I always wondered what the colours in our flag stood for? Blue for peace, red for Life? And does the colour white in the "chandra," and "surya" stand for something also? Actually, what does chandra and surya stand for? Somebody care to explain plz.? Appreciate it. Thanks!

I don't know what's the significance of the white color in our flag but as far as i know:
Chandra represents the 15 day lunar cycle. So if you count the spikes("??) coming out of the moon in our fglag, its always 15.
surya represents a month. So, if you count the spikes(??) its always 30.

BTW, the nepali flag used to have faces of chandra surya.. chandra surya used to have eyes and nose till the 60s. Its only after that, we adapted this flag.

THe spikes coming out of the Sun in our flag is 12, representing 12 months ofa year. A complete solar cycle(?) I guess.So, I was wrong when i said, it represents a month. I knew it had to do something with teh monthly/yarly cycle but was to lazy to do some rsearch. But, today, to check the validity of my own statement, I asked a few people, and only after that I realzied that i was wrong.
Sorry, hijo 30 lekheko ma. Please accept my sincere apologies.
And, this teaches me one more lesson: never write anything without doing proper homework.

My understanding is Sun represents the creation, hard work, dedication and bravery. The moon on the other hand represents the calmness and hospitality that is extended to visitors.
I have also heard that moon represents current chandrabanshi rulers of Nepal and sun represents the mall kings of Nepal as they were suryabanshi rulers.
The sun and moon is also seen in the lichivi flag that is in Changu Narayan temple, and seen throughout the history.
Red color is the national color "simrik"
Blue color represents the calmness and vastness of the sky, mahan ra bishal, Nepali heart (man) jastai. :-)
I do not know why sun and moon are white.
I will ask my dad for more explanation and will post more later. It might take me a week or two.

Allow me to join in on this crash course on "everything you ever wanted to know about the Nepali flag but were shy to ask."
I'm impressed by Isolated Freak's profuse apologies to the citizens of Sajha for getting the number of rays in the sun wrong (12, he corrects, not 30). I hope he doesn't mind me pointing out that the number of rays in our moon is also actually 16, and not 15. But the moon on the flag appears as a crescent, and constitutionally, it should only show 8 rays or spikes.
For precise geometric guidelines on how to draw the sun and the moon in our national flag, please consult the relevant Article and Annex of the most current constitution of the kingdom (2047).
Who says drawing good flags is less complicated than rocket science?

YB, U mean I am shanti? Mero bhagya ma teti ramro naam lekheko thiyena rahecha. Aafu ta pariyo "ASHANTI." U know untiL today I hadn't thought about singer ashanti's name. It hit me today, what her name meant :-). Oh Boy! Am I not slow :-D!

tyo chandrama ko matlab ho shitalta which is directed towards friends and soorya ko matlab ho tej or agni jasle shatru haru lai bhasma gari dinchha. yahi ho hamro jhanda ma raheko raheko chandra soorya ko artha maile bujhe samma. let me hope i am not wrong
