Recently, in an unfortunate incident, a student lost his life in his vibrant days of living. The loss of his life is undoubtedly sad. May his soul rest in peace.

Students are protesting everywhere. I read Butwal is tensed and so is/was Kathmandu. Protesting an unjust killing is remarkable and admirable. But I wonder where all these students were when Maoists were gunning down people one after another? Why couldn't they protest then?

Protesting against an unjust act is as I said above is remarkable but they shouldn't be allowed to destroy personal and public properties. Everyone who is identified destroying personal and public properties (attacking innocent people, cars, shops, vandalizing street-traffic lights, sidewalk bars etc) should be prosecuted. Protest is not and should not be a license to riot.

Just my thought.

"Over forty UML cadres handed over a memorandum to general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal Thursday expressing disenchantment over the unhealthy competition among top notch leaders to rise to power instead of focusing on problems before the nation. " [nepalnews.com, April 11, 2003]

Good job comrades. Get rid of those "satta lampatharu". I wish these comrades could throw those so called "top notch" leaders away to a stinky corner and move on with their noble intention of focusing on problems before the nation. Just a memorandum won't work though. I hope comrades realize this sooner.

"..According to reports received here, Butwal was virtually shut down today on the call of the students who were protesting the death of one of their comrades in Tuesday police firing. Some violence did occur when protestors smashed cars, buses and motorcycles, according to our reporter in Butwal. Protestors also smashed the window panes of a branch office of the Rastriya Banijya Bank..."

What kind of justice are these protestors looking for? They can do whatever they want in the name of protest? They demand justice resorting to unjust actions. Disgusting!

"In Kathmandu today, student leaders of various student groups sat down for a joint-meeting to chalk out future protest programmes. The student leaders of eight student organisations reached a consensus to launch "sterner protests" nationwide as they came up with second phase of their demonstration at the end of the meeting."

They couldn't find not even a single "chalk" to "chalk out" current or future protest programs when Maoists were roaming the nation looting and killing people. Forget about "sterner protests" they were not even around to present any sort of effective protest. Tyati bela tang muni puchhar lukayera hinne haru ahile sadhe huna khojdaichhan....

Now it seems to me that these student leaders are ready to play a "laas ko rajniti".
