Dear friends,

Gallery Nine, located in Lazimpat behind Lazimpat Cold Store, is a new venue in Kathmandu for contemporary art and culture.

Gallery Nine is a collaborative venture set up by photographers, visual artists, writers, journalists and art lovers.

It is our hope that with our wide range of interests and experience, we can help infuse Kathmandu's increasingly lively arts and culture scene with vigor and vitality.

Gallery Nine will be launched in the following manner:

April 9, 3pm: Press meet, followed by a soft launch of an exhibition of photographs by Mani Lama.

April 10, 5:00 pm: A lectue by Dr Gisela Barche (art historian, originally from Germany living and teaching at Seanr University, Italy)

April 11, 5:00 pm: A multilingual poetry reading. Purna Bahadur Vaiday(Nepal-bhasha poems, with Wayne Amtzis reading English translation); Viplob Pratik(Nepali poems);Wayne amtzis (English poems) and Momila (Nepali poems)

April 12, 5:00 pm: Theatre performance by Sunil Pokharel.

April 13, 5:00 pm: A slide show on by Nick Dawson.

April 14, 5:00 pm: A film screening of [either "Frida" or "Pollock"]

April 15, 5:00 pm: Tabla/didgeridoo duet by Sarita Mishra and kanika, followed by an unplugged performance of songs by Deep Shrestha.

April 16, 5:00 pm: The official inauguration of Gallery Nine by His Excellency Ambassador Claude Ambrosini.

Please do come and share in our celebrations. Since the gallery space is limited and we can take in only about 30 people for each of the programme. Interested participants are requested to contact Kanchan at telephone 4436944 after 12 noon for booking a space.

Thank you,
Gallery Nine - Family.

That sounds fun. Good Luck to Gallery nine. Do they generate revenue from the events and sale of art alone or do they have a grant form somewhere?

Surya,

It's a combination of private investments, sales, and maybe a grant or two.

*****

In Nepal, it seems that those who call themselves artists know nothing about management; and those who are into management know nothing about the arts.

Hence, our artists are materially poor.
And our managers are emotionally poor.

Gross generalizations, I agree.
But hey, today is the last Friday of the year 2059.

A very Happy New Year to you all.
Sabai ko falos fulos, ramro hos.
