Call to Join INLS Global Network of People of Nepali Origin

Dear Nepali community members,

International Nepali Literary Society is a non-profit, religious secular, apolitical and federally tax exempt membership based international organization registered in Washington DC in 1991. As an internationally established organization dedicated in promoting, preserving and creating awareness of Nepali languages, literature and culture through out the world, our mission is to uphold our excellent reputation and consistently exceed the expectation of Nepalis and friends of Nepal by providing significant encouragement for, and facilitating the process of learning, reading, writing, publishing, distributing cost efficient, high quality Nepalese literary works. Please visit INLS website at http://www.inls.org for more information.

International Nepali Literary Society (INLS) Headquarter, Washington D.C. is planning on expanding it’s horizons by starting activities to promote Nepali language, literature and culture across North America and other countries. We are taking a ‘chapter’ approach. It means we start different chapters in the Cities/States where Nepali population is growing and people are interested and agree with the mission of INLS. The Chapters work as focus group with other existing community organizations and utilize the resources on INLS Global Network of People of Nepali Origin.

About INLS Global Network of People of Nepali Origin

Currently, INLS has 14 chapters worldwide including Japan, Russia, Belgium, Australia, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Bangaladesh and in various states of U.S. including Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina and Texas. At this time we also have representatives in 7 other states in the US and 6 other countries. The representatives are working in establishing full fledge chapter in their respective areas. With this expansion, INLS Global Network has reached to 28 different regions around the globe. As the only prominent Nepali institution with such an expanded global network, INLS is actively working on its campaign of preserving Nepali Identity in the Diasporas. It may be recalled that INLS has recently put forward a 9 point proposal to all the Nepali communities around the globe with a slogan- “Lets Unite Every Community to Keep Nepali Identity Alive and Vibrant”. The detail of the chapters and representatives on INLS Global Network is published at this location:

We plan to announce INLS Chapters in New Hampshire (NH) and Massachusetts (MA) within a week and possibly on additional states of US and other countries soon. If you are interesting in serving on one of the Chapters to promote Nepali language, literature and culture in your area, please contact INLS at info@inls.org as soon as possible. Please also send an e-mail if you know of someone who would be interested in INLS activities.

How to establish INLS Chapter?

There are few procedures to follow in order to expand new chapters, develop local programs and organize fund raising to promote Nepali language, literature, art and culture. To legalize INLS as a not for profit organization with tax free exemption in different states of the USA, it needs to be registered as a foreign entity of the headquarter in DC. Registration should be done with the corporation of bureau in prospective State Government. BY-Laws are readily available and if necessary, INLS is open for amendments.

Let me draw your attention to the benefits of establishing INLS chapter as foreign entity of the Headquarter in DC:
1. No need to prepare separate by-laws;
2. Automatic non-profit and tax-exempt status – allow tax deduction for donors;
3. President of the Chapter becomes a member of INLS Headquarter Executive Committee;
4. Founding Presidents receive honorary life membership;
5. Voting rights for all members of the Chapter at the Headquarter;
6. Separate Website and e-mail addresses at inls.org (i.e. http://www.inls.org/nebraska or http://www.inls.org/japan ).
7. Access and sharing of all resources of INLS Global Network - reducing duplication of work and promotion of standardization;
8. It is a membership driven organization. Therefore, chapters keep 50% their membership revenue for local activities;
9. All the members enjoy INLS publications;
10. Participate in various projects initiated by INLS; and
11. Enjoy networking of likeminded Nepalis.

We sincerely request you to join and work with INLS in uniting every community around the world to keep Nepali identity alive and vibrant.

Sincerely,
Puru Subedi
President 2002-04
