Sunil Jha has become the first Nepali to get the Cisco Certified
Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification offered by Cisco. This is the
highest level of technical networking certification offered by Cisco.

According
to the Cisco website, in the SAARC region, India has 645 CCIEs,
Pakistan has 71, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have 5 each and Nepal and
Bhutan have 1 each while Maldives has none.

There are a total of 19,753 CCIEs worldwide. nepalnews.com Jun 08 09

Extremely surprised to hear that there are no other Nepalese CCIEs until today. Not sure if it's even possible to accurately track it, unless they are going by the # of applicants that actually apply from Nepal. Also, it's very less likely that there are only 5 Sri Lankans that hold the cert. One of my co-workers from Sri Lanka got his last year -- and it's hard to believe that there are only 4 more CCIEs from that country in the whole world; again - unless they count the ones that apply from their countries.

I remember doing a quick search few months ago to see if I could count Nepalese CISSPs; I randomly picked some of the Nepali last names, and ended up finding 3. I'm sure I missed many, if not most of the lastnames. Some of them were even common among Indians -- and it was just not possible to be certain.

Regardless, congratulations to the new  Nepalese CCIE recepient. :)
