The DV-2004 lottery visa has given out the first batch of names. They will still be posting names. Now my situation is I am out of status here in the US but I won the DV-2004. What should I do now? How can I still get the green card? Should I go back to Nepal. It has been four months since I am out of status. Should I join school? Please be kind to advice.... |

Luma: If are you illegal in the US, DO NOT and I mean DO NOT apply for the GREEN CARD here. I know a guy who was staying in the US illegally and won the DV lottery. He hired a lawyer to strenghten his case ... but he was rejected for the Green card and has been arraigned for a deportation hearing. I do not know if you can join a school after being out of status. I think your best bet would be to apply for the Green Card from Nepal. It is just my suggestion .. so think about it ... |

Is there a way to find the list of winners? I know for last few years the only way to find was to get the letter in your mailbox (except if you have signed up for some consultancy). Where can we find the names? |

If you apply through an agency by paying $55 they will let you know that you have won. Skikhar thank you for the suggestion. |

I think Luma is right, there are few agencies that update their users (eg www.usais.org) But that wasn't the answer to my question, I had already mentioned that part in my question. Is there any other official listing ? |

I just moved out as of May 1st from the address I listed on the form, do they forward my mail to my new address?. I have heard that INS and IRS do not forward mails. Is there any other way that I can find out I was a luck winner or not? Please advice |

You got to go to the post office and give them your new address...thats what I did and they forwarded my mail from the Ins with the rest of the other mails...thats what you are suppose to do right?? |

PFH, it might hurt you. It's one of the reason why they draw more than 80,000 numbers to fullfill 50,000 places. The letters might be lost, some people can't find sponsors, some people are denied visa on some unknown ground, and the list goes on.... |

yup, that is correct, But they will only forward your mail for one year, so u have to notify all your senders of your new address within a year of your move. |

Thank you guys for your kind advice and I have changed my address witht the USPS. My question to you was Do they forward INS mail and/or is there any other way I can find out if I am a winner? |

As far as I know, since it's not INS who forward the mail, it's USPS & they won't be discriminating on whose mail to forward or not (they aren't gonna individually scan the senders). But make sure it is well within one year. One question, it seems people applying from Nepal have gotten the lottery more than people applying from USA (ratio wise). Is it a good idea to send the postmail from Nepal then? |

When is the next DV lottery? I need to inform my family members. |

FYI: If you move, USPS will forward your mail for a year for free. Beyond that, you will have to pay $9.99 per year to USPS - if you wish to continue receiving forwarded mail. Hope this helps. |

Bhenda2 Prah Ji, What good will happen if your family get DV? They will come here... work hard... make some money... pay taxes... again work hard... again pay taxes...eventually they will die... and you know what will happen... they will again pay taxes. Why bother coming just to pay taxes and why bother applying if they don't bother coming? (Just increasing my family's chance of getting selected on DV :)) Happy Taxing!! |

Mr. Babaal , If you apply through the agency by paying $55 they make sure that the letter is entered in the right time. Many times they just disqualify your letter even before opening it. They have certain time period and the envelope has to be of speciific size and also the rules are changed all the time. There you are thinking that you have done your job and all but it will be sad to find out that they didn't even open your envelope. You know what I mean? If you go to nationalvisaservice.com you can read all th einformation from there. The new names are not posted yet but the letters are all sent already. I got mine. My address was different but I changed to through the postoffice. Thanks. |

Congratulations luma on winning the lottery! This is a golden opportunity and don't bomb it.Consult a lawyer first before you do anything. Find a sponser in the mean time. Goodluck to you. |
