Hey guys, this is the new thread for the play-offs discussion. As you know, this is the THIRD basketball thread after we hit two maxout ...
Rusty Posted on 22-Apr-03 10:21 AM

What do you think about the Lakers tonight? Will they win? I think they will lose tonight....
khimu Posted on 22-Apr-03 10:34 AM

i don,t think so Rusty
lakers will make it this one 2
what about milwakee bucks ,they will or no

GUY Posted on 22-Apr-03 10:38 AM

C'mon Rusty.....U know the Lakers rock!!! They are on the flow!!!........The victory is inevitable..... When you have two 2 dominant superstars like Kobe and Shaq, it is total different story......
Gosh....I wished the Spurs had lost!!!......The Lakers will have to take care of them too somehow...!!!
hum-ba-ba Posted on 22-Apr-03 10:53 AM

i hope you are right rusty.. but the way they played the other night, i don't see how that's gonna happen. i hope the law of averages worked, and they dont shoot like they shot the other night.
Rusty Posted on 22-Apr-03 12:54 PM

TWolves still have home court advantage.
KG must prove he can beat the lakers, at least one game and not swept by the lakers
AX Posted on 22-Apr-03 01:01 PM

Lakers will sweep the T-Wolves.

Pound inside BATMAN and let ROBIN hit the outside jumpers :-)

I think 76ers and the Hornets game is more excited than other matchups. Hornet have no superstar with qualities players and productive bench players, where as 76ers depends heavily on AI. I think Baron Davis/Wesley should guard AI rather than Stacey 'Plastic Man' Augmon.

Rusty Posted on 23-Apr-03 05:31 AM

Congrats TWolves:))))))) It's all KG and it's all Troy Hudson.... What a great win!! See my prediction!!

AX......They at least didn't get swept. You have to be prepared mentally to defy the Lakers. If you notice the stats, Shaq and Kobe have 27 points apiece, rest of the teamates' output almost "aloooo."

I am also happy that Bucks beat that appaling team Kid's Nets...:)) J hos, alien Sam Cassel le garyo:)
AX Posted on 23-Apr-03 06:58 AM

I was wrong. TWOLVES did not get swept. Kudos to KG and the gang.

they played superb. They played like they can beat the Lakers unlike 1st game. KG was great and TROY(???) was amazing. Madsen and Horry combo is no match for KG. I think Samaki Walker should be guarding KG.

What happened to the supporting cast of Lakers. Shaq did his part, Kobe took his share of shots. I guess they are not that of a good that we are thinking. Les see what ZenMaster does rest of the series.
yoUnGbLooDZ Posted on 23-Apr-03 07:33 AM

wow.. wut a losss by la lakers.. fun-tats-tit

kg - with a mvp plays.. he does deserve.. it.. with the help of troy hudson n scherbiak (damn donno how they spell his name)

lets see.. what AI is up fo this evening.. against hornets..

YB
Rusty Posted on 23-Apr-03 07:37 AM

Zen master will certainly give his positive energy to his team in the next game. I agree that there's NO match for KG, I don't think Walker can guard him either. Same thing for the Wolves; there's NO match for the Kobe.

If TWolves win this series, I will give big credit to Troy!!!!
DWI Posted on 23-Apr-03 07:50 AM

That's not a very promising win. If it were Sczerbiak (same here Young), & KG that would have given some hope that T'wolves can repeat the performance. Hudson isn't a streaky player. Oh, I so wish if only Lakers would go down in the first round. But that's just a dream. But yeah, They will be out in the Eastern Conference Semi or Final, hopefully.

Rusty, Sam does look like an ET with that cheaseled bald head. But he is the only person with smile all the time in any professional sports here, is that right? Bucks don't stand a chance against the Nets, another team I hate.
AX Posted on 23-Apr-03 08:33 AM

oooooouch that was strong DWI. It could be we being in NY we don't like the team across the river. It was indeed nailbiting game last nite. I picked BUCKS to win the series and still think they can win the series.

The Glove, Timi Thomas and Cassell played great. Kukoc played terrific defense (unheard of for European players). They better hitting those FT. They FT % was worse than FG %, this is the first time I have seen this kinda stat.
Rusty Posted on 23-Apr-03 12:35 PM

Ben Wallace was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the second time in a row. Congrats to him... Everybody knew that anyways...
hum-ba-ba Posted on 23-Apr-03 01:07 PM

yes!! KG and twolves really stepped up to the challenge against lakers, and showed us all that lakers can be beaten. nobody game them a chance, well except rustyji, and they came out aggressive and kept the lakers from crawling back into the game. one thing it shows though is how well a team has to play to take lakers down. both KG and hudson had career games, and not to mention wally scored 20+. and all this while they held kobe and shaq to average performances. the difference though was the non-performance of the lakers supporting cast. we have seen throughout the season that the supporting cast have ups and downs, and they played miserably. maybe lakers aren't as invincible this year in the playoffs..

so rusty, what does the psychic power in you say about the next game?
Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 23-Apr-03 01:19 PM

I hope that TWolve gonna sideline Laker 4-2. I won't wonder if SPURS oust in first round. There will be lots of DIRK in tonights game between MAVS & BLAZER.
AX Posted on 23-Apr-03 01:35 PM

SHIVA SHIVA, you want lakers to be beaten and Spurs as well. Seems like the reason is you want your fav team MAVS to be in finals. BUT they will be playing KINGS next round, I am sure they will beat Blazers easily.

Lakers will bounce back and win another three in a row. wot ya say Rusty? you the one who is making right prediciton here ;)
DWI Posted on 23-Apr-03 05:33 PM

Ax, dudh bhaat in your mouth. Hope Nets loose, but I doubt it. If Sixers elevate their level of game and Eric Snow pulls the team together, they can goto the finals. Mashburn is hurt and that hurts New Orlean's chance, otherwise I would bet on New Orleans too.

U're right. Blazers cannot go past the Kings. Now that Pippen is not playing too, that adds to the woe.
Yeah Rusty, a no brainer on Ben Wallace. One commentator said, its not just his body and the technique, because of which he gets so many rebounds and blocks, its mostly because he wants to. His will to just do it is what drives him to the top (defensively).

Can Kings and Spurs play on the final, I mean is that possible categorically? If so, then that is your Western Conference final. Sorry, Shiva your Dallas is good for Regular season only (like T'wolves and Seattle Mariners in Baseball).
Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 24-Apr-03 07:54 AM

Let's wait until couple of game. Dallas will be in Western playoff final. I don't think Spurs & Lakers' escalation to the second round.
Rusty Posted on 24-Apr-03 08:12 AM

Hum-baba
TWolves Vs Lakers.... Lakers will win tonight because they have now home court advantage. Kobe will score over 40 points, and Shaq will carry on team with his regular stats....

NOTE: I am not the Lakers fan at all.... I would love to see TWolves winning the series.
oys_chill Posted on 24-Apr-03 08:15 AM

ok ok......les not jump to conclusions!

don't take ONE FLUKE TO BE THE DESTINY! i honestly think, if there's one team that can beat lakers this year, it has to be sacramento......its just toooooooo wounded..ehehe.....would love to see indiana go through in the east! rest better luck next year! ;)

Oys
Rusty Posted on 24-Apr-03 08:19 AM

Magic Vs Pistons - Hell with TMac's teammates... It was completely one man show last night, TMac scored 46 points and all other teamates were below 10...

76er Vs Hornet - Hornets are usually very good at the play-offs, but they will be swept because of Baron Davis's injury and now mashbourn's broken finger....
DWI, 76ers will reach to the final, shoudl they play with the same intensity.

Mavs and Kings will sweep the first round....
Rusty Posted on 24-Apr-03 08:21 AM

Oys, never underestimate the Celtics. They might eliminate the pacers....
AX Posted on 24-Apr-03 08:38 AM

well done 76ers. Good job by starting frontline of van horn, Derrick coleman and Kenny Thomas. Aaron McKie needs to play better.

would love to see the team advanced to the next round
hum-ba-ba Posted on 24-Apr-03 02:07 PM

you're probably going to be right again rusty, the lakers will come attacking tonite, epescially kobe. they surely didn't enjoy the loss the other night. wolves are likely to stick to the small line up that worked the other night, but they can't expect to be shooting 57% every night. they need to have wally and troy/peeler scoring...

kings and mavs look like they have things under control. i still think the suns will put up some challenge against spurs, but spurs are too composed a team to loose in the first round.
hum-ba-ba Posted on 24-Apr-03 02:17 PM

it's good to see bucks taking the second game of the series against the nets. remember nets having to play that tough series against pacers last year? i think this series might go the full length as well if bucks keep playing well. i think indiana are a tougher team this year, and should take care of celtics. two-man army of celts take too many 3-pointers.. and one-man-orlando -magic can't expect to win a series like the way they played last night. philly looks the strongest so far in the east. hornets are unlucky to have injury problems...
Rusty Posted on 25-Apr-03 10:31 AM

"Yo Yo, whatup Kenny? whatup Charles, we now 2-1," said KG.... Even though the game was totally unfair because of the needless calls *against the T-Wolves* , they proved that they have caliber to eliminate defending champs..the lakers. 4 freakin unecessary calls by referee, which were explicitly visible. The game should never have gone to the over-time if Kobe didn't have 4 point play at the end of 4th quarter. It was not faul at all... I was really pissed off when Robert Horry fallaciously tumbled on the floor, causing Garnet's foul out.

Extremely good play by Garnet and Hudson...Bravo!!!!!!!
khimu Posted on 25-Apr-03 10:38 AM

i am not talking anymore
seems like its over for me
AX Posted on 25-Apr-03 10:44 AM

I was one of them who thought defending champ LAKERS will sweep the series. Wolves proved me and many others wrong. Did not get to watch the game, that could be the reason, Wolves won. Won't be watching any game of that series from now on. Would love to see Lakers beaten. If that's the case my Western confrence pick SPURS will have easy time to reach the Western conference championship game.

yo yo LAKERS fans where are ya hiding now???
Rusty Posted on 25-Apr-03 10:51 AM

AX
If the Lakers lost, I would now put the TWolves for the champianship....
You should have seen the game last night; I was up till 2:30am.
Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 25-Apr-03 11:56 AM

I told you guys that Twolves gonna win. Buy you never listened me. Same thing will happen with SPURS. See tonight..............

Finally the MAVS & TWOLVES in western Final, heeeeeeeeeee
AX Posted on 25-Apr-03 12:22 PM

I thought this SHIVA PARVATI was MAVS fan. Why he rooting for Wolves now? wondering he does not want to see LAKERS and MAVS. We all know the MAVS record with Lakers

:-)
DWI Posted on 25-Apr-03 12:25 PM

Please, calm down. There is no way Lakers are gonna be out in the first round 2-1 means nothing for the defending champ, they were in this situation last year too. Lakers are going to advance in the first round and hopefully will fall off in the second round. Shiva Shiva, shiva shiva ke bhaneko, Mavs & Twolves? No freaking way.
Rusty, T'wolves for the championship? Bhayena ni baba.
Ax, yeah Spurs have a better chance now, so do Kings.
AX Posted on 25-Apr-03 12:39 PM

my bad, it meant to be SHIVA SHIVA
Rusty Posted on 25-Apr-03 12:57 PM

DWI,
Sorry hai, did u watch the game last night? Did you see the intensity the TWolves had? They deserved that win even though they received too many unfair calls from referee.. I am not Wolves fan, but I won't be surprised to see them in Final. If they win next game, lakers are almost out
Rusty Posted on 25-Apr-03 12:58 PM

I want to see Lakers eliminated
Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 25-Apr-03 02:20 PM

AX,
I am a hardcore MAVS fan. I am just recognizing the hardwork TWOLVES has putting in the court. I have a strong feeling that the era has gone for Lakers.
Rusty, welcome to the laker elimination club. DWI, do you think Spurs gonna win in the home court of Sun? No way...............
AX Posted on 25-Apr-03 04:58 PM

As I thought, Amare Stoudamire of Suns won the NBA Rookie of the Year award. His stats are better than the now superstars KG, TMAC and Kobes as rookies. He averaged 13.8 points per game and 8.8 rebounds (nba.com). He will get better as he grows up.

sorry YAO fans

What do you guys say about players jumping straight to the NBA from high school?
DWI Posted on 25-Apr-03 05:26 PM

Ax, I too thought Stoudomire had a good chance but was almost certain Yao would take the honor. The deserving took the prize. Can you believe Stoudomire was way behind Nene Hillario in the draft pick. But don't blame it on the Gm's as Stoudomire only wanted to practice in Phoenix court.

Rusty, I also will join that club, after the first round. U're right, I didn't watch that game; so I couldn't follow the sentiments. But I would still believe Lakers will advance even if they loose another game and go 1-3. But as I said, Lakers will fall off in the second round.

Shiva, hell yeah. Spurs can easily win in Sun's home court. May be next year, it would be tougher as Stoudomire progesses.
thepeacekeeper Posted on 25-Apr-03 05:32 PM

If players feel like playing in the NBA straight after high school, its their choice. I don't even see the need for any debate. Nobody mentions anything about tennis pros who play the sport full time since they're 14-15 (especially women) or all these 16-17 year olds who play ice-hockey full time and then jump to the AHL and NHL. Why don't they need to go to college? Maybe its because they're white?
NepaliThito Posted on 26-Apr-03 12:40 PM

Hey Guys

I do agree Twolves really deserved last game win. But its basketball and i hope you guys still remember last year's western conference final. Its not over yet for the LAKERS ERA. If KOBE can take the team into OT in remaining 17 seconds with 5 points then HE can make a difference for the TWOLVES. But i do agree TWOLVES are putting their whole hearted effort on every game. But lets wait and see what happens tomorrow.

KOBE will do it Tomorrow.....

KOBE the GREAT.

DWI Posted on 27-Apr-03 12:23 PM

Can't believe I am rooting for Lakers today. Damn Oys.
Lakers will hopefully win, but even if they loose, I am not worried. They will win this series and fall off against Spurs in next round. Kings will oust Mavs... repeat...Roger.
khimu Posted on 27-Apr-03 03:13 PM

ya! they did it DWI
kobe(MVP)

Rusty Posted on 28-Apr-03 08:05 AM

--Shaq finally found his rhythm. He played great yesterday. But, I still wanted to see hungry Wolves wining...

--TMac and Magic had impressive win, beating #1 seed:) Now, I believe that TMac is true MVP candidate. However, he has to try his best to shun the same criticism that KG had in previous year, for failing to creep his team to the second round.

--Celtics almost brinking the Pacers [ I couldn't believe this one ]. 3-pointer strategy helping the Celts so far. Surprisingly, they are playing good defense.

-- Spurs...k bhannu????? Do they really have champianship caliber?
Rusty Posted on 28-Apr-03 08:07 AM

YB,
yeah Minnesota cheerleaders are also HOT HOT HOT...OOh la la!! Mid-west ko blonde haro.. You should check them out too...:P
AX Posted on 28-Apr-03 08:48 AM

did not get to see Lakers vs Wolves.

just wondering how many shots did KOBE take?
Rusty Posted on 28-Apr-03 08:52 AM

Kobe was --7 for 25 FGMA!!!! Total 32.
AX Posted on 28-Apr-03 09:39 AM

Rusty, I am sure you would have gone 8 for 25.
Rusty Posted on 28-Apr-03 10:16 AM

I can go 15 for 30...for sure.
yOuNgBlOoDz Posted on 28-Apr-03 04:34 PM

this year's NBA playoff's takin different mode then people had anticipated..

quite interestings.. conference's best record teams r struggling with the 8th spot team

yb
Rusty Posted on 29-Apr-03 05:06 AM

Young,
I am 100% positive that Magic would eliminate #1 Detroits....
Rusty Posted on 29-Apr-03 10:05 PM

Great win for the Lakers... Kobe still underneath the critics--KG, overly paid NBA player, can't take his team to the next level. This is really tupsy-turvy play-offs. No team got swept!! My hunch--the lakers will repeat back-to-back title....

I really wanted Celts win, but they couldn't score in over-time. Shame on you Paul Pierce, and your 3-pointers strategy
Rusty Posted on 29-Apr-03 10:11 PM

Kobe still underneath the critics-- correction - KG still underneath the critics
DWI Posted on 30-Apr-03 07:34 AM

Based on Lakers and T'wolves game, it seems that Laker is definately worse than last year and T'wolves are far better than last year's T'wolves. Troy Hudson gave that extra hand which is very necessary, when Szerbiak couldn't pull up. But a sleeping Lakers is still better than a T'wolves on a speedo.

As I said, Suns need a year or two to prove themselves as championship caliber team. Spurs are beating Suns with a good margin and Greg Poppovich is named coach of the year Would be fun to watch Spurs beating Lakers.

When are they gonna announce MVP? T'mac with lotsa mayonese please.
NepaliThito Posted on 30-Apr-03 03:30 PM

Hi All

Once Again KOBE showed the world that he is the MVP. What a win for Lakers on the road. 30 points deficit..... IS not this great and start for the IV in a row.

Lakers really played well last night. Man KOBE was quite for the first half but i am really impressed by the team contribution of LAKERS last night. It finally happened,i mean team contribution did take place for the first time. FISHER was great yesterd so was george and horry. And SHAQ has got the rhythem back. It not that great for the CHAMPS.

SPURS get ready for the loss that you didnot feel during the regular season. Now the CHAMPS are in their RYTHEM and rest we can see..... (No offense for the SPURS fan)

TMac is doing good so is IVE but MVP goes to KOBE.....

Good Luck Pistons, Hornets, Jazz ( kick the kings azz) and blazers (show mav dirk is nothing)

No offense to anybody. ok dude.

Enjoy tonights game.

yoUnGbLooDZ Posted on 30-Apr-03 06:26 PM

yb
yoUnGbLooDZ Posted on 30-Apr-03 06:30 PM

NEPALI thito.. kobe needs another year to be the MVP.. reallly.. i ain't saying that because i hate lakers.. back in those dayz.. i used to love lakers.. lets say until they won the first championship.. he truely is a player with skills n all.. but know wut.. u give MVP to those.. who carry the whole freakin team in their own hands.. sumone like Tmac .. or say KG.. or even Tim duncan .. those r the one who deserves MVP..

TD is MVP. Curious to see tonight's game...Lakers Vs Wolves:)
gorato Posted on 01-May-03 11:30 AM

Go Wolves Go.........Go Garnett!

Wolves should win tonight's game anyhow.
Rusty Posted on 01-May-03 11:51 AM

This play-offs series being very interesting.. No teams got swept. Only one team eliminated from the first round is the Jazz.. Portland really blazed over the Mavs last night, forcing game 6?? what's goin on...
AX Posted on 01-May-03 12:19 PM

I am still going with
Magic, Nets, 76ers, Pacers in the East
and
Spurs, Kings, Mavs and Lakers in the West
narendra Posted on 01-May-03 04:04 PM

MAVS still a long shot from learning wat defense is all about
SPURS Tony Parker and T. Dunc not enough
KINGS unlucky one
MAGIC one man 'T.MAC gic team
SIXERS my main man 'AI' period
PACERS I would be surprised if they make it to the next round

my prediction NETS Vs. LAKERS for the championship and Laker in 6. KG the man but not against this time with the mighty MDE and I, Me and Myself KOBE.
Rusty Posted on 01-May-03 08:10 PM

How about Boston Celtics will win the 17th champianship:P ehehe!! if their 3 pointers get lucky...lol
Anyways, AX your prediction about the Celts came out wrong. Celts quietly made to the semifinal. Let's see if the Lakers will eliminate the Wolves...

Narendra, you might be right... Final will be Lakers Vs Celts
yOuNgBlOoDz Posted on 01-May-03 09:30 PM

pacers, jazz, milwaukee and suns. went fo fishin.....

DWI Posted on 03-May-03 07:00 AM

Tim Duncan wins the league MVP

After all, most of the Sajhawasis are right, even though I wasn't. I thought it takes more to repeat the MVP title; only the best of the best (like MJ, Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russel, Kareem, Moses Malone, Magic and Bird) have done the honor. I guess Tim's name will be taken in the same sentence with them now; no complains from my side. Tim is one of the most admired class act (following the footsteps of Robinson) and a deservant candidate. Hope he will take the Spurs to the championship, or else I still have Kings to root for.
RockOn Posted on 03-May-03 11:22 AM

For the Love of the Game.
There is no question that this years playoff is very exciting and surprising. Look at some of the players who are scoring 40s. Damn! I wish everybody can play like that. Shaq and Kobe should be broken up. They should not be in the same team. We need some other team to win the championship.
NepaliThito Posted on 04-May-03 12:15 PM

T Mac's time is gone. What a game for Pistons after all No1 in eastern conference proved they are No1.

Bye bye T Mac, see you next season. I wish Blazers also does the same with MAVS, (I would love to see Mavs getting eliminated)

And now the MVP is the KOBE. Just dieing to see SPURS getting sweeped out. Can wait to see LAKERS Vs SPURS tomorrow. KOBE show the WORLD you are the MVP.

no offense guys

Rusty Posted on 04-May-03 06:58 PM

Yeah..congrats to MVP TD:))

Mavs got lucky today. I wouldn't be surprised if they had lost.. They will lose in the second round-- 4-1. At least they won't get swept this season. I really wanted the Magic to win the series. Watch this Gooden next season.
Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 05-May-03 09:25 AM

Mav hasn't lost consecutive 3 game in this season. So please don't think to eliminate MAVS so easily. They are coming back, and they are going to come STRONG.

Damn ya'll. How can u even like lakers. Spurs will kill lakers this time. And, i don't know how come ya'll don't like Maverics who has the most international players. Anyways, just wanna tell u guys that juast by watching NBA for couple of years don't think u know everything about NBA. Those people who like lakers, who is not from LA,... ya'll should get a life .
NepaliThito Posted on 07-May-03 12:56 PM

Guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am back again with the pregame analysis. Analysis is simple LAKERS the BEST. SPURS sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do i need to mention anything else. Did you guys see the extraordinary DUNK of KOBE that was awesome.

Lets see what will KOBE show tonights. KOBE KOBE KOBE

Tonight KOBE will kick unfairly made MVP TD's azz.

I will be back with post game analysis, later after the game.

takecare.
Rusty Posted on 07-May-03 01:21 PM

Ubiquitous,
Wass up yo?

>>Damn ya'll. How can u even like lakers.
-- We all are NOT Lakers fan...

>>Spurs will kill lakers this time.
-- That's your hope and so do I... I really don't care whoever wins, but I wish for the Lakers' elimination....But Not all have the same support. The Spurs seems to be little challenging team for the Lakers, but let's see how long Spurs can keep their rhythm. They really need to stop Shaq, Kobe is not a problem. Shaq won't be faul out every night, with 3:45 min left on the clock. That night, Spurs got lucky and D Robinson played his average game..... Nice input from that rookie from Argentina.. ...

>>i don't know how come ya'll don't like Maverics who has the most international players.
-- They still need to wait two more years, or till Lakers and Kings decline.... And we don't have to like the team, which has the most international players...

>>just wanna tell u guys that juast by watching NBA for couple of years don't think u know everything about NBA.
--what do u wanna know about NBA? You want to hear the history since the establishment of NBA?? Most of the guys who particiapte in this forum are vivid and they have good vision and analysis... So stop that attitude:)

>>Those people who like lakers, who is not from LA,... ya'll should get a life .
-- How are we suppoed to get a life? I live in Celtics territory and I support New York Knicks till death...:) What can you do about it??

ubiquitous Posted on 08-May-03 07:42 AM

Hey Rusty (wise ass),
Just by givin these views on each line doesn't say anything about how good u know about NBA or lemme say Basketball. U think u know a lot ... just knowing Larry bird, Micheal Jordon, Majic Jhonson, Slyde Drexler...etc doesn't mean u know a lot about its history. And I didn't mean to say that to all.. its just i get so annoyed by some people who doesn't know a shit and still writes those whcky statements. But, i really don't think they are so vivid and have good vison of analysis as u said... just look the the things they say. And for the international team like Maverics i know u don't have to like it but at least appreciate those players who came all the way from different countries where basketball is not their main sport. And you loving the Knicks... i don't care.. just annoyed by the people still favoring the team like lakers who already won so many times. It's like .. the only players they know is Shaq and Kobe.. that's it.. then they say " Oh! lakers the best." They don't even have any clue what other teams are like.. they don't even know any player from other teams.
By the way to all those Lakers fan: Ya'll must have seen the game yesterday... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... yeah what a game. Wow! Lakers are the best... my ass. They lost so bad.. damn! and u think this team will be going to the final. All i have to say is "PRAY".. cause they aint gettin any luck nomore.

Enjoyed Lakers and Spurs game last nite :)

Lakers fans, where you hiding???
DWI Posted on 08-May-03 07:55 AM

Ubiquitos, Hamro point guard lai testo bhanna bhayena ni.

As far as understanding a game is concerned; cut the hack. Nobody is a sports analyst here and I believe we are writing within the threshold of knowledge we have about the game; which I think is fairly good. Even an experienced analyst like Bill Walton won't be able to give a fair analysis all the time (he doesn't even give it most of the time, dork).
Besides, everybody can voice their opinion here, be it those who have seen the stars only at the backpage of their local newspaper or those who have interned as scouting assistants.

As far as Lakers are concerned I can understand what you mean. But did you realize if you scroll this segment up, most of the postings were not for Lakers. You know, the lakers fans have that habit of only showing up when their team wins. Some fans.

DWI Posted on 08-May-03 07:58 AM

Damn Wizards!!! that's how they pay MJ.

MJ could've played for any other team, but for the sake of raising the appretiation for wizards, he took the vet. minimum and stuck to Wizards. I didn't agree with each of his moves of coaching the players on the court and his tenure might have been bad for the growth of the team players (specially Kwame), but it sure was a financial boon for the franchise. They couldn't even dream of pushing for playoffs if MJ wasn't around. And now the president kicks MJ out without even telling him.

I wish MJ was playing for Knicks. Few fans might have booed occasionally, but he would have the nicest farewell ever.
Rusty, heard of Andre Miller trade to Knicks for Charlie Ward, Milos Vujanec and 2 million?
Rusty Posted on 08-May-03 08:43 AM

Ubitiquitous (dim-witted gentleman:))
Yes, I was only defying, for what you've whacked in your remarks. Yes, if somebody disgraces his dull attitude, I tend to retaliate like that. Yes, I know NOTHING about NBA and my remarks maynot make any sense to your wishy-washy brain; however, as a participant of this thread, I must speak up-- with great confidence when I hear appaling statements like yours.

In addition to DWI's answer, I wanna add--
we are neither any sports writter, nor any sports analyst; we just try to give our opinion about teams and players... we agree or disagree and comment on each other. You should learn to agree or disagree on particular statements, rather than blabbering Futilely. Read all comments properly and be able to point the person you don't agree with, and comment on wherever you are not pleased.

As far as the history concerned, I can go beyond your list... If not enough, I can still do research.
Rusty Posted on 08-May-03 08:56 AM

DWI and others,
it's very nice if Knicks gets Andre Miller with that cap...

I have to ask you this question. Yesterday, while watching the game, my friend suddenly raised a interesting question-- how do they generate the money to pay all these players? 1. Just by ticket sold 2. fund endowed by other organizations, who are related to sports entertainment ...
AX Posted on 08-May-03 09:17 AM

I am not surprised Abe Polin(?) dumped MJ as President of Wizards. He may be the greatest player ever to play the game of basketball, but he cannot do anything he wants even if as a part owner. I don't think he fits well as President of the team. He overhauled the Wizards since he took the office. It's been rare for great basketball players to do a great job as a coach or manager (besides Jerry West)

His worst decision could be drafting the high school kid named Kwame Brown as No1overall pick in the 2001 draft. He signed role players like Larry Hughes, Byron Russell, Charles Oakley, Tyronn Lue, and Laettner, who could not succeed in the presence of MJ. Trading Hamilton to supposed superstar Jerry Stackhouse did not work either. Stackman said the team would be better without MJ, so go figure.

I am sure Wizards owner was ticked about the MJ's secret meeting with new expansion team owner Robert Johnson. But I won't be surprised if he joins the new expansion team as a part owner.
AX Posted on 08-May-03 09:39 AM

I thought Andre Miller is a free agent. Anyhow, I would get Andre Miller caliber anytime to unknown Yugoslav and Jew Basher Charlie Ward anytime. It's hard to find true point guard who wants to pass more.

Rusty, about generating the money:
1. huge TV deal
2. ticket sales
3. merchandising & licensing
DWI Posted on 08-May-03 10:39 AM

I second Ax's point on Wizards and financial management (TV deal, tickets etc).

My only complaint to Wizards is that this could have been done in a much better way. MJ seems to be furious that he wasn't notified about any progress and even the final verdict, direct from the management. About Wizard's trading decisions, the results are indicative that they failed badly even with a big no.1 draft option. When a kid plays 10 times better than a his highschool teammates, these scouts go crazy on him. But they often disregard the fact that NBA is 100 times tougher (if not better) than those highschool leagues. Hope (& know) LeBron James is not another fluke like that. Besides, Kwame has now few more years to grow, without Jordan's shadow.

That unkown Yougoslav (Vujanic), who opted not to play for knicks next year, is really a talented kid. I think he averages above 24 ppg as a Point Guard. The best thing is his knowledge of the game and his peripheric view of the low post. He would be a good addition to a knicks team which hasn't seen a decent point guard in a decade or two (John Starks? Please!). But his uncertainty is better suited for a viable trade.

Rusty, AX and Knicks fan...the biggest day for us is the Draft day(not the final) which is coming soon. But with possible 9th pick, can we expect a lot?

A Shout out From A Lakerian!!!
It wasn't much an effort for the Lakers to make it to the playoffs........A great comeback after Shaq stood up for the game in the regular season.........The first round of the playoffs ended......With a vehement strategy the Lakers beat the Wolves....Now it's all Spurs that holds Lakers for the title...
The first two games was a huge loss for the Lakers...... Shoot..!! I just couldn't kick my TV after watching the Lakers play......but I resisted
Since the loss of Lakers....I've been having my period (look for the symptoms) and that gives me a nervous breakdown at times...
I see fire in the Spurs.......It was one helluva game...!! I hope the Lakers will be able to resist their intensity..!!! The 3 in a ROW Champions.....Lakers should probably understand that " Every Day has it's Day"
I live with the Celtics......I praise the Sacrementos.....I envy the Blazers....and lastly I GO FORRRRRRRRRRR THE LAKEEEEEEEEEERS....

Note : Duncan won the MVP........He plays great but I wouldn't have voted him for the MVP in any ways....

TD was the right choice for the MVP and hope he wins many more. Where he may end up next year? I would love to see him in MAGICS uniform. What do ya say ppl?

GUY would have voted Lakers sidekick KOBE.

wait couple years, he will get his turn :)
AX Posted on 08-May-03 01:07 PM

DWI, I would rather have one Andre Miller than three point guards (Ward, Eisley, and new Yugoslav). We never know how that Yugoslav is going to play in NBA. NBA is much more physical than the European one. Nowitzkis and Pejas are great all star caliber players but that does imply that whoever comes from Europe is going to be a great player.

I don't think John Starks has not played as Point Guard often. He is more of a shooting guard. Since I started to watch NBA, I have not seen quality PG in Knicks uniform. I heard Mark Jackson was good in his first stint with Knicks. He won the Rookie Player of the year while playing for them. Rod Strickland, Doc Rivers, Derek Harper, and Chris Childs followed.

DWI, I don't think the Knicks Management even knows what they want. There are many voids to fill. PG, SF, Center. Trade Spree and get a better Center, Trade one of the PG with so-so PF/C (Othella, Spoon, Doleac, Knight) and Ward with new Yugoslav kid for Andre Miller, then Knicks may have better chances next year. I don't think there are that many great players in this years draft.

Trade everybody if you need to get better players. New Yorkers deserve a better basketball team.

Heres what Id like to see:

PG: Andre Miller or The Glove
SG: Allan Houston
SF: Nailon(offense)/Anderson(defense)
PF: Antonio(undtradable coz of injury)/Kurt Thomas
C: Dale Davis? Candy Man? there are many quality Centers available in free agencies that could be signed/ traded and that might just do the trick
DWI Posted on 08-May-03 02:04 PM

The Knicks aren't trading anybody to move up the draft pick, neither they are giving away their draft pick. Ax, I like that lineup, specially on Small Forward position. That should help us shed off Spree and free some cash and when the game is on the line, we can shuffle these players as you said, Nailon while on attack mode and Anderson while protecting the lead (or on defensive plays). I like PG and PF positions too and Allan Houston is a long time fixture on Shooting Guard.

But even after freeing up so much of money in Point Guard + Spree trade (if we find any traders), we will still won't be able to get a quality Center along with Andre Miller. And that too with Dolan+Layden tandem.
More than the management, it's the ownership that sucks (the business part of Cablevision is a good example..remember all the financial turmoil and the recent fight with YES network?)

Yeah, Mark Jackson (X), was good in his first year; but not exceptionally good. But he was atleast the better of the point guard bunch that followed( we have Heisman winner as a point guard, funny). I heard he was one of the best players to come out of St. Johns since that time.

If we can have that lineup, Ax, we can be the force of the east. Gooo. H20.
DWI Posted on 08-May-03 02:26 PM

I had said, "You know, the lakers fans have that habit of only showing up when their team wins. Some fans. "

GUY, I am glad somebody proved me wrong.

The Lakers lineup is almost the same as last year and the only noticeable addition to the teams we are picking is the Argentine Rookie to the Spurs and slight change of plays for the Sac Kings. Now, I am not saying Lakers should loose because they are far poor compared to the last season and that the other teams are far better.
Following are the reasons why Lakers shouldn't advance beyond the Western Conference Semifinals:

1. Lakers are a little tarnished team now. Shaq has regained his ground and Kobe is actually playing better but the supporting cast are playing like they have heavy legs. But as I said earlier this is not the big reason why they should loose. Read on..

2. Teams completely know the Lakers move and counter plays to crash them. Hack-a-Shaq against the big guy didn't work and still today nobody can stop shaq. You don't want to excite Kobe, he is unstoppable. Teams (Spurs, Kings & even Mavs) are running plays that force Lakers to distribute the ball and break their defense.

3. Teams like Spurs and Kings are more experienced with their foundation lineup. All that lineup dreams is beating the Lakers. Motivation is a big factor in NBA (or any other games).

4. Lakers aren't that invincible team to begin with. Not everybody in Lakers are Shaq. They have weakness. Lakers deserved the win last year, but I thought Portland and Kings could have also won the game equally. The Zen master's (Jackson) aura hadn't fade and their momentum was up all the year, even though there was disagreement at times between Shaq, Kobe and Phil Jackson. You know when a baseball team starts winning those long streaks (like Kansas City Royals & even Yankees), it's not that they always deserve to win all those games. Momentum and Luck are a big factor.

5. Spurs and Kings are extremely talented teams. Spurs plays a very disciplined game and Kings have that long belt full of different caliber guns. They (the latter) can thrash any defense and have plenty of smart people (like Peja and Divac). I don't like the fact that Sac's biggest player is Webber (can't trust him in a big game), but they have other options with Bobby Jackson, Doug Christie, Peja & Pollard.

Lakers will always be a championship team as long as Kobe and Shaq are there. But like Yankees, Manchester United and Red Wings (or Devils) couldn't win back-to-back-to-back-to-back, Lakers have to rest too.

I don't think Spurs will sweep, but don't expect much from Lakers.
oys_chill Posted on 08-May-03 02:42 PM

oh well,

I didn't get to watch the game..so u know why lakers are losing !! ;)

anyway, to be honest, I had doubts about lakers not that they are a bad team, cause while other teams are adding valuable assets in draft and off season, Lakers continued to stick with the same old line up. NO fresh legs, no one to give them energy from the bench. I believed George would have made the difference at some point in the playoffs.. With him gone, they have to rely on kobe for offense, defense, fast break, energy, motivation.........Shaq has lost his URGE after the minnesota series...but I think Kobe cannot do it all by himself. N its little too late to go deep into the bench, which really do not have any class players to start with. I knew they needed a genuine third scorer/sleeper like previous years......

and like i said before..lakers have won it three in a row..whether they had MVP or NOT..and they don't need to prove to anyone ........their INVINCIBILTY reigns just reading this thread where so many anti lakers fans have prospered with lakers going on the downside. That itself speaks of the Lakers invincibilty..and there are those who say its not fair for lakers to have kobe and shaq.......now that's another point to ponder...

phewww! fan support napugya ho lakers lai.......i wish i could watch their game..when i am updating on the net.AX gives me the bad news :S ..anyways........i would like to see Kidd run for championship.....head with nets, heart (always) with Lakers!
krishna Posted on 08-May-03 03:10 PM

DWI ko analysis j bhayeni ghachhi ko lagyo malai......

Guys, I have not been following this thread so please donot consider me a whackkooo....I am just trying to find out where Mavs stand?? Mr. Nash and Dirk Nowiski (kya ho spelling yo moro ko) are my two fav. players. Specially point guard Nash, fuchhe moro dyang ki dyang 3 point thataucha....
Oys bro, I hate lakers man, specially after they beat Twolves..I was hoping KG would get the MVP...why they give it to Tim Duncan again, is a bit of a surprise to me..I like KG and wolves...but they are doing well in the MN wild game i.e the hockey..so that is compensating MN fans but there was a huge disappointment when they lost against Lakers...it was a good close game nevertheless......

Rusty dai kata ho??

Hi frens,
Glad to be a part of this thread finally. Not that i didnt show up because lakers are loosing(someone said that earlier) but i see work and final week of the semester more important. Anyway i have always been updating this thread, atleast once a day, and its nice to see things are shaping up.
Last nite games were a treat and tonight's game would be better.
Lakers have found themselves in an unfamiliar situation. No! down by 2 is not what i am talking about. For the first time in shaq & kobe age, lakers are finding themselves a little short in offense! Credit goes for spurs for their brave move not to double both shaq and kobe for most of the time leaving no other lakers easy look. And well most of them were not doing good even if they had an open look untill things looked to change around when fisher got his touch back during the series against T'wolves. Lakers will definately miss much wanted defense of fox and athleticism of george especially when horry has completely lost his touch on basket.
On spurs part everyone is doing great job. Very impressed with ginobli's performance. He is making other lakers player tooo young and unaggressive.

But i see things changing around in LA tonight.
YES!
Go lakers! Go!
khimu Posted on 09-May-03 10:09 PM

lakers are coming back
DWI Posted on 10-May-03 07:05 AM

Hope Lakers fans are excited. No, seriously.
Good to see some positive inputs from Lakers. Otherwise the game would taste stale even when served fresh.
Too bad Chris Webber went down, what did I say? Don't count him in big games.
Two of the big men in NBA are up for grab, Karl Malone and Alnozo Mourning. Too bad, their value has significantly diminished at this point. Any team interested?

Shiva Shiva, Kudos for Mavs. Hope they can repeat the feat on defensive end too. With 5 players each capable of shooting 20 points a game, it was inevitable.
Krishna ji, thanks.
AX Posted on 10-May-03 10:47 AM

Did not watch the game, great win for Lakers. if they have not wont he game, they would havebeen first to be swept after winning three titles in a row.

Kobe nos seems impressive. he does not have to shoot 30 times for Lakers to win. I hope he realizes that now. Shaq almost had triple double

DWI, here's the list for the big men available that i know of beside Karl Malone and Zo.

Juwan Howard
Michael Olakawondi
Dale Davis
Elton Brand
Tim Duncan
P J Brown

DWI Posted on 14-May-03 05:58 AM

Spurs are winning and should win. But that guy, Horry, gave me a huge chill last night
when he took the last 3 (couldn't settle for 2?). It was quite a relief to see the ball
roll out of the basket.

Spurs have to win the next game, else they will loose the home court advantage. Which has been the determining factor in this series.

But the Lakers deserve a big ovation too. They know how to stick things together and dig dipper when it matters. I still believe they won't goto the NBA finals, but they sure are a championship team. You can't stop O'neal & restrain Kobe. Kudos.

Ax, no doubt. Hope we can have one big man from the group (Would you take PJ Brown as a big man?). But I was referring to those valuable big men whose value is significantly diminished in recent years.
AX Posted on 14-May-03 07:10 AM

       GO
SPURS GO!!!
GUY Posted on 14-May-03 10:33 AM

Last night's Laker's game with the Spurs was a blast......The overwhelmed Lakers couldn't play safe with a 2 point game and went on with Horry's 3 pointer which led to a major loss... That wasn't a good call. I hope Phil Jackson knows the game he works on...
I surely want the Lakers to win.....They haven't played great with the Spurs, but I hope something gets the vibe going.....Kobe and Shaq has to do it again!!!
DWI Posted on 14-May-03 11:27 AM

>> Horry's 3 pointer which led to a major loss... That wasn't a good call. I hope Phil Jackson knows the game he works on...

Phil sure knows what he is doing and how he draws the plays. If the game had gone overtime, with all the momentum and homecourt advantage, Spurs had greater chance of closing the game with a win. Horry has been a big time cluth player and last year's playoffs 3's are enough to prove it. With Kobe & Shaq on the team, Spurs can't afford to double team Horry and thus the plan was conceived. Too bad, a good plan doesn't always work. However, a good team should never come to a last possession points.
DWI Posted on 14-May-03 11:28 AM

cluth=clutch
k_loaded Posted on 14-May-03 12:28 PM

How many times do we see horry miss a open 3-pointer, like he did last time, especially on clutch situation. But he missed it this time. Baad for the lakers. But man, this is one advantage of being a laker fan. They will keep you alive until clock strike 0.00 in the fourth quater. Great game.
As i had said earlier spurs would be the toughest opponent for the lakers. Why? They do the best in the league slowing down shaq in offense and they havent let kobe have easy time. But the way lakers SIDEKICK has adjusted in last three games, its a class play. And lakers are now in the same position as they were last year.
So we're going back to LA.
And some observation from these series...
-homecourt advantage has never been so important.
-team with higher freethrow attempts has won in all the games.
-role player are the key, no more just shaq&kobe or duncan.
Lakers have the homecourt and home crowd, kobe hopefully is gonna drive to the basket more often and role player of lakers are more confident in staples center.
We sure be going back to san antinio for game 7.
yes!
Go LAKERS Go!

Hi All,

One down (LAKERS).

One to go...

BEAT MAVS
Rusty Posted on 16-May-03 08:16 AM

Well, in my opinion, the NBA fianle is over.... I felt like last night was the last day of NBA final. Spurs won the title, TD again final MVP :-)

Great performance by the Spurs. MVP TD really gave his teammates confidence and made them space to shoot the ball. Tony parker played very well... my hats off for the lakers, for their unsuccessful effort to win 4th back-to-back title.

If the Kings ever reach to the final, If CWebber comes back, then Spurs will have little difficulty to win the western title because the Knigs, unlike Mavs, are physical team and they have defenders like DChristie and sharp shooters like PejaS. They really need to work on fouling out Divac...

Go Spurs go....
AX Posted on 16-May-03 08:41 AM

huhu

whatta joy. SPURS finally won. It seems they will win the championship. It would great great way to say bye to one of the finest gentleman in NBA.

May be Lakers need to add another superpower player with Shaq and Kobe to win another championship.
gorato Posted on 16-May-03 08:50 AM

I was not in favour of Lakers but could not see Kobe crying.....Poor Lakers!
Anyway, some body has to move on....and it will be Spurs if they play the game like yesterday. Strong support for Mavs now....it will be excited game to watch Mavs Vs. Spurs from the west bound.
Still Cross my fingers for Sixers. Let's see tonight's game. But I have feeling that Detroit will take over Philadelphia. But no one can beat Nets from the east.

Rusty Posted on 16-May-03 08:52 AM

How about Karl Malone playing for the lakers as Power Forward?

Can You believe, the Lakers hadn't lost the play-offs series since 99-00... The Spurs had swept the lakers in 98-99 play-offs, when they won the title against the Knicks:( Gosh...time just passed by..so sweftly...
DWI Posted on 16-May-03 09:48 AM

A bleated Congratulations to Knicks for sweeping the future NBA champions in their regular season.

It sure paid me about 30 bucks for betting on the Lakers to win the first series (against T'wolves) & loose the second (against Spurs), but felt real bad to see Fischer & Kobe's tears strolling down . Kobe seems to be really determined for the next year, "I am going to exhaust myself for the next year...."

I like the Karl Malone pick for Lakers, Rusty, & I think it is very possible ( if no other teams offer too much of salary to Malone). But don't count Mavs & Nets out. If Lakers were in Mavs or Nets didn't stand a chance. But with Spurs it's a little bit different game and strategy.
k_loaded Posted on 16-May-03 10:25 PM

Salute to the lakers once again(again and again)as their quest for winning yet another championship came to an end last night. I remember someone say in this thread way ago that every run must come to an end and truely so. Lakers lost! But still this team will (shaq, kobe, fisher, horry and other) go down to the history as one of the all time best. No doubt!
And next year yeah! They are gonna come back as one of the favs to regain the title.

My thoughts on the series???
Better team wins the 7 game series.(as jack nicolson said)
I have been watching duncan ever since he came to the league and i know how a valuable player he is. But this series is his career best and most importantly when it was most needed againts the team everybody feared and so everybody hated.
He has justified he is the true mvp.

Once again, SALUTE TO THE LAKERS.
(And for all who are more happy by the fact that lakers lost than by the fact spurs won,
have fun and party. I know ya all been waiting for this moment for last three years.)

Lakers4ever Posted on 17-May-03 02:41 PM

K_Loaded....very well said bro! I Know lots of people were waitin for this day.We all know how tough this season was for the lakers..early injuries...3-9 start to 50-32 to end the regular season was hell of a journey. They proved that they r the world champions.KOBE's consecutive 40's plus games was the most exciting part of this season.. Lakers r never gonna fade away so as the lakers fan. We still are truely the lakers fan and will stay that way until the end.GOOD Luck for the next year!!!!
ANYWAYS>...i think SPURS will go all da way...they have a great D and they have their superstar MVP tim duncan.GUYS! what bout dallas and the kings...i think dallas will get the big W tonight...it will be very interestin to watch new jersey n the detroit series. NETS will defenitely beat the detroit,i assume..
anyways..good luck to the spurs ..they deserve to win the championship this year...congratulation to the lakers haters...i hope u guys r happy finally after three years..hahaha...hope KOBE is gonna have a great vacation...finally they r gettin one in three years!! what a championship run by the lakers!!! simply remarkable.!! they r goin down in the history book as one of the best ever!!! no doubt about it!

Mavs won the series against KING? What is your thoughts? you are the one who said earlier that King will sweep away MAVS in Playoffs. Any comments? Looks like MAVS is going to win this series against SPURS as well and NBA final too.......
LAKERS4EVER Posted on 18-May-03 04:19 PM

WOW! what a shot by KIDD!!! HE is a suparstar in the east! IF spurs beat the mavs and the nets advance to the final, it will be very intersting to watch!
LEts hope for an upset in the western conf final..it will be very interesting!
Rusty Posted on 18-May-03 08:06 PM

Madhav,
I must say I was wrong. As Jim Jackson said, take Noizki off the Mavs; what's gonna happen to them? Would they ever reach there? Same thing happened to the Kings! Key player CWebber was not there for the kings. Nonetheless, they pushed the series to 7th game, without their super star.

Now, it's all Texas... Last year, it was all CA.

Looks like this thread is dead with Lakers and Kings' defeat. What a game play by Mavs VS Spurs yesterday in SBC center. Go MAVS GO..............................
AX Posted on 20-May-03 07:06 AM

kata kata pugyo yo thread. game pani hernu pa hoina.

Spurs lost last nite :( hope they will bounce bcak next game. KUDOS to MAVS, i did not expect them to be this deep in this year postseason.

the likes of oys ;) and other LAKERS fans, where are ya???
Rusty Posted on 20-May-03 07:15 AM

Shiva Shiva, we still alive, but there's nothing left to write about...LOL.

Mavs got too many FT last night, which lead them to win. I don't think they can do that every night. Spurs need to be tougher mentally. They just CAN'T blow up the game like that, thinking they have beaten the Lakers, and now title is in their hands... Nowitzki shoots the ball from almost any position..so he can't simply be guarded by PF like TD, who is more inside player.... Parker has to be more aggressive.. I hope Rose is fine!!!
DWI Posted on 20-May-03 07:27 AM

I warned you guys.

If it was Lakers emerging as the victor, we wouldn't have to second guess. But Spurs are a different team, not highly dominant but strategically sound. And a good team like the Mavs (& even Nets) can give them a really tough time. Last night's result wasn't a fluke. I won't be surprised to see the Western Conference final going to the 7 game stretch. But if Spurs keep their cool, SPURS WILL EMERGE AS THE WINNER in that 7 game series.

So Ax and Rusty, SPURS ra Nets hoina ta?
Oys is giving Phil Jackson some points to ponder along with Jack Nicklaus.
DWI Posted on 20-May-03 07:30 AM

Guys (specially Knicks fans) don't forget Thursday 8:00 pm, ABC (May 22nd). NBA draft picks.
schedule event: 'Fire Layden' chants along with a lousy draft.
Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 20-May-03 07:32 AM

DWI, I would say MAVS & NET, not SPURS & NET. Heeeee. It is not only free throw,it is how you make free throw RUSTI ji. So you guys are still undeestimating Mavs. Wait & see re kiya.........
DWI Posted on 20-May-03 07:36 AM

Shiva Shiva...Ke bhaneko.. Shiva shiva.
MAVS & Pistons, but both in the going out category.
Rusty Posted on 20-May-03 07:45 AM

Yes, I sitll stick with Spurs...

Final: SPurs Vs Nets

Shiva Shiva, it's not that Spurs didn't have chance for free throws...they had 47 (against 50 of MAvs) attempt, made only half of it.. That was the main cause why the Mavs were able to compete the race...
AX Posted on 20-May-03 08:02 AM

everybody picking NETS :(

I don't like both teams from the EAST. Hopefully PISTONS will win from the East, chances are really slim.

I would not be surprised if the EAST team gets sweep by the higher caliber Western Conference opponents.

we know who will be the no 1 draft choice, but who will be #2? any guess
AX Posted on 20-May-03 08:04 AM

NY deserves better, Fire Layden
DWI Posted on 20-May-03 08:11 AM

Ax to add,

Dolan!!! sell the team to a more deservant owner.

AX Posted on 20-May-03 08:25 AM

Rusty, it's the same damn Cablevision who
does not want NY ppl to watch the Yankees games. Glad I don't use their
services.

DWI Posted on 20-May-03 09:04 AM

This thread is getting funnier with big bold colorful letters. My eyes are still spinning

Rusty, whatever fate Knicks is experiencing right now is in large part due to the owner, Dolan Junior. As Ax said, he is the same guy from Cablevision who cut Yankees games last year (it is back now) & is more arrogant than his successful father.

Her is a big secret, Jeff Van Gundy, with whom Knick's league leading (2nd) defense collapsed, resigned because of James Dolan. You should have seen his interview on YES. Every Knicks fans are chanting Fire Layden because you can't fire Dolan. Layden actually did a good job with Utah Jazz, the solid foundation of Malone & Stockton are in a big part because of him. He has screwed up in many trades, mostly from the pressure of the owner, but he is not as bad as it seems. Knicks being the only NBA franchise in the whole state, any owner could have spent that kind of money (league leading payroll), but no GM could have made those trades as bad as the recent Knicks trades.

Dolan's electronic franchise ' The Wiz' has flopped big time. Cablevision's stock is down low and legue's highest payroll teams Knicks & Rangers couldn't even make the playoffs.

If we cannot hope for a new owner, we can atleast hope the owner loosens his grip on the team and let GM handle it. For that a commanding GM is needed not like Layden (or even Cashman on Yankees). So the first step is to FIRE LAYDEN.

GUYS GUYS GUYS!!!
stop playing like a kid wit bigger fonts...hehe...jk hai.. anyways...umm...i really think MAVS is gonna give the spurs a hard time throughout the series..if mavs keep shooting like they do...there is a good chance to see the upset this year! i would love to see the mavs winning it all da way but i really doubt it...cmon guys..we need to give credits to the mavs...they r young n talented...wish they have a bettter defense ..well..they offense can be th ier defense...they just need to keep scoring ...van exel, nash..dirk..finley...they have to be red hot to win this series...dont understimate the mavs though...they might..who knows!!! SPURS ..they good..they proved it beating the lakers but hey..this is NBA>>>crazy shit can happen...so..I hope the mavs pull the upset!!!
by the way....THE NETS will definetly win the series in the east! i m very sure bout it!i really am.....i just want to ask one simple question to the pistons fan...WHO IS GONNA SCORE?????? ..they r good but not good as the nets...
SO GUYS>>>HOW BOUT the NETS vS MAVS....wow..that would be really sweet....but my heart says...spurs will win in game 6..hhaha..damn! hope they dont!
Rusty Posted on 21-May-03 05:55 AM

DWI, Thanks for the information.

I've not followed Eastern Conference final at all; However, I think the level of their games are more like NCAA standard. How the HELL could pistons become #1?? Of course, the key is Ben Wallance, and the team has become one of the best defensive team in NBA because of him. Even though I hate both teams (Nets and Detroits), I would love to see Detroits in NBA finals. Jason Kidd is awesome, they just can't stop him... and Kmart is putting big show in their last 6 games..damn..

Lakers4ever,
Yes, Mavs will give Spurs hard time, but good team always wins in best of 7... They don't get 50 free throws every night. I honestly won't be panic if the Mavs win.. HOwever, I have put bet on Spurs.

All thrilled for tonight's game.......

I AM HERE ...oieeeeeeeee AX, DWI, YB (MORAAAAAAAAA) and other anti lakers association

***********************

I walked outside the building with a feeling that I could not comprehend myself. The unbelievable had happened. It even showed in kobe's eyes. Outside, darkness had befallen. A group of people had gathered to watch the lunar eclipse. I stared up in the sky for a while. Mighty earth had almost shaded all of the moon. Moon seemed so mellow, yet so bright on its sides. It was being swallowed into this dark shade, yet it was rejoicing, for moon knew more than any of us that its just an eclipse. It had gone through this dark patch quite a few times. It was all but fleeting. The moon would rise again from the shadow and illuminate the darkness earth has to encounter during the nights, and LIKES OF ME SHALL REJOICE AGAIN.

I don't know when I became such a passionate fan, though i try very hard to hide it. After lakers departure, I am still watching games, but it just lacks that extra kick, glamour, fightback, heart, special moments that lakers bring to the floor. honestly, IT IS SOOOOOOOOO DULL to watch nba anymore :S ....but like kobe said, the next season began for me as well right after that eclipse ;) re kya!

DWI Posted on 22-May-03 12:55 PM

Welcome to the loosers club Oys.

I had that feeling coming out of Madison Square Garden, back in 2001 Eastern Conference Playoff round 1 game 5, Knicks vs Raptors. Who can help it?

Just watch the game now. And as I said earlier, Knicks, Cavaliers, Denver and Hits fans, tune to ABC at 8 pm EST for Draft.

Either Cavaliers(highest chance) or Hits(4th highest chance) might win Lebron James who just signed with Nike for 90 million dollars deal.

Rusty,
U r right..best team always wins in sever game series...Last night , Spurs proved it they r the best...but Mavs havent give it up yet...they goin back home and they will be back..hopefully..haha...however...i do think Spurs will get them sooner or later...but i would really like to see the NETS and the MAVS in the final..atleast it will be competitive...if spurs wins, i dont think Nets or the pistons has any shot for the championship...!!! HOW BOUT THE NBA DRAFT TONITEE>>.dont forget to watch it!!!
HEY RUSTY..I THINK KNICKS NEED SOMEONE LIKE LEBRON JAMES...WHAT DO U THINK....
DWI Posted on 23-May-03 04:30 AM

Congratulation to Cleveland Cavaliers, they won the prize. If not the game, LeBron sure brings a lot of worth and trade value. Ofcourse, Cavaliers should be out of their mind to trade him.

Knicks got Maciej lampe, a 7-0 center from Poland. I thought for that pick position, it was a pretty decent choice as the 18 year old has a great future in NBA. His shooting skill is touted flawless (and will improve with Allan Houston). ESPN reports, however, that he is not a good rebounder; I hadn't heard that earlier.

It is a good pick regardless of whether Knicks are gonna keep him or trade him. I am hearing the trade talks for Spree + Lampe + Vujanic already. Any buyers?
DWI Posted on 23-May-03 06:25 AM

Another key point to notice, Pistons have the right for the second pick. They probably will draft Milicic(most probably) or Carmelo Anthony and they will be the perennial team in the east. I would suggest to go for Carmelo for the void created by the departure of Stackhouse. They already have a good solid rebounder(the best) so they don't need too much of height (Milicic).

As for Knicks, again they will get Maciej Lampe...almost certain. Since he doesn't have a very good body to go along with his height, it might be worth while to trade him if we get a good center. But in any event, we should draft him (Lampe). From the grapevines: Milos Vujanic might not, after all, play in Europe (the team rejected him).
Rusty Posted on 23-May-03 01:24 PM

DWI,
Waiting for the Knicks to put on show...next season. Knicks certainly will be a better team next season, with or without that new center.

Regarding LeBron, I don't know why I've a hunch that he's just gonna be an average player, not an extra-ordinary player who can impact on creeping up team record....

Talking about *good* rookies, we haven't seen good rookies for quite a few years, after Francis and Elton Brand nammed rookie of the year. Good in terms of his personal stats. Vince Carter, CWebber, Shaq, Derek Colman, Iverson... these are all rookies who had great stat in their rookie year. But, looking at his HYPE, I don't think LeBron won't be better than those guys. Here, Calvaliers are expecting to go to play-offs with the aid of Lebron... I don't think so. I don't know much about Cavaliars, but they have a good center, who comes from foreign country. ANyways, LeBron will average around 18-20 pints, 4 rebounds, 3 assits...

The good news is MAVS come back in game 5. Western final is not over yet.
Rusty Posted on 28-May-03 11:36 AM

Shiva Shiva,
I didn't know that you're female. hahaha!! You posted female pic under your name..

Anyways, the western conference final is not over yet... Finely did very good job, driving to the hoop mostly.. Their 3-pointers got lucky and they took more rebounds offense and defense both. Let's see what happens in next game if Nowitzki comes back. I wish Spurs would win, but I care less...

DWI, whass up with Van Gundy? Is he going to 76ers?

Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 28-May-03 11:42 AM

Rusty,

Where is my pic? I am not female, I am male.

Van Gundy is the leading conteder of Houston Rockets too.
DWI Posted on 28-May-03 11:47 AM

I know right? Shiva shiva is a girl, Didn't know.

Van Gundy to 76ers? A good probability after Larry Brown is out. I wish we could trade him for Brownk, since we still have him under contract till summer. But Knicks will let him talk to any teams he wants as they don' thave much hold on him( he can talk to the teams after summer).

Rockets are also talking to Van Gundy and Cavaliers are touted as the front runner, I heard. With James and all the fresh legs it would be a good fit, but with Van Gundy's defensive attitude, it might not be a perfect approach for a young team.

One caller once asked on a talk radio show, which player is the better one Kidd or Iverson. Since they play from a different position, I thought it was an incomparable situation. But coming to ponder on it, they actually are alike. AI recorded a 7.4 Assist per game and Kidd is a leading scorer in his team. Both carry the team and play with full heart. What do you guys think? Who is the better one? Or who would you choose if you were to start a new team and could only choose one?
oys_chill Posted on 28-May-03 12:01 PM

Kidd is overwhelming better than AI ..any given day, under any circumstances..simply because he makes a mediocre team into a potential championship team. Iversion is all bout flare, runs hot for a while and turns dead cold. When Kidd is cold, he makes his teammates hot.

Personally, I think Kidd is the most underrated player in the NBA. Duncan leads the MVP stance simply because of his size(rebounding), but Kidd is the true MVP for me. It would be a joy for me (after lakers downfall) to see NJ win it all this time :)

Shiva Shiva!! Posted on 28-May-03 12:04 PM

Oys,
Whoever wins the West, that team will win the NBA. I don't think NBA title goes to east any time soon.

Rusty Posted on 28-May-03 01:08 PM

"Van Gundy's defensive attitude, it might not be a perfect approach for a young team.' Very true. I still think that he will end up in Cavaliars...

I agree with Oys this time.. Even though Iverson has good stats of himself, he hasn't elevated his team to that level where JK has done two consecutive times.. Looking at their games' offensive strategy, I won't be surprised if they give hard time to Spurs/or Mavs..

Shiva Shiva, if you're male, then is that your girl friend when we click on your name... LOLJust kiddin

AX Posted on 28-May-03 01:30 PM

huh this thread back again?

JKIDD is that good??? I better watch NETS from next year if he decides to stay :o)

Why are we discussing these two players??? They don't even play the same position. AI has single handedly taken the team to the playoffs for the last 5 years (?). Whereas, JKIDD has been surrounded by potential stars like KMART and JR. Just to remind you guys, before coming to NETS, he failed miserably in MAVS and SUNS uniforms.

I pick AI for his own court performance minus his off court drama. He is the player I want holding the ball when the game is on the line. Id be curious to see whom 76ers will court as the replacement for the Brown.
kool_dude Posted on 30-May-03 06:39 AM

YB
Rusty Posted on 03-Jun-03 08:28 AM

Are you guys ready for the finals? Don't be surprise if the race ends at 4-3, with the Spurs win.. Well, it's tupsy-turvy tournament; you never know who really wins. Who knows, the Nets can snatch the tile, if the Spurs's offense comes weak.. One thing I noticed in the Spurs, including TD, that they get so nervous-- losing their confidence if the opponent team is about to blow them out in the second or third quarter. They start to throw the ball everywhere, they can't take defensive rebounds, they get many turnovers... damn. They really got lucky on the sixth game that Kerr came off the bench and hit some crunch shots, for the win. What I am saying here is..a team has to be confidence like the former Knicks and the Lakers.. They always start slowly and pick the pace later on.. You never know who wins until the end of last buzzer shot..

However, I still stick with the Spurs coz I really hate the Nets. If Nets are able to put TD down to 18-20 points, somebody else has to come up with great shots. They just can't rely on TD. I am pretty sure, the Nets has become more experience this year, and J Kidd really looking for the title this year. Also, Kmart can't hit open dunks on TD's face. I know both teams can play physical, as both of them got big bodies to pu on the show.. Tony parker is not as versatile as Jkidd for sure... He needs to find ways to stop Kidd and be more aggressive on the offensive end... However, I believe TD will do great job on both ends... Don't let the Nets steal Spurs' home court advantage.....

Go Spurs... Gooooooo
GUY Posted on 03-Jun-03 10:49 AM

I haven't had the chance to read through all the postings.....but looking at the few postings...I somewhat get the flow of this thread...
It has now come...... "WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH...THE TOUGH GETS GOING'....... Finally it's all about theSpurs and the Nets
For me it was all Lakers...until their rivalry against the Spurs....Now that they are down, I'll have to give some shout out for the San Antonio Fans..!!!
Individually I am not carried away by any of the players in the Spurs...but the team work seems to hold me tight... TD, Parker, Ginobli and others have a great team effort....
The NJ Nets should be counted for....after all they've made the Eastern Conference Finals 2 in a row....That says a lot....But as Always..." The West go for the Winners".....It's more a tradition :) I hope the Spurs realize that pretty well....
DWI Posted on 03-Jun-03 11:13 AM

GUY
You're right, you haven't read all the postings yet. Otherwise you would have heard the outcry of few of the Knicks fans too. You would have heard your fellow Laker fans sharing their pain and Mavs fans accepting their fate. As far as Spurs not being a team of individual heroes, well, I couldn't find a better representation of a Sportsman in this league, otherthan Tim Duncan or David Robinson. Would you agree?

You're right about the NETS and how this league has become Western conference dominated Final (after Bulls era). The west will win again. Hope to read more from you Guy.

Go Spurs
DWI Posted on 03-Jun-03 11:18 AM

Rusty, you're right about the Spurs. May be because of their young Point Guard, they are prone to turnovers and fast breaks against their favor. But with a good amount of coaching that has gone in and great players like Duncan and Robinson (even Parker), this team gathers itself up on time and beats the opponent.

As far as Kmart is concern, I think he has grown up to be a really valuable player over the years. As much as I hate Richard Jefferson and Kmart, I think they are a little underrated, because they started shining under J'Kidd.

DWI Posted on 03-Jun-03 11:26 AM

Ax brought a good point about J'kidd not getting all that success with his former teams. He was actually one of the leaders in assists but his persona was confined because his team wasn't exactly a success.

Now J'kidd is thought to be the best point guard and arguably one of the top 5 players. No doubt about that, he did turn the Nets fater 360 degrees. But His timing was equally right.
* Richard Jefferson, K'mart and Kittles are one of the best players to compliment Kidd's playing style. They fit right in into his offensive schemes.

* Kidd came at the time when Jefferson was ripe and ready to show what he has got.
He did.

* K'mart was frustated while playing with Marbury( and even Van Horn). With the frustration gone he shined with a complete set of playmaking aura.

Kidd is one of the most knowledgable player with that stretched peripheral consience all the time. He is one of the best point guard to ever play (a little far from Magic though), but it is not only because of him why the Nets became a perennial team from a lottery bound team. The timing was perfect and the playmakings went smooth. Right time, Right place, Right man.

NOw, Nets are going to be RUSTED..... I didn't watch the game last night. For me, Western Conference was the final. Whever wins from west, they are the champs. It will happen for another couple of years. No doubt, next year, Lakers will resume their dynasty.. I hope Phill Jackson learned from this year. From East, I see good future for Orlando if Hill remains healthy. Gooden will be another star...

DWI,
Is that 26th, our Knicks will pick the draft? Hopefully, McDyess will come back healthy... We will reach to the NBA final in coming season... Yeahhhhhhhhh

SPURS OVER NETS IN 7

I actually think this series will goto a full stretch of 7 games.

Yeah Rusty, mark your calender for June 26. We have 9th & 31st pick. I wish we could trade the latter one, coupled with an existing player, with Chicago's 7th (Chicago are filled with young bloods, so they don't care much for the draft now). But even if we don't trade, we could get a center (listed as Forward I believe ) in Lampe (7'0'') and get a decent point guard (Marcus Hatten, Chris Thomas or Mo Williams) in the lower draft pick.
Let's Go Knicks!!!
oys_chill Posted on 05-Jun-03 11:15 AM

Yesterday was probably the most listless game (esp. from nets) I have seen in a while. Jason Kidd completely lost his running game, too many turnovers (he must be remembering his wife and beating (AX????) or the gentleman (DR) heard my fishing advice and changed his gear to full throttle :P

Whatever the case, I am still surprised at people talking about DUNCAN getting 20+ rebounds. He's the tallest player there with the LONGEST HANDS..what do you expect? Tony Parker to get the rebounds???? well, as far as points are concerned, OK I CONFESS..DUNCAN WAS AWSOME!

Nets need to relax themselves. I think they still have a shot and they need to get their transition game going.........

JKIDD played another fabulous game last nite, and hopefully see similar performances in future. Who says he cant rebound with those lead feet? Who dares question his shooting ability (what baket?)? And nah.. dont even start about those assists, he is the best assist man after the great duos of John Stockton and Magic Johnson. YUP he is the guy who owns the record for triple double, and he almost had another one last nite. He changed the doomed franchise by taking them to the NBA finals 2 years in a row.

Way to go NETS. You got three more games to go and soon you will be history. YO Dikembe take out the BROOM, SPURS need them.

Thanks rusty ji,
that was indeed a very good artical. Couldnt describe Duncan better.

And for championship i would put my money on spurs in 6.

ziggy_l Posted on 08-Jun-03 08:26 PM

Dyam...Nets lost....K. Martin played great...
Rusty Posted on 09-Jun-03 05:36 AM

That was such a *boring* final I ever saw on TV. Thanks god, Tony Parker came alive later on the game. Maybe Spurs or any other good teams play good when they are confronting with good team. Myaaan, what's up with the Spurs. They played so well with the Lakers, now they barely winning with the Nets.

Why was that so many turnovers in the second game? Remember I told u before, if the Spurs are down, they get panic and throw the ball every where and commit so many turnovers... Anyways, they got lucky yesterday. Still can't say what will happen to the Spurs, looking at the way they are playing. The champianship still can come to the East...

Anybody following the hockey?? Interesting.. Mighty Ducks Vs Devils on the game 7th!! Damn.. I hate any teams from NJ.. Go Ducks...gooo....

DWI Posted on 09-Jun-03 07:19 AM

Rusty,
I haven't followd the NHL since the Rangers were eliminated this season. I saw few bits of action on the Devils and Ducks ongoing final series. I don't like their style of play, I'd have better wanted Colorado Avalanche, Penguins (if Lameiu was still in), Islanders and ofcourse Rangers.
Talking about us hating the NJ, they have only two teams on any Major League games (claiming Giants to be solely New York's), and both of those teams are in finals. Ain't that something. What more a New Yawker can dread for...damn Jerseys.

Coming back to basketball, I like Defensive game. The record low 1st half wasn't exciting to watch but since it was because of more defensive strategy than offensive collapse, it was okay.

Ax, make that 4 more to go. 7 games stretch. Kudos to Tony Parker last night.

COME ON SPURS FAN , WAKE UP

Bravo to Tim Duncan, now the NBA is over. Great play by Tim Duncan. My salute to David Robinson for his great contribution to the Spurs for the last 14/15 years... Tony Parker still needs to grow up... Well, he became the second youngest point guard to win the champianship, but still he can't be compared with Magic Johnson. I enjoyed this forum... great contribution.. AX, DWI, YB, Kool_Dude, Lakers4ever, Oys, and alll..........

KNICKS GET
9. Mike Sweetney
30. Maciej Lampe
39. Some 7'4'' dude from Serbia.

This has to be the best night for Scott Layden. I was watching the draft pick from a local sports bar and I'll tell you, everybody was so happy with the picks. Even the garden fan, who were chanting to fire Layden initially, were cheering the picks later.

Sweetney is a Power Forward from Georgetown and with Dice, Harrington, Thomas and Weatherspoon, adds another jersey to Power Forward cluster. But he is a safety net if McDyess doesn't come back. Besides he gives us the option to trade any of those 4 players, as soon as a suitor is available. Sweetney is definately a bargain at no.9.

Maciej Lampe. What can I tell you. He was supposed to be on top 7 picks. Teams neglected him because of his contracts with Spanish team. Hopefully he can play for us this year. He is the best thing Knicks got for, in last 10 year's draft pick. The 6-11'' body is compared to that of Nowitzky, only a little bit slower.

The third guy, I heard about him first time. Apart from being 7'4'', I don't know any other strengths.

This is certainly a great day for the Knicks fans. Rusty and Ax, where art thou?

Kool_Dude, cool music, but was shocked when I opened this thread at my office.
AX Posted on 27-Jun-03 10:36 AM

It was nice to see Knicks finally getting a draft pick. I have only watched his NAIA final appearance and they lost the game to St. John. No doubt Sweetney is a good player. He is a more seasoned player than most of the others in the first round and he has worked very hard to maintain his fitness level. He is mentioned as 6'8" player but he is not more than 6'6". He is too undersized of a player for PF position. Hoyas are famous for producing big men like Ewing, Zo and Dikembe. I hope he has a good future with the Knicks.

I was hoping for the big trade either with Toronto or the Golden State or even Portland. Knicks are already clogged with too many PFs. That is why I persoanlly wanted Knicks to trade the pick for the true Center or even quality Point Guard.

The other two international players drafted in 2nd round seem to be okay. There both play center position. Lampe seems to be 4-5 years away from playing in the NBA and the other is an unknown factor. The only reason he is in the draft is that he is 74". If you and I were about the same height, we would be making millions like this kid.

Laydon better change the line up else he wont be coming back next year.

Here was the line up for the 02-03.

Center: This position needs big time help
Travis Knight (good backup)
Michael Doleac (too expensive)

Power Forward: trade the players you have even Kurt
Antonio McDyess (injury prone)
Kurt Thomas (good player)
Clarence Weatherspoon (too small to play this position and to slow for the SF forward position)
Othella Harrington (good trade bait, makes less money)

Small Forward: seems to be okay
Shannon Anderson (denfese speicalist)
Lee Nailon (can be good offensive player if trusted)

Shooting Guard: Trade Latrell and give lavar some play time
Allan Houston (most reliable player and makes way too much money)
Latrell Sprewell (one of the most over rated player, too erratic, need to be trade but not sure with his salary)
Lavar Postell (need to give some oppurunity)

Point Guard: Need big time help
Charlie Ward (another trade bait, jew basher, anybody want him???
Howard Eisley (good backup player)
Frank Willams (will know this year how good is he)
Rusty Posted on 09-Jul-03 05:40 AM

Damn Lakers fan,
NBA is getting very interesting. Did you guys just see that four future hall of famers will remain in the Lakers... Gary Payton gave the words to the Lakers and the Lakers are expecting the same thing from Karl Malone.

Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone, GP....starting line up for Phill Jackon!!!
AX Posted on 09-Jul-03 06:33 AM

from special source: Pippen will also be signing up with the Lakers to play Small Forward position.

Hence the starting line up (All Hall of Fame bound):
Gary Payton - Point Guard
Kobe Bryant - Shooting Guard
Scottie Pippen - Small Forward
Karl Malone - Power Forward
Shaq O'Neil - Center

and past hall of famers like Kareem, Magic and James Worthy are also coming out of retirement to play as reserves.

Rusty Posted on 09-Jul-03 01:09 PM

And Jason Kidd has possibility to go to either Spurs or Mavs... It might make slight difference.. Wounded from this year's heart-breakin loss, the Lakers would come out strong for the champianship with or without additional stars, but they are getting those more stars in their starting lineup anyways.. No doubt, the Lakers will continue their dynasty...

It will effect Shaq and Kobe's personal stat because they have to share the attempts for scoring with GP and Karl.

DWI and AX,
what's going on with the Knicks.. What happened to that rumor about A. Walker to the Knicks???
khimu Posted on 09-Jul-03 01:32 PM

oys_chill Posted on 09-Jul-03 01:53 PM

AX is wrong about scotty.......he aint coming to lakers..eheh.

anyways, just come to show why lakers is such a great team devoid of personal superstars. Payton and Malone, are ready to pay for the minimum NBA salary (1.5 mill a season) just to win a championship. Couldn't they have gone to SPURS or KINGS or PORTLAND....... NO..cause they just don't have the pride, legacy and heart of a champion like lakers......

wooohoooooo.......go lakers go!

AX Posted on 09-Jul-03 02:16 PM

Oys said "anyways, just come to show why lakers is such a great team devoid of personal superstars. "

I can understand that Oys, as a Lakers fan, you are very happy with the news. Anobody who follows basketball knows the reason behind The Glove wanting to play for the Lakers. Malone is a non factor, he just wants to win the championship be it in a starting or reserve role.

If you are talking about Legacy and Pride, Celts have a longer and richer tradition than the Lakers. And lets not forget about New York, the mecca of basketball.

We will mostly know by next week where all the resctirced and unrestricted players will be playing. Lets hope for the best for your team.
oys_chill Posted on 09-Jul-03 02:30 PM

Malone is gonna be a non factor?? 20 points a game last season? and he will be a non factor??? interesting........

mecca of basketball hoss ki longer tradition hoss....yes perhaps being a passionate fan re kya ;) ......why do they still wanna go to lakers..why not ALL CRAM AROUND SOME OTHER TEAM INSTEAD OF LAKERS???? time to give some credit bruu
yOuNgBlOoDz Posted on 09-Jul-03 08:59 PM

well still.. u can't say whose gonna win the championship.. of next year...
coz it will take time fo the malone n the gp to fit with lakers chemistry..
i doubt bout lakers going fo the champ.. if kiddo signs with spurs.. it might be spurs again next yr.. but.. i know its gonna be tough to win the championship next year.. whoeva wins it.. really.. 04 gonna be a huge challenge..

DWI Posted on 10-Jul-03 10:23 AM

Payton going to Lakers will certainly make Lakers the best team in last 5 years.

Rusty, A. Walker coming to Knicks is still a rumor. I think Layden is trying to swap Spree for Walker straight, no other players involved. There was a new rumor, that they wanted Ward and Kurt Thomas for Tim Thomas and future # 1 pick. Knicks are still trying to add a legitimate center. Last workout with Sweetney wasn't as good as hoped for.
DWI Posted on 10-Jul-03 10:32 AM

Jason Kidd wants Byron Scott out

What do you guys think?

I used to hate everybody in Nets uniform, except Kidd, but now I don't have high opinions about him either. Byron Scott was one of the inefficient coaches of NBA but he has learned a lot over the years. His constant nagging and foul mouth is just a proof of saying he lacks confidence in himself, but he is not that bad of a coach either.

No player should be given that much of authority to 'fire' his coach. Eric Lindros did it in Hockey and Magic Johnson did it (although in consent with Jerry West). I am not a fan of those two decisions either, but Kidd went public on saying that if they want me here, they should fire Byron.

Nets were beaten in 2002 by Shaq and Kobe. They were outplayed, not exactly outcoached, in 2003. Do you think any other coach could have saved the tournament for them? Now that Byron will be gone, which good coach, on his right mind, would want to come to a team which is controlled by a point guard. Do you make player happy or the owner? Only way to make them both happy is to win the trophy and that is the hardest thing to do in NBA.

Nets would be a better team without Byron, but Kidd took a stupid decision on making that public himself. Rod Thorn should have stepped in, if there was such a need. Nets is Kidd's team, no doubt. Attendence has gone slightly up because of his star value, but that step would be costly in many levels. Did he do it because of the status of the assistant coach? Whatever be the reason, a player's job is to play, not fire or hire coaches (should be allowed upto recommending not taking action).
DWI Posted on 22-Jul-03 06:40 PM

KNICKS TRADE SPREE FOR VAN HORN

For last few days, I had been hearing the rumors that Knicks are involved in 3 way trade for swapping Spree with Van Horn and that Philly needed something more. Seems like there is now the involvement of the 4th team, Minnesota. Instead of originally heard, Spurs, Hawks are the key player in this Block Buster trade.

In summary, it seems that Knicks will be getting Keith Van Horn in exchange for Spree.
DWI Posted on 22-Jul-03 06:46 PM

Trade analysis:

T'wolves has become the strongest they have ever been in years. With OlowoKandi, Garnet and Spree in their lineup, they are a team to beat now in the west.

Keith Van Horn is definately an UPGRADE over Spreewell. Both of the players are inconsistent and can't post up in the paint. But Spree really had that extra flair and fire. However, Keith has better market value and is younger. Youth is the key point in the trade for Knicks who are accumulating young stars in Vranes, Lampe and Sweetney. I could live without the trade but I don't hate it either. I actually like it as it gives some change in the lineup. I bet 1000 dollars that Spree will be hurt in the midseason next year.

AX Posted on 23-Jul-03 09:09 AM

Has the trade been finalized?

If so, it sickens me. I hope that Layden dude gets fired 10 games into the season. What is he getting back
for trading Sprewell? Keith Van Horn? oh please, it makes me throw up. He is the same guy who got booed
every time he touched the ball while in Jersey. He is too soft a player for the PF position and Knicks already have loads of ppl
playing that position (McDyes, Thomas, Harrington, Spoon and new rookies Sweetney and Lajmpe).

Knicks used to be known for their toughness and defense. I can not see them getting better this year.
THe team from other side of the Hudson river has made a strong case for another
trip to the final by re-signing Kidd and signing Zo. Philly will get better with
Big Dog, 2nd legitimate scorer behind AI. Detroit, Boston, Magic and Pacers are already good team.

I would have understood if they got good player either for Center or Point Guard position who they really need.

Knicks fans, let's chant

FIRE LAYDEN!!!

DWI Posted on 23-Jul-03 11:48 AM

Khimu, keep worrying.

K_loaded, T'wolves are a team to beat but they sure aren't the 2nd best team of the west. Heck, they aren't even 3rd or 4th on my opinion. I'd rank
1. Lakers (I ranked Spurs first last season)
2. Spurs
3. Mavs
4. Suns (not too many would agree)
5. T'wolves
6. Blazers etc.

YoungBloodz, thanks bra. My team is a symbol of mis-management. We aren't going anywhere for next 2-3 years so I will take any trade, will keep watching the Knickerbockers.
DWI Posted on 23-Jul-03 12:00 PM

AX

I can understand your disappointment. If you listen to the WFAN today, you will only hear people cursing Layden. Even Sports web-bulletins are filled with anti-trade statements. I am not a big fan of this trade, but I don't think it is that bad either.

Knicks have become one of the softest team in NBA from the toughest team that Van Gundy had. If we trade Kurt Thomas also, then we can start playing on WNBA. But jest aside, this ain't that bad trade as it seems.

Agreed that we don't get much from Van Horn. But look at what we are loosing. I'd never give up the Spreewell of 99-2000, but he has aged now. His legs are slow and his ethic as bewildering as always. Name one single team that were willing to take Spree. The Pros and Cons would be:

Pros:
1. Knicks get bigger, a full 5 inches.
2. Van Horn will play a natural 3. Spree is 2 and is playing 3.
3. You get more Rebounds (though Van Horn only had about 6 rpg with Sixers)
4. Knicks get younger, 3 years.
5. Van Horn has better market/tradeable value than Spree
6. Van Horn is young so less injury prone. Although Spree has been known for his toughness, he is this close to getting a major injury in his skinny legs.
7. A change was what the Management needed to boost the sell (however it likely will get backfired, see the CONs part).
8. Knicks are ethically a sound team now.
9. Van Horn has always played in the shadow of others. First Marbury then Iverson. May be the Big Apple pressure and lack of a superstar induce some energy.

Cons:
1. Knicks loose a natural leader. No one is big time superstar, leader in Knicks.
2. Again clog the # 3 position. If McDyess starts playing, young talent like Sweetney will never see the minutes.
3. Van Horn has 1 year more in his contract than Spree with his 3rd year asking for about 15 million dollars.
4. The trade will anger a lot of season ticket holder who were avid Spree fan.
5. There is no fire neither toughness in the Knicks team.

Knicks traded Defence for Rebounds, fire for age. All in all, it ain't that bad. It could have been worse. If Van Horn develops to be a great player, we will enjoy it. Otherwise, it ascertains the firing of Scott Layden.
AX Posted on 23-Jul-03 12:19 PM

I agree with DWI about the Western Conference, all the teams he mentioned will be in the 03-04 playoffs.

I rank KINGS as #4 ahead of the SUNS. With capable starters like CWEBB, Peja, Bibby and Divac and decent bench players KINGS are a competent team. I would have second thoughts about the outcome of MAVS-KINGS game if CWEBB had not been hurt.

It will be fun to watch the SUNS. After many injury prone seasons, Penny finally seems to be healthy. It should be a really good team with Penny, Marbury, Marion and Amare.

And I would pick Houston as the 8th seed.
DWI Posted on 23-Jul-03 12:35 PM

I knew I missed a team there.
Yeah, I would rank Kings 3rd or 4th Houston is definite 8th. Rest of the team should save there money and trade their players to Knicks.
1. Lakers
2. Spurs
3. Kings
4. Mavs
5. Suns
6. T'wolves
7. Blazers
8. Rockets
AX Posted on 23-Jul-03 12:50 PM

#1 #2 and #3 works only in the scenario in which he plays the SF position. He is a bit too slow to play the 3 position. I find him more of a PF.

#4 that make sense, but what happened to the "must win now" motto of KNICKS???

#5 TRUE

#6 I think Sprewell has a good 2 years left in his leg. If Knicks can get 65 games (80%) out of Van Horn, it would be great.

#7 get ready to pack your bags LAYDEN.

#8 what does that have do with the game? if that's the primary issue why was Sprewell signed to start with and why is Ward (with his anti semantic views) still with the team?

#9 I never thought of him as a first option guy. He will again be playing in the shadow of Houston.

For me this trade is a NO NO unless he is a bait for another trade.
DWI Posted on 23-Jul-03 12:56 PM

#4 > They aren't winning with Spree either. Rather accomplish another sweet goal.

#6 > Traditionally, yeah. He should have 2-4 years. But something tells me he is going down next season. You can make the same argument about Van Horn too, though.

#8> What Ward said affected Knicks publc relation not the team chemistry. Although that might have created a little stir in the team but he never came up late for practice nor he failed to report his absence. These are team-stuff. If you are a leader, you better
follow the on the court rules. I still support Spree after all that, I hope I am not developing a detest for Spree trying to defend this trade.

#9> I will give you that. He will be second to Houston.

Rusty Posted on 23-Jul-03 12:58 PM

DWI,
Very nice analysis as always. I am neither excited nor cheerless by this trade. Knicks won't get any better with the add of Van Horn and gone of Sprewell.

However, as DWI said, "Van Horn has always played in the shadow of others. First Marbury then Iverson. Maybe the Big Apple pressure and lack of a superstar induce some energy." This could happen.

DWI Posted on 23-Jul-03 12:59 PM

#9 I will give you that. He will be second to Houston. But Houston ain't as over powering and vocal as Marbury or Iverson.

What do you think about the Knicks Young talents, if you are following the summer league? Sweetney was playing good for a whlie. Lampe has picked up his game recently. He should be ready for the season after next. Vranes ain't ready at all. The biggest improvement is by Frank Williams. He is scoring over 20 in most of the games and lately picked up his assists ratio too.Knicks should play him more.

DWI Posted on 23-Jul-03 01:00 PM

OMG. Rusty is here. Didn't know you would check out.
Knicks are giving few reasons to watch them coming season. Ax and many other Knicks fans are disappointed but they couldn't go worse than last year...I think.
Welcome back Rusty, u still in Nepal?
AX Posted on 23-Jul-03 01:13 PM

So far, the best news for the KNICKS is the Summer League. Williams seems to be ready for the NBA this time around, he will be competeing for more play time with eisley/ward.

I can't see Sweetney as a starter, he could be a year away. Being the youngest, Lampje has shown promising signs. Too bad that Knicks wants to use him as a Center. I believe he is 2-3 years away from being able to play Center position.

I really believe that KNICKS need a good center and trade away the PFs. Give away Thomas and one of each following pair of Eisley/Ward and Spoon/Othella for a good Center or give them all away for a Center and a PG

:-)
hum-ba-ba Posted on 23-Jul-03 10:40 PM

the pack o' wolves seems to have grown very strong.. and are howling!! with cassell and spree to go with troy hudson, they have a darn good back court. more importantly, all three stars KG, spree and cassell are unselfish players, and like to pass the ball around. if they get their chemistry going they are going to create some havoc in the west. wasn't olowkandi a frist pick a few years back? he hasn't lived up to that sort of reputation has he? maybe things will turn around - hunger is contagious..
hum-ba-ba Posted on 23-Jul-03 10:50 PM

and doode, what on earth are knicks doing bringing van horn in! size?? gimme a break - he's lost those in the past few years.. he aint tall anymore, he becomes small and disappears when the team needs his presence. spree was all there was really. mcdyees (sp?) better get good and the new folks deliver something, otherwise i see no playoffs at the end of season.
Rusty Posted on 24-Jul-03 05:46 AM

DWI,
Yes I am here now. As everybody said, this trade has made TWolves stronger than ever.. Twolves won't be the champian, but they would certainly be the exciting team to watch. Now, forget about Mavs. At the end, Lakers gonna snatch the title. By the way, when did Cassell go to TWolves??

Also, notice that 76ers has also become stronger team with the add of Marc Jackson and Glen Robinson. Glen Robinson is certainly a consistent player. He always maintains 20+ points/game and 6+ rebounds/game. Also, Marc Jackson needs more time to put on his show.

I am still NOT satisfied with the Knicks' trade. They are again failed to get a versatile center or point guard this season. I would really appriciate, should they acquired Michael Olowokandi or Brad Miller. Do you think McDyess will come back this season? They could get Andre Miller as their point guard.... Why the HELL they decide to get Van Horn?? Nonetheless, Sprewell is not any better player than Van Horn, but Sprewell certainly had a leadership role in the team and he used to carry the team. I hope he will do good in TWolves under the shadow of KG.

Anyways, I can't wait to see these exciting teams in NBA.
Rusty Posted on 24-Jul-03 05:49 AM

Ooh Yeah, I was once Sprewell's BIG fan. I even bought a jersey with his name...

Jai Knickerbocker!!
DWI Posted on 24-Jul-03 05:55 AM

Rusty,
well come back. If you've brought some sukuti, I will crash in your place.
I don't blame you for not liking the trade. I guess 80% anaylst and fans don't. Read the Mike Lupica column on Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/story/103346p-93529c.html).
I am just trying to be optimistic. They sure can learn something from the NY Mets who are getting younger every second.
Layden missed the boat on Kandyman. He was aquired for 4.5 million exception that the Knicks also could have offered. Forget about Andre Miller and Brad Miller probably will goto the Sac Kings.

Hum-ba-ba, Van Horn sure is a 'Casper' who tends to disappear during the game in progress. Don't expect much from the new comers. Sweetney is the only one ready to play this season, even though Lampe has shown better stuff lately. I hope Chaney would use them more, but you won't see that in the early season.

Better watch NY Giants this season. They will goto the Super Bowl, guaranteed.

Mavs ranked 2nd is a far stretched idea, they are still too soft. Kings will definately be better with healthy webber, besides they probably will get Brad Miller (givin up Torkoglu). Mike Bibby probably will return to his old form.

dwi bra.. its just mah personnal opinion.. tara i still dont see any chances for lakers in coming season.. well thats probably because.. now kobe n shaq will have ta share their points n ball game with mailman n gp.. n it might take half a year.. or more then that for mailman n gp to fit in laker's ball game.. they need to get used to the great jackson's way of playing... n even if they fit in that laker's chemistry.. now we cannot.. i repeat we cannot underestimate.. other western teams.. i mean almost everyone is improving.. n getting better.. well dwi bra.. je bhaye pani hami fans lai.. maja hune bho.. we gonna enjoy it better.. dats obviously.. wut YOU and I and other nba fans r looking fwd fo.. n lakers fan killin meh.. hey hey .. that ain't gonna happen.. coz ain't got any lakers fan around.. n laker's fan won't dare to try dirty south ;=) .. hehe
neways dwi bra.. good luck with ur knicks..
while i pray for van gundy to show them young rocket team a path that will lead em to atleast playoff this season.. n eventually to the nba finals :=)
btw don't ya think van gundy was a big loss for knicks.. the best part i liked bout him is.. he supports his players n believes in them.. n he proved that. when knicks were playing against maimi heat.. n he grabbed mouring's leg.. while johnson got into fight with mouring.. not many coachs do that..
