NEHU = North Eastern Hill University..Offices just past Bada Bazaar, on the way to Mowprem, if I recollect correctly. Anyone for taking them St. Mary's cuties for a walk to golflinks ? Boating aint too bad an idea either. Just steer clear of those Naga blokes from Happy Valley though. Ruck, kong.. got kwai ? :)

Hoit Kein, Nga dei Shillong briew. Nga umdon Kwai. Yes, memories of past, lovely place, nature at her best, except for after the late eighties when those communal demons crept in the mind of simple tribal p-eoples. ou812 There are some here. I hope they come out of hiding for you! :) As for the big talk bro, the reason why I feel right at home here in sajha is that there are so many heavy weights with BT! We blend in so well, you wouldn't even notice us, except for the humjayega jokes of course!! :o)

Suna Bhanana!!! Thank you for your promt insight of sajaha society. Do I detect a hint of sour causticity on your introductory line? Maybe am being touchy (apolo in advance if so!!). Am glad you feel right at home here with all the BTs around. Good for you. Personally speaking, I have couple of heavyweight titles under my belt too. Had to take off my sparring gloves due to excessive and incessant knock on the head. These days I am but a mere spectator. I just poked my nose in today coz of the word Darj. Sniff Sniff.. Memoriessssss all alone in the moonlight... All thats left in this brittle old age. Peace

ou812 :) caustic ta alik heavy nai bhayo tara sano tino sarcasm ta chalihalcha ni hoina ra? Maybe I was being too defensive about big talk from Darjeeling! "excessive and incessant knock on the head" - I can assure you, I wasn't the one knocking on that wonderful tete of yours. Aru nai paryo hola. I assure you I am mellowing with age but haven't stopped meowing from time to time. Yea...memories of darj still lingers...moreso now than ever!!

Suna Itsy bitsy sarcasm is permissible I guess. So you are bit defensive of your roots huh?? Just a word BT and you get your guards up... interesting!! The I wll be extra careful while mincing my words. The knocking on my head (BMaj#) was during my hey-days. Definately not you. But its good to know that you are mellowing with age. After all, maturity is directly proportionate with age. Its ok if you meaow from time to time. One should have vent for one's voice (meaows in your case). Reminds me of macavity.... Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity For he's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square But when a crime's discovered then Macavity's not there! More from panorama.... If we meet again we shall smile............

Suna!!! Fantastic... One thing I missed while in darj was Toy Train ride. I use to get horribly sick in those Jonga, Willis Jeep, Singmari ko ambassador and Maruti van (with overpowering stench of perfum + petrol), but took it to be lesser evil then a whole journey up to the hills. But I did enjoy hanging at the back of Bada's jeep on the way to Silla. Amardeep ko Paratha and Ice-cream. Yummy. Ah I didn't catch the MBT qualification of Sangey. Maybe it's my nepalipan, that makes me a bit gullible. If only i hadn't fallen off that thattu ghoda. Pandra Tara... Glad it was not my syllabus. The khatas and endlesstwaksings were enough to make me forget my golden years. Natthu... any relation of infamous Natthu Ram Bhosle? What is there in Darj beside Chiyabagan? Good Question. First of all.. The GALS.... Ambo!!!!! Loreto ko "Bhola aloo kasto piro", english phatatatata phitne keti haru, St. Teresa ko sojhi keti haru.. MH ko mermaid jasti keti haru, SH ko Snooty Cows, Dowhill ko "Shot putt" jasto tigra bhako keti haru, Condi ko "Empty Rooms" suunne Rock Chiks... Phew. the whole menagerie is enough to make a grown man weep with excitement. Ani world famous chiya. Orane peko, Mango Peko, banana peko, Ambhotia Chiya... Did I mention Darjeeling Tea. Nothing like a cuppa Darjeeling tea to kick start a day. The daredevil jeep/maruti drivers. Once returning home for winter holls, this particular DUJU, was driving down the pankha bari like a Grand Prix driver. A friend asked him to slow down.... This driver or guruji as we call in nepal retorted "Bhai, I started driving way before you were hanging in your daddie's balls".. Witty? Humor? What else? The list could go on.....

So here I am looking over my shoulder at work being a big sneak kumar... teah ... teah.. teah. The knock on the head was just cause. I had to de-throne the alpha male (wink wink) and take my rightful place in the harem as an aplha male. On the process i took plenty of knocks, god knows where, but i did get that heavywight title. Alas, I lost that title to our pran bhanda piyaro bhai Comfu... I think I better switch my status to viewers mode before the the young blood, the angry young man (Amitab Bachan) Turns up!! If anyone here is in touch with Glenn Gardner, could you kindly relay this message to him: - Dorjee Lhatu had the most sarcastic wit - A chap from NP, Amitava Ghosh, proposed that in the event that one were lost in a forest, the solution was to tie one end of a long rope around his waist and the other end to a tree. That way, he wouldn't get even more lost when he wandered off. - That the rockclimbing instructor's daughter was a voluptuous tease End of message. Thanks.

Thanks.

Santosh Pantji, What a narrow vision, there is nothing of a citizenship identity or claim for greencard that dictates terms to participate in this forum (correct me if I am wrong). When it comes to love for motherland, language and culture, there is lot to learn from those Nepali which you are acusing of being out of your notion of being a Nepali. Tracing your own ancestrial root may also led to some otherplace than you actually think you are, so what is the fuss all about. Why can,t "Basudaiva Kutumbakam" be nice to those who may be geopolitically not within the frame of your term for citizenship but still keeps their roots in heart and cry to see the pain and suffering. They may not be lucky enough to express the solidarity but still cry in isolation when nation bleeds. Sorry for the emotional outlet, let us not be divisive but cohesive in pursuit of struggle to preserve our culture, identity and above all dignity of being decendents of the Bir Gorkhali's.

Thanks Santosh pantji, Mad max, don,t just look at the negative side, where does not it exists, even around ourn own neighbourhood. Yes, crowded, shortage of water are some drawbacks of Darjeeling, but what can surpass the morning view of Kanchanjunga, the tea garden, the Ghoom, Dali Fatak, monastries, the cheerfull people. And if you go beyond it, the green valley of Bhramputra, beyond the teesta, the nepali comunity of Assam, Meghalaya and the other sister states of North East. To be with the cow herding Nepali comunities in the remote jungles of the north East. It is a different experience altogether, hard to feel if no first hand experience exists. Anyway let us not just look at the darker side of life to make a conclusion, there is much beyond it.

Kalekrishna bru le last diyo hai... Applause!!!!! After reading your posting, 1000 watt bulb lit over my head. A bulb of clarity rather then idea. It is sad to see that most of our countrymen seem to have this xenophobic attitude towards our neighbours. Dhotis and Darjeenlingaes (& Bhutanese refugees). Is it xenophobia or ignorance? Are cow herding Nepalese community from Cities and remote jungle of North-East not quintessencely Nepalese? I do not know the answer but we do not need to go as far as Assam or Megalaya. How about remote places closer to home? Towns and villages spanning from Karkarbhitta to Mahendra Nagar. I, for sure have had this feeling of outsider looking in. Looking in the Valley. I just speak for myself and don't know about you gentle folks. Seems like, whatever there is in nepal, it is in the Valley. Oppertunities, facilities, amenities.......... They even speak different from the rest of Nepal. YA being the last syllable. As in "Bhanya". I wonder if anyone's noticed this before. How come 99.9% of students abroad are resident of the Valley? (minus proletarians). It is alarming that people of the Valley are blissfully unaware of this. A friend recently was on holiday back in nepal. She said she was shocked by the indifference of Valley people to events occuring in rest of Nepal. Is this the root of civil unrest in Nepal? Failure to recognize greater Nepal as Nepal? I do not know. I am still bitter about not getting that tub of ice-cream in my home town and endless twisting and turning of antenna to get a good reception of Krishi-darshan, while my peers from Valley enjoyed Bonanza. Moral of the story? Be aware, broaden the horizon, look at the bright side. P.s To the likes of MadMax

I was reading postings here in this thread but not regularly. Now what do I see is few "thekedars" of Nepalitwa have emerged. I would rather call that person Nepali and be proud of him/her who is not from Nepal but loves Nepal and Nepalipan than of him/her who is from Nepal but does not give damn about Nepal and Nepalipan. Nepal belongs to all Nepalis regardless of certificate of citizenship. No piece of paper can make one a Nepali or otherwise; it's the Nepali heart that makes one a Nepali - a proud Nepali. I don't recognize anyone as a "thekedar" of my country and culture. Just my thought. No one has to agree.

if any of you are coming to chicago for the convention this weekend, dont forget to make a beeline for the bar after the Saturday night concert. Hopefully there'll be enough of us around for a little impromptu Sajha after-party.

no, but i'm a friend of your chicago friend, who, of course, is from darj. The concert is featuring a few well-known nepali bands from all over the midwest. would be a shame if u guys missed it. And as they say in the travel circuit - you havent seen chicago if you havent gone drinking with the chicagoans. Ok, I made that up.... :)

there's a $20 non-culinary option that gives you access to the Saturday concert as well as the Sunday cultural program, not to mention the soccer tourneys.

Woah! U get right down to the point, dont u? I like that in a woman! Rest assured - your $20 investment will not go to waste. The best-kept secret in chicago is its high concentration of good-looking nepali men, and there's always that possibility that u might get more than u bargained for, which, i'm sure u'll agree, is not always a bad thing. As for pictures, well, some things r best left to one's imagination, or fantasies, depending on your current hormone levels, dont u think? And did I mention there's a concert too?

Ok..this is an official call for all wolverines, felines, equestriens (sp?), and maybe even a few humans out there to make your way to chicago this weekend for a trip back to our wild sides. Suna, how about i bring the whole army?

I was planning to attend the reception even till that day - it was a last minute change of plan. Heard good things about you. Why not meet at ANA convention? I hope Suna will be there too.
