The New York International Auto Show, which I hope to make it to this weekend, will be showcasing Mercedes' newest offering, the Mayback. Priced in the mid 300's, its expected to be the Ritz on wheels, with only the butler missing as an optional extra !

That aside, its that Bentley Continental GT that I'm all worked up about. It sports the VW developed W12 engine that develops a whopping 600 horses, but is all polished burl and conolly leather inside. Now thats a beast I wouldn't mind riding.

Not to mention the new BMW M5 that will have an inline 8 that has 350 horses and cranks out 325 lb feet of torque. Shiver me timbers !

On the more affordable range, the Audi S4 and its ragtop version are VERY attractive. If anyone is contemplating either model, for the Quattro. The added performance on slick or icey pavements is reputed to be worth the tranny's weight in gold.

To quote gurl, "If ONLY"...

I think it's the Maybach not Mayback.......after all it's German.

SL55 AMG......the mother of all sportscars!

So what's an SL55? It's your basic $88,000 Mercedes SL500 two-seater transformed by Mercedes-Benz tuning division, AMG, into the $118,000 automotive equivalent of an F-16 fighter jet.

What that $118-grand buys you, however, is the most awesome, most perfect, most devastatingly quick, most complete sports car on the road today.

Essentially, it's all about power. The SL55 comes with a supercharged 5.5-liter V8 that delivers a mind-blowing 493-horsepower and a brain-numbing 516 lb-ft of torque.

Whip out your trusty stopwatch, nail the throttle, and by the time you've counted from one to four-and-a-half, the speedo needle is kissing the 60mph mark.

Standstill to 100mph? A mere 10.9 seconds. Enough to win most Friday night drag club races. Top speed? The computer stops play at a politically correct 156mph.

"The simple act of squeezing a pedal to the metal slams you into the seatback, drains blood from your cranium, raises ever single hair on the back of your neck, and leaves you a drooling idiot whose vocabulary is suddenly reduced to expletives", according to Howard Baker, a car expert and reviewer for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate.

"Yes, there are quite a few other sports cars around that can deliver this kind of outrageous performance Porsche 911 Turbo. Ferrari 360 Modena. Lamborghini Diablo.

But it's the relaxed, refined, laid-back way the big Benz rockets down the road that sets it apart."
