this is my essay on argumentative paper but it's driving me crazy.Anyone have better idea of what I should include so that it catches my professor eyes.A good title as well. thanks everyone Diversity Diversity is composed of distinct forms or qualities. Most would say that we, as humans, are surrounded by diversity in all forms. I think it is more scarce than common. Today most people want to organize their thoughts and their religions. They want to find a happy medium, which may make us different from each other. There is a certain kind of diversity that I see everyday, Groups of beings mostly identical to each other all-flocking together as a walking statement. Their agenda is to significantly differ from another herd, but to remain a mirror image of each other. Are they cloned only in appearance? I guess there is no way of knowing. After all, you can never get inside another beings head to see if and how their thoughts may vary from yours or the next persons. The great evil of mass production is causing most everyone I encounter to fit right into a category according to his or her appearance. If you walk into a corporate chain, for example Wal-Mart, you are guaranteed to purchase something that hundreds or thousands of people, may already have. Imagine all those people worked, or went to school with you, and they all showed up wearing the same exact shirt as you on the same day. It makes the idea that we are all so diverse difficult for me to buy in to. Then again, appearance is only one of millions of factors that play into a persons identity. There is also religion, morals, politics, sexuality, etc. All of these things slightly limited, due to the lack of acceptance of unconventional ideas in American society. Just look at our constitutional rights regarding religion. If I decide to murder an animal in religious practice and charges are brought against me for animal cruelty, I would have to prove that I am part of a recognized, legitimate religion that is known to posses those practices. What difference does it make if I made up the religion or if it is presently founded, as long as the same standards are enforced on me as someone practicing on what is and is not acceptable. The same goes for our morals. There are certain offenses that one can commit that are seen as universally wrong such as; rape, murder, and theft. If you dont consider these acts corrupt than you are deemed insane. Does anyone ever stop to think why? Who is it exactly that gets to decide what is wrong or right? If you ask someone why rape, stealing, and murder are wrong, it will be because ____ said so. . Please answer with one of the following; books, television, mommy/daddy, the bible, or because I said so. Then are those salient issues that people tend to lean on one side of the fence or the other with regards to, like abortion, the death penalty, is it inhumane to kill animals? But when asked their reasoning, they will not stray far off a set path in one direction or another. Why is abortion okay? A woman has a right to choose. Its her body. Why is abortion wrong? Its against god. Its not the babys fault. If you were to ask 10, 000 people these same questions, you will not get 10, 000 different answers. They may all word their answers a little differently, but they will still be the same answers. Now, break those people down into groups by religion and ask them again. You may get two different answers per group if you are lucky. Another factor to consider is sexuality. Here is an aspect of human life where people tend to vary enormously. Most people are very particular about their sex, but they want no one to know. Now homosexual sex is becoming widely accepted, because every one could not hide that they were engaging in the act of it anymore. That is just two sexual preferences. There is bondage, bestiality, food sex, roll playing, and an un-nameable amount of fetishes, voyeurism, exhibitionism, and child pornography. The list goes on, and on, and on. Sex is bad and no one wants to talk about it, but everybody wants it just a little different than the person next to him or her. I can appreciate the level of diversity we have reached with sex as a whole race. Is their diversity in the government or are we once again limited? Whether we are discussing what political group we are affiliated with, or how many forms of government there are internationally, the area to move in is decreasing. We, as Americans, want the whole world to adopt a democratic government. Our insignia is; it will be done our way, or no way. That is just not how it works. Not for Adolph Hitler, and not for us. When someone travels in path that is unacceptable to us, we criticize and interfere. The one way that all life has a unique identity is in genetic make-up and physical traits. No one is existence will ever look exactly the same as me. My DNA is completely original in form as every snowflake that falls from the sky onto the ground. Some of us are different in that we have handicaps, which is unfortunate. Others have abnormal physical capabilities, like the inability to fell pain. There are people that are double jointed, or have photographic memory. These diversified physical characteristics also lead to another phenomenon, our deaths. . It is truly heart breaking to think of the possibility that aside from our physical traits, and our deaths, that we are not all completely unique in mind and existence. We may be created and placed in this world to act and dress vary similar, if not completely alike to someone else. There are those few freaks that due to natures hatred for the normal, may act, think, and exist in a completely different way. The question we have to ask ourselves is do we want them? Will they screw up our plan for a unified, perfect existence? will they refuse to find the happy medium, to agree or disagree? I hope we are all diverse, not just all walking around aimlessly, trying to be different just because society put so much emphasis on its importance. WE made an example out of Hitlers Third Reich, but are we headed right towards starting our own Reich? `

Alicia, While I claim to be no expert on such weighty intellectual matters, I felt you may want to consider a few of these issues - first define what you mean by diversity From the little that I understood, your paper deals with differences in clothing, sexual prefernces and opinions on abortion. Might you also want to examine the issues of diversity in the workplaces and education ? - Take education. What its benefits might be of having an education system that included all groups within society. What might be the merits, or lack thereof, of the programs in place to ensure this. Such as affirmative action relating to college admissions. Is this fair, or does this promote a better mix in colleges that would not occur but for these programs ? Have such programs outlived their usefullness ? - To focus on the workplace, racial and economic segregation is hardly an ideal is acknowledged. There are mechanisms in place to help disadvantaged and minority groups gain a share of the economic pie. Does this effort at promoting diversity achieve laudable goals, or does this too distort the spirit of free and open competion. Where the best wins. - be cautious about making statements such as "the great evil of mass production ", one can challenge that assumption quickly by giving solid examples of the benefits of mass production. Manufactured on a limited scale, as it was in the sixties and seventies, each computer cost several million dollars each, and could fill a football field. Thanks to the genius of mass manufacturing, the personal computer is now a commodity that costs far less than a dress from Versace or Dior. And as the former vice-president Al Gore said, "My Ford Taurus has more computing power than the rocket that first took man to the moon and back." - your reasonings on rape and murder, and its justification or lack thereof, are murky at best. However, what is not clear is how it fits in with the issue of diversity. Just my two cents worth. Good luck. Do come back and tell us what the prof thought of it. Cheers !
