and speaks of the glory of the Nepali people," Joshi said.

The team is scheduled to submit the text of the national anthem to the government later today. The process to compose music for it would begin only after the direction from the government.

The new national anthem is divided into two stanzas and has 50 words.

In spite of reports that the committee would compose the anthem selecting suitable words from all the songs it received, the committee has selected the song sent by a single person. When asked, Joshi did not reveal the name of the person whose song was selected. "Code numbers were given to all the songs that were received and we proceeded to select one as per the guidelines we were given. We got to know the name of the composer only after the anthem was selected," Joshi added.

The history of the national anthem goes back to 1895 during the reign of Prime Minister Bir Shumshere JB Rana. Two separate tunes were composed to salute the king and the prime minister during their public appearances and the army band was asked to play the music for them.

Once the two tunes were composed, the rulers formed a committee to write the lyrics. The then Nepali Language Publications Committee asked popular poet Chakrapani Chalise to compose the songs, who wrote two separate songs.

After the establishment of democracy in 1951, which ended the Rana rule, the salutation song in honour of the Rana prime ministers was discarded while that of the king continued.
