Royal move a selfless step: Lalu Yadav

At a time when the Indian government has stalled military assistance to the country following the February 1 royal takeover, one of the India?s central minister described the royal move as a selfless step for the country and people.

Speaking at an election rally at Saharsa district of Bihar, India?s central minister for Railways Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is also president of the Rastriya Janata Dal, said that he was always for constitutional monarchy and multi-party democracy in Nepal, reported the state-run Rising Nepal.

Stating that His Majesty the King has, repeatedly, expressed commitment to multi-party democracy before the Nepalese people and international community, Yadav said that peace and security was the first condition to strengthen democracy.

He said that increase of terrorism had dragged the development process of both the countries, adding if the Maoists are actually working for the people they have no alternative than to shun violence, give up arms and participate in the election.

The Indian central minister also called the Maoists to participate in the forthcoming election in Nepal.

The government is holding municipal polls on February 8 next year. The seven agitating political parties have decided to boycott the polls, but Maoists are yet to comment about the elections.

?The only wish of the Nepalese people is peace and security and for that the agitating political parties must come for dialogue with His Majesty the King,? the paper quoted Yadav as saying.

Yadav, also, said that the present Indian government was walking together with His Majesty?s Government. Yadav said that the Indian government had allocated IC Rs. 300 million for the Koshi High Dam Project. nepalnews.com pb Nov 08 05
