I do not want to believe what my International Director says. She was hired recently and she gave me a lot of trouble with my status and didn't allow me to work on campus. Basically, she doesn't know anything and now she is saying I (or we, all the international students) have to renew my I-20 every summer I leave my college. My old I-20 is no longer valid, and I need to get my I-20 signed even if I am just travelling within the United States. Is this all crap or is it true? If anybody has any knowledge of the new rules set forth by INS recently, please fill me in.

Reeya, It is true that all foreign students are to get a new I-20 every year now, or, at least this year. I also have been notified by my school that I need to get a new I-20 before I can register for the fall semester.

hey reeya, yeah its true. you go to get new I 20 this year. its because of INS has new system called SEVIS. so each and every international student will be listed in their SEVIS data system and can be easily track down. now our new I 20 will have bar code also . so you got to get new I 2o and notify your internation office even if you change your address, change your major, extending your program or whatever you do related to your stay in usa and your school. well you dont need to tell them where you work though. but you have to get new I20. new SEVIS I 20.

Reeya, You should be allowed to work on campus, no matter old or new I-20. And its true that you have to update and inform the international office if you are going out as well. That's what they have said to me in our int'l office. Aaru specific question bhaye sodhe hunchha ni.

All International students require new I-20 and if you going Nepali this summer and do not have a visa, make sure you have the new one and make sure your college has entered your name in SEVIS system , otherwise you will not get a visa even if you have all your documents. Dont forget to get your Grade transcript, financial aid form, bank account if you have any. When you come back, the INS will take your I-20 and keep it . dont panic !! they will send it to your college later . Reeya , try to maintain a good relation with you international advisor, its very crucial esp with all the INS changes. astitwa
