Did you know they were classmates? Class of 1970. One finished Board First and the other Board 2nd in SLC. Now, they sit on opposite ends of the table and negotiate.... what could be the future of Nepal. http://www.nepalnews.com.np/ntimes/issue142/headline_1.htm B_D. |

Out of all the names mentioned in the article I have only met Dr. Devkota, he is admirable. When asked he did not hesitate to share with me why he decided to come to Nepal despite job offers aboard. I have lot of respect for Dr. Devkota. |

The quote is note worthy: Krishna Pokharel says: "Change comes from the mind not from the barrel of a gun. |

Once I was unduly prejudiced against Dr. Devkota -- without ever having met him. That was so because, at the time, I foolishly trusted the negative guff of the youngest son of another neurosurgeon in Kathmandu. It was NOT clear to me at the time that the son had his own ax to grind against Dr. Devkota. Later, after meeting and talking with Dr. Devkota in Kathmandu, I became wiser. After that, I did not hesitate to CORRECTE my views of him. The youngest son was WRONG. Yes, Dr. Devkota is a NOT a perfect person (who is perfect anyway?); and he has his share of faults. [Narrowly and technically trained as a doctor, he does not appear to have -- what I call -- a liberal-arts sense of our society; and this can be evidenced from his calling the Constitution "just a piece of paper".] But he is not as moronic as he was made out to be by some people. Anyway, the lesson I drew from all this is this: NEVER believe bad things about other Nepalis until you have yourself met with those Nepalis and have some way verified those negative claims. Until then, you are only carrying someone else's prejudices as your beliefs. And that's a bad thing. Other than that, the article was interesting. Now let's wait for our very own Kollywood to make a movie out of the story. oohi ashu ktm, nepal |
