Dear ANA Members and well wishers. A warm Greetings to you all from Nation's Capital Washington DC. It gives me great satisfaction and pleasure to keep you all updated about ANA and NECC activities. I am happy to share with you in this note, briefly, some of the recent activities and events that have occurred and some of the things that needs to be done for which we need help from the community. 1) On March 31, 2003 Pandit Shridhar Gyawali's mother passed away. ANA conveyed its condolences to Panditji and his family back home. He left for Nepal on April 2, 2003 and will be back in first week of May 2003. 2) On April 12, 2003 NECC Celebrated RAM NAMAMI PUJA at our Temple. There were about 30 -40 devotees who did Aarati , Bhajan, and Puja. Prasad were donated by devotees. 3) On April 17, 2003 Mr. Bimal Devkota, myself and, our Engineering Consultant (A B Consultant ) Mr. Sanjay Patel attended the Public Hearing at Capital Park and Planning Commission with Prince George's County, Planning Board at Upper Marlboro, Maryland regarding NECC Permit. P.G County staff recommended 4-02110 approval with conditions (TCPI/65/02). This hearing was scheduled to hear from all the neighbors before final approval by PG County Planning Board. There were about 30-40 of our neighbors who showed up to voice their concerns. They asked PG County Planning Board not to issue any permit to build our dream place. There were 17 speakers from their side and I was all by myself from NECC defending our position. Finally the Board voted in our favor 2 to 1 with lots of conditions as PG staff had originally suggested. Despite the approval by the Board we will be talking with our neighbors soon, as we need to bring them on board before any construction activity. We are working with their Attorney Susan Grey and setting up the time to make this thing work. It will be very difficult to build anything without the cooperation of our neighbors. We will let you know the development as it develops. 4) Dr. Bal Ram Aryal (ANA Authorized Representative for NECC Fund-raising from local and Maryland State Government) is working hard to get the needed information and setting up the meeting with PG County officials and we will pursue for this grant soon. 5) On April 19, 2003 , ANA Executive meeting was held at our Temple. ANA Executives thanked Dr. Kunjar Sharma, Dr. Shailendra Shukla, Mr. Raja Upadhaya, for their hard work in preparing the revised NECC By-Laws , which got approved unanimously. Now we have to register NECC separately as per the PG County and State of Maryland Law. We will be working on that soon. The detail minutes of the executive meeting will soon be posted in the ANA web and sent to the Executive members. We also appointed the same group to revise the ANA 's By-Laws to meet our changing needs. Anybody who wants to join their team to develop the ANA By-Law please let me know or talk to them directly. 6) ANA is collecting names, addresses and telephone number of all Nepalis living in North America to publish a Directory in July 2003 and distribute at the Denver Convention. Please provide your information by filling the on-line Directory form by visiting ANA web site at http://www.ana-home.org . It is very important that you tell your friends and family to file the information. 7) The planned fund-raising visit for Ms. Manisha Koirala may not be fruitful for July because we are still working to get firm commitment from her. She is yet to respond to the email I sent to her and I will update you as soon as I hear from her. 8) Friends, we are in the process of publishing the revised and updated Nepali cook book so please send as many recipes as you can to Mrs. Jyoty Pathak. 9) As you all know that 21st ANA Convention will be held on July 3-6, 2003 at Marriott Hotel at Denver Tech Center. Please mark your calendar to attend the convention. For more detail please visit ANA home page at http://www.ana-home.org. Our convenes Mr, Naveen Dutta, President of Rocky mountain Friends of Nepal (RMFN) local Chair and Mr. Kshitij Sharma Convener (secretary of RMFN) along with other members are working very hard along with their team to make the convention a grand success. At ANA Executive meeting we approved their programs as presented with minor adjustments. The program will be posted in the web along with the minutes. We will fill you in with more detail latter as things speed up. 10) On behalf of ANA I would like to CONGRATULATE our Past President (First ANA President ) Dr. Hari H. Sharma for getting the Spirit of Humanity award from American Red Cross on April 12, 2003, No one deserved more than Dr Sharma for his three decades of effort in promoting Spirit of Humanity in America. 11) On behalf of ANA I would also like to CONGRATULATE our young ANA member Mr. Parag Pathak for standing out at Harvard university. Parag made all ANA members, Nepali Community in general, and Nepal proud by his achievement. We wish him all the best and wish him luck in keeping up the good work. 12) Please send all your articles and news to our Chief Editor, Dr. Bidya Ranjeet before May 15, 2003 for next the ANA Newsletter We need everybody's corporation, please contact her and help her. Dr. Ranjeet will send out a separate message through the ANA distribution list. . Lastly, friends, truth is the only glue which will bond the ANA Family. Like the American saying goes " You can fool some people all the time, you can fool all the people some time but you cannot fool all the people all the time". Let us be fair, reasonable and selfless in building this institution. Let us see the facts and records and not hear say, smoke screen, gossips before you comment on anybody. I have been hearing about past presidents influence on me, which is a myth. Any decision I make is mine and I am responsible for and accountable for it. My doors are open for everybody, I listen to everybody all paid or unpaid members of ANA and their family. What ANA and NECC need are doers, I am sure some people have better vision then others but we need to convert that vision into reality. Please get involved, don't quit, fight for your rights while respecting others. ANA is nonpolitical organization and there is no room for party politics, it is a unpaid unselfish organization and wrong place to play politics, if any. Thank you and God Bless you, Krishna Nirola President-ANA |
