I found out that I was eating a lot and spending 900-1000 a month for food monthly. Is it too much? Will I save money if i cook and eat at home?

Even grocery shopping in walmart costs 100-200 a week, ain't that right? Everything is expensive nowadays like fruits costs a lot. How about the hassle of cooking, cleaning, waste of gas money and time, I don't know what to do.

Usually I eat breakfast that consists of 2 strips of bacon, 2 slice of bread, 2 eggs, oatmeal with blueberry and banana and a coffee, then i go to work and for lunch I order chinese or mexican or itlaian or sometimes indian which costs me from 10-20, then i share grocery with my roommate which comes out to be 250-300 for rice, lentils and meat a month. For the breakfast I buy it separately from Fiesta like every 2 days 10-20 bucks. Even the drinking water separately.

Health is wealth so eat in home beacon and egg plus little vegetables won't cost you more than 150 dollar a week for breakfast.

900 to 1000 is reasonable. I do eat mostly at home and go out sometimes. Still, I spend around 800 per month. Now, you will be saving all those hassles of cooking, cleaning etc PLUS lot of savings on utilities. So, I think you are good...

Let me calculate whole grocery cost/month. Breakfast: 60 eggs/month = 5 dozen brown eggs = 5 x $3.00 = $15.00 Beacon 60 slice = 10 Lb = $ 50.00 Banana = 30 units = 0.50 x 30 = $ 15.00 Blueberry = $1/day = $ 30.00 Milk 8 gallon/month = $ 32.00 Oatmeal = $ 15/month Coffee 4 pack a month = $ 40.00 Total break fast = $ 197.00 Lunch: $ 9.00/day (most buffet lunch menu cost same)= 20 days work x 9 = 180.00 Dinner: Basmati Rice $1/lb/day = $30.00 Vegetable $1/day = $ 30.00 Meat 1/2 Lb / day = 30 x $ 2.00 = $60.00 Spices $ 30/month Total cost = $(197+180+30+30+60+30) = $ 520.00 approx There is trade off. If you eat at home, you don't eat lunch outside and vice versa. $900.00 food cost/month is quite high, unless you eat steak, seafood, pizza, gyro, fast food regularly. Note: This is not my monthly plan. Utilities is part of rent.

dindukhi your calculation is wrong Blubbery costs 5 dollars per box in my area and it lasts only 2 or 3 days so lets put daily value 1.75 not $1 eggs cost 4.99 per dozen in my area and it lasts just 6 days, so I l put $30 a month not $15 oatmeal costs 5-6 bucks and it lasts a week so total should be 20 a month you forgot the bread that lasts a week, you forgot the almond butter or peanut butter that goes with bread
The place where i live lunch buffet is 12.99 or something, but you can't eat same damn food everyday, so sometimes order sandwich, pizza, quesidillas, philly melt, pasta etc. Further i don't eat those cheap junk foods from macdonalds, taco bell, jack in the box etc. I prefer mom and pop restaurants or mostly Denny's or Papasitos or TacoCabana or Papa's bbq etc. About the dinner like rice and dal and meat, i barley eat one meal in 2 days but my roommates they eat 2 meals a day, I can't say anything about it. They take cooked food to work too, but i don't.
Further add snacks like almonds, cashews, oranges, apples, grab a taco or gordittas from taco stands later at night

कही सेतोकेटोले फेरी न्वाराण गरे यो धागो बुनेको त हैन ? I questioned the motto of this thread? Someone was talking , gee I am paying too much for my car insurance how much you guys pay for insurance, drive regular car like Camry or Accord and live in Suburb area ( Mercedes owner have to pay more). Same applies to your groceries shopping , each store charges differently for the same product. If you go to Whole Food you may be eating ORGANIC / Natural food and paying 3 times. On the top WHAT you eat and HOW you eat. A blueberry cost 5 per box and you are not eating a box a day? If you are then I will suggest to change your eating habit. Bottom line is you can afford to pay that much and paying for it, you are blending Capitalism and fitting right very well.
