NEHU = North Eastern Hill University..Offices just past Bada Bazaar, on the way to Mowprem, if I recollect correctly.

Anyone for taking them St. Mary's cuties for a walk to golflinks ? Boating aint too bad an idea either. Just steer clear of those Naga blokes from Happy Valley though.

Ruck, kong.. got kwai ? :)

My whole family is from Darjeeling. I was not born there but rest of my family were.
Mom is from Mirik and older sister was born in Marma.....
Love Darjeeling
KaleKrishna Posted on 05-May-03 09:30 PM

Sorry Czar,
NEHU office was in Barik, that later shifted to Mawlai.
Ruck, Bha kein, Khublai Shibun, Yes familiar with those schools, on both sides of Lady Hydry park.
Hoit Kein, Nga dei Shillong briew.
Nga umdon Kwai.
Yes, memories of past, lovely place, nature at her best, except for after the late eighties when those communal demons crept in the mind of simple tribal p-eoples.
Has any one recently been to Shillong, I was there five years back, lot have changed since I left in the first half of nineties.

nattu ,

ignorant u..darjeeling is not a remote place, but is frequented very much by noble kings to meagerly beggars, and between them too.

And the people are not funny but hard working, peace- loving simple- living people who actually speak nepali, and , i bet, know more nepali words than you.. not less..Respect people as you want them to respect you...

Any Darj educted bro/sis based in UK? For good times (langsa/phaksa momos/thukpas) ani Big talk........ :O)

I know few peeps from MH, Loreto, Dow Hill, & GMS here.
Suna Posted on 14-May-03 04:45 AM

ou812
There are some here. I hope they come out of hiding for you! :)

As for the big talk bro, the reason why I feel right at home here in sajha is that there are so many heavy weights with BT! We blend in so well, you wouldn't even notice us, except for the humjayega jokes of course!! :o)
ou812 Posted on 14-May-03 05:07 AM

Suna Bhanana!!!

Thank you for your promt insight of sajaha society. Do I detect a hint of sour causticity on your introductory line? Maybe am being touchy (apolo in advance if so!!).

Am glad you feel right at home here with all the BTs around. Good for you. Personally speaking, I have couple of heavyweight titles under my belt too. Had to take off my sparring gloves due to excessive and incessant knock on the head. These days I am but a mere spectator.

I just poked my nose in today coz of the word Darj. Sniff Sniff.. Memoriessssss all alone in the moonlight... All thats left in this brittle old age.

Peace
Suna Posted on 14-May-03 05:22 AM

ou812
:)
caustic ta alik heavy nai bhayo tara sano tino sarcasm ta chalihalcha ni hoina ra? Maybe I was being too defensive about big talk from Darjeeling!

"excessive and incessant knock on the head" - I can assure you, I wasn't the one knocking on that wonderful tete of yours. Aru nai paryo hola. I assure you I am mellowing with age but haven't stopped meowing from time to time.

Yea...memories of darj still lingers...moreso now than ever!!

ou812 Posted on 14-May-03 05:54 AM

Suna

Itsy bitsy sarcasm is permissible I guess. So you are bit defensive of your roots huh?? Just a word BT and you get your guards up... interesting!! The I wll be extra careful while mincing my words.

The knocking on my head (BMaj#) was during my hey-days. Definately not you. But its good to know that you are mellowing with age. After all, maturity is directly proportionate with age. Its ok if you meaow from time to time. One should have vent for one's voice (meaows in your case). Reminds me of macavity....

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity
For he's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity
You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square
But when a crime's discovered then Macavity's not there!

MunnaMobile, thanks for your ONLINE CHURPI offer but I rather stick with my traditional SUPAARI taking habit. I'm glad that you've got a mobile but just make sure that it works in Darjeeling though. What else do you guys have in Darjeeling besides CHIYAABAARI and what do you people do for fun there ? Let me guess, play HIDE & SEEK in CHIYAABAARI. Boooooooooooooooo !!
ou812 Posted on 14-May-03 06:33 AM

ou812 Posted on 14-May-03 07:10 AM

Suna!!! Fantastic...

One thing I missed while in darj was Toy Train ride. I use to get horribly sick in those Jonga, Willis Jeep, Singmari ko ambassador and Maruti van (with overpowering stench of perfum + petrol), but took it to be lesser evil then a whole journey up to the hills. But I did enjoy hanging at the back of Bada's jeep on the way to Silla. Amardeep ko Paratha and Ice-cream. Yummy.

Ah I didn't catch the MBT qualification of Sangey. Maybe it's my nepalipan, that makes me a bit gullible. If only i hadn't fallen off that thattu ghoda.

Pandra Tara... Glad it was not my syllabus. The khatas and endlesstwaksings were enough to make me forget my golden years.

Natthu... any relation of infamous Natthu Ram Bhosle? What is there in Darj beside Chiyabagan? Good Question.

First of all.. The GALS.... Ambo!!!!! Loreto ko "Bhola aloo kasto piro", english phatatatata phitne keti haru, St. Teresa ko sojhi keti haru.. MH ko mermaid jasti keti haru, SH ko Snooty Cows, Dowhill ko "Shot putt" jasto tigra bhako keti haru, Condi ko "Empty Rooms" suunne Rock Chiks... Phew. the whole menagerie is enough to make a grown man weep with excitement.

Ani world famous chiya. Orane peko, Mango Peko, banana peko, Ambhotia Chiya... Did I mention Darjeeling Tea. Nothing like a cuppa Darjeeling tea to kick start a day.

The daredevil jeep/maruti drivers. Once returning home for winter holls, this particular DUJU, was driving down the pankha bari like a Grand Prix driver. A friend asked him to slow down.... This driver or guruji as we call in nepal retorted "Bhai, I started driving way before you were hanging in your daddie's balls".. Witty? Humor?

What else? The list could go on.....
gorato Posted on 14-May-03 07:30 AM

Just that I just couldn't resist the temptation to participate in the thread about my alma mater. So here I am looking over my shoulder at work being a big sneak kumar... teah ... teah.. teah.

The knock on the head was just cause. I had to de-throne the alpha male (wink wink) and take my rightful place in the harem as an aplha male. On the process i took plenty of knocks, god knows where, but i did get that heavywight title. Alas, I lost that title to our pran bhanda piyaro bhai Comfu... I think I better switch my status to viewers mode before the the young blood, the angry young man (Amitab Bachan) Turns up!!

Am working on the second round of black juice..

czar Posted on 14-May-03 04:51 PM

If anyone here is in touch with Glenn Gardner, could you kindly relay this message to him:

- Dorjee Lhatu had the most sarcastic wit

- A chap from NP, Amitava Ghosh, proposed that in the event that one were lost in a forest, the solution was to tie one end of a long rope around his waist and the other end to a tree. That way, he wouldn't get even more lost when he wandered off.

- That the rockclimbing instructor's daughter was a voluptuous tease

End of message.

Thanks.

Another tragic Saga of Mid-life Crisis ;-)
Suna Posted on 16-May-03 06:43 AM

Nattu,
Define mid-life Crisis.
I would LOVE to hear your version of it.

Suna Posted on 16-May-03 06:45 AM

AND before you put your foot in your mouth, let me remind you that you are OFFENDING some people that you sweetly call dijju, hajur, dai, hajur..and all that crap by saying my comments seem to define MID LIFE CRISIS!
You see dear, there are others here who are my uncles, daju, bhaujus here ...
Don't say I didn't warn you!
Santosh Pant Posted on 16-May-03 11:18 PM

So how many people in sajha so called "Indian Nepali" I mean Citizen of India proclaimed theirself as Nepali.

If you really want to be a Nepali, Why don't you try to get Nepali citizenship?

Damn !! Subash Ghishing ko Lising pishinng !! ih ih ih ih ih ih ihihihih(Daant dekhaayera)
KaleKrishna Posted on 17-May-03 12:17 AM

Santosh Pantji,
What a narrow vision, there is nothing of a citizenship identity or claim for greencard that dictates terms to participate in this forum (correct me if I am wrong). When it comes to love for motherland, language and culture, there is lot to learn from those Nepali which you are acusing of being out of your notion of being a Nepali.
Tracing your own ancestrial root may also led to some otherplace than you actually think you are, so what is the fuss all about.
Why can,t "Basudaiva Kutumbakam" be nice to those who may be geopolitically not within the frame of your term for citizenship but still keeps their roots in heart and cry to see the pain and suffering. They may not be lucky enough to express the solidarity but still cry in isolation when nation bleeds.
Sorry for the emotional outlet, let us not be divisive but cohesive in pursuit of struggle to preserve our culture, identity and above all dignity of being decendents of the Bir Gorkhali's.
MadMax Posted on 17-May-03 06:39 AM

Darj people sux. Stupid accent and drug addicts, thats all its to it. Darj has been so dirty these days its not even worth a visit.
Santosh Pant Posted on 17-May-03 10:04 AM

Kalekrishnaji,

I agree with you "Basudaiva Kutumbakam".
kalekrishna Posted on 17-May-03 09:08 PM

Thanks Santosh pantji,
Mad max, don,t just look at the negative side, where does not it exists, even around ourn own neighbourhood. Yes, crowded, shortage of water are some drawbacks of Darjeeling, but what can surpass the morning view of Kanchanjunga, the tea garden, the Ghoom, Dali Fatak, monastries, the cheerfull people.
And if you go beyond it, the green valley of Bhramputra, beyond the teesta, the nepali comunity of Assam, Meghalaya and the other sister states of North East. To be with the cow herding Nepali comunities in the remote jungles of the north East.
It is a different experience altogether, hard to feel if no first hand experience exists.
Anyway let us not just look at the darker side of life to make a conclusion, there is much beyond it.
ou812 Posted on 18-May-03 01:34 AM

Kalekrishna bru le last diyo hai... Applause!!!!!

After reading your posting, 1000 watt bulb lit over my head. A bulb of clarity rather then idea. It is sad to see that most of our countrymen seem to have this xenophobic attitude towards our neighbours. Dhotis and Darjeenlingaes (& Bhutanese refugees). Is it xenophobia or ignorance?
Are cow herding Nepalese community from Cities and remote jungle of North-East not quintessencely Nepalese? I do not know the answer but we do not need to go as far as Assam or Megalaya. How about remote places closer to home? Towns and villages spanning from Karkarbhitta to Mahendra Nagar. I, for sure have had this feeling of outsider looking in. Looking in the Valley. I just speak for myself and don't know about you gentle folks. Seems like, whatever there is in nepal, it is in the Valley. Oppertunities, facilities, amenities.......... They even speak different from the rest of Nepal. YA being the last syllable. As in "Bhanya". I wonder if anyone's noticed this before. How come 99.9% of students abroad are resident of the Valley? (minus proletarians). It is alarming that people of the Valley are blissfully unaware of this. A friend recently was on holiday back in nepal. She said she was shocked by the indifference of Valley people to events occuring in rest of Nepal. Is this the root of civil unrest in Nepal? Failure to recognize greater Nepal as Nepal? I do not know. I am still bitter about not getting that tub of ice-cream in my home town and endless twisting and turning of antenna to get a good reception of Krishi-darshan, while my peers from Valley enjoyed Bonanza.

Moral of the story?
Be aware, broaden the horizon, look at the bright side.

P.s To the likes of MadMax
MadMax Posted on 18-May-03 06:56 PM

Yo OU812 you need to shut the F@#K up dude. Go take your doctory somewhere else. Stupid dumb bi@tch.
Santosh Pant Posted on 18-May-03 07:19 PM

OU812,

I agree with Kalekrishna's "Basudaiva Kutumbakam". But after your long preaching, I just wanna tell you " Goru lai jati dhoyepani gai ta huna sakdaina ni" ki kaso ? It doesen't mean we don't care for goru. If you got my point !!!!

Your writing has similarity to PP's.
kalekrishna Posted on 18-May-03 07:20 PM

Mad Max Bro,
what a way to refute charges!!!.
Why not use more sensible terms to defend your views and accept that Nepalipan exists beyond the veranda of your mansion in the heart of Nepalese regardless of where they exists.
kalekrishna Posted on 18-May-03 07:23 PM

MadMax bro,
What a way to refute a different view!!
It would have been more constructive and pleasent if your anger was diverted to back your view, which you have every right to hold and express.
Regarding Santosh pantji's comment, sorry being a dude I could not pick up what gai and goru were suppose to mean here.
josephite94 Posted on 18-May-03 08:54 PM

Mad max, Santosh Pant - I usually don't waste time reading postings of negative, bitter, lonely @##@'s like you, but Oh well this time I'll make it an exception, This is what I've got to say to you attention deficit disordered #$$#'s, create your own thread , this thread reads" any nepali people from darjeeling around here in USA not "Welcome ADD's"
MadMax Posted on 18-May-03 09:10 PM

josephite go preach that crap somewhere else.
Santosh Pant Posted on 18-May-03 09:13 PM

Madmax bro,

Josephite wasn't preaching, was bar*ing !!
tamarind Posted on 18-May-03 09:13 PM

Santosh Pant Posted on 18-May-03 09:17 PM

Tamarind,

Reality bites...for a while, but pretend bites for lifelong.

Mr. SP
tamarind Posted on 18-May-03 09:17 PM

Santosh Pant, you have a great comedian's nick , and yet you act like a $$$$$'in prick !!!
Santosh Pant Posted on 18-May-03 09:21 PM

You guys just can't pretend as Nepali. Be proud of yourself and your country (Bharat, Dhotiland) !!!

Mr. SP
tamarind Posted on 18-May-03 09:27 PM

you mean pretentious use of someonelse's name ......I get it
KaleKrishna Posted on 18-May-03 10:12 PM

Santosh Pantji,
again why the outbrust against whole comunity when you do not agree to some individual's view.
Rgerading "Bharat, Dhotiland"- then how shall you feel proud to reffer yourself as Yankee or something else.
You are disclaiming the legitimate right of Nepali cultural identity regardless of geopolitical location.
I appologize for initiating the thread if it is to end by exposing the narrow concept within us vis a vis how we look at role and responsibility of Nepali gene pool expressing in different phenotype under different external influences.
Suna Posted on 19-May-03 04:25 AM

hmmmmmm
yeeeeeeeeeeeee yo thread ta k bhayecha??? launa ni...kaslai k pir paryo?? ko marna lagyo?? kasai ko pran chutiyo hami darjeeling ko bhayera??
White people suck, black people suck, Darjeeling people suck............... this sux that sux... why don't you put forth an argument Santosh Pant and Mad Max and maybe we can have a discussion about it! The way you are voicing your opinion is ummmm not up to my par and I can't really deduct much from your comments.

If we did want Nepali citizenships, all we had to do was pay one of those hakims in charkal adda or those poor officers who get paid peanuts in the villages of jhiljhile, sunkhuwasabha, dhulabari, pashupati nagar etc.. Tara mailey sunya ta ethnic Nepali lai bhanda Marwari harulai dincha rey nagarikta - alik paisa dherai paucha rey ani!

All things aside...........ohhhhhhh sombey haru....kata harako???????? sabai??????? tarsera taaaaaap??

ou812 Posted on 19-May-03 07:32 AM

Bollocks!!! Lost my posting. Here I go again.....

MadMax, is profanity all you can muster? That won't do. You are the weakest link. Goodbye!!

SP bro, i wish the worl was simply black and white are you percieve it to be. Alas it isn't so. The analogy of "goru" is too weak. I suggest you reflect on Kalekrishna's "the legitimate right of Nepali cultural identity regardless of geopolitical location." The answer lies within. Kale bro hope you don;t mind me cut/pasting you lines. Copyright means right to copy re. ehehehe.... Grinnnn!!

Suna/bhanana yo thread ko paribanda le mera naya satru haru bayeka chan. (D'jango le marne bhayo)

ou812 was it kusume rumal or sighane rumal...hmmmm
SITARA Posted on 19-May-03 08:50 AM

So what's wrong with having been born in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Sikkim, Nepal or Timbuctoo?
Such animosity against people in general is unbecoming of those who call and consider themselves humanbeings...equipped with logic, reason and thought ( the only attributes that distinguish them from animals!). And, *we* have the audacity to call foul, yell racism and raise voice against "unfairness"....when we can't even be civil to people participating in the Sajha forum!!!
MunnaMobile Posted on 19-May-03 08:54 AM

Hoina Suna..Kina taap ra...I guess its wasn't worth responding. If stupidity keeps this thread going on I woudn't like to be the one holding either end of this thread.

Deep Posted on 19-May-03 09:33 AM

I was reading postings here in this thread but not regularly. Now what do I see is few "thekedars" of Nepalitwa have emerged. I would rather call that person Nepali and be proud of him/her who is not from Nepal but loves Nepal and Nepalipan than of him/her who is from Nepal but does not give damn about Nepal and Nepalipan.

Nepal belongs to all Nepalis regardless of certificate of citizenship. No piece of paper can make one a Nepali or otherwise; it's the Nepali heart that makes one a Nepali - a proud Nepali. I don't recognize anyone as a "thekedar" of my country and culture.

Just my thought. No one has to agree.

Did I unconfuse you??
:)

Munnamobile = axis of evil!
wanderer Posted on 19-May-03 11:27 AM

Had heard that such feelings of animosity existed but never really saw it in play. I guess the postings are a reflection of the underlying reality. Sad but true. The root cause I guess is insecurity- People who are not confindent are the ones who build fences- Forever trying to define boundaries, playing frivolous, juvenile games. All I have to say is Get a life! Broaden ur horizons. And if u really do need enemies look beyond the people who have the same blood as u do.
gorato Posted on 19-May-03 11:56 AM

Absolutely Suna!

WHOA!!!

This thread sure moves fast... must be the BTs.

Chitara it sure has been a long time since u've left the hills. A little refresher course for you. SJC in Kalebong, Durpin Dara is in Kursang, where broken hearted people take one way ticket free dive. The view of Kunchunjunga from there is sublime indeed.

Suna, Mike daju in Pedonh was chadai badai but I believe he was in Thimpu some years back. Don't ask me why or how. Ani Dali Phatak ko Rebecca Chettri ani Ghoom ko Julie Basnet chincha? Loreto products.

Muna bro, was very limited view on chitara's contibution to the sajha soc. You surely missed "Club Nite in DC, dressed to kill in Gap Jeans, T and Red Lipstick". Boy O Boy.

Gorato, do tak a dip in kaag Jhora next time u're there. It will purge you of your sinus probs. Siganey bro, timro lagi ta jhan salvation. End of sigan purgatory.

Wanderer wanna go on hartaal against tunnel visoned, insecure people? Karte Hobe... Karte Hobe.......

Suna you may be right..if one cannot be in da "Axis of Love" wots the best option left?

Sitara I agree..we do make our own Axis of "EVERYTHING" to suit our selfish goals. Btw I did miss the "dressed to Kill" party in Club Nite DC? as per OU812. If looks could Kill, then surely this is going to be a new form of modern warfare besides WOMD..hehehe Anyway would hv needed a F16 to make it from this part of da world to get killed.

OU812 tks for the picture..sadly the toy train is no more "Sano Rail". Today it is powered by deasel engine n roars more like those pre-historic dinosaurs, gone are those sweet whistles which echoed thru the mountains.
Dr. No Posted on 20-May-03 05:25 AM

joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 08:21 AM

If the Indira Tamang you're referring to is the same Indira Tamang I'm thinking of.. Suzanne Tamang's older sister, she was senior to me as was Suzanne.

sks Posted on 21-May-03 10:38 AM

if any of you are coming to chicago for the convention this weekend, dont forget to make a beeline for the bar after the Saturday night concert. Hopefully there'll be enough of us around for a little impromptu Sajha after-party.
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 10:42 AM

quite a few of us will be in Chicago this weekend.. but we really hadn't planned on attending the convention......

Suna, a quick stop perhaps before we paint the town red? All depending, of course, on how early we get out of dinner.
Suna Posted on 21-May-03 11:07 AM

hmmmmm sounds like a good plan. sks...you from darj??
sks Posted on 21-May-03 11:40 AM

no, but i'm a friend of your chicago friend, who, of course, is from darj. The concert is featuring a few well-known nepali bands from all over the midwest. would be a shame if u guys missed it.

And as they say in the travel circuit - you havent seen chicago if you havent gone drinking with the chicagoans.

Ok, I made that up.... :)
gorato Posted on 21-May-03 11:54 AM

Oh saathi amammamamaama, kata kata matra bhaune huh?

Memorial weekend ko laagi ta extra strength multi vitamins khanu parla justo cha.
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 11:54 AM

$50 to get in??? naahhhh..... would rather spend that on drinks... with or without chicagoans.
sks Posted on 21-May-03 12:14 PM

there's a $20 non-culinary option that gives you access to the Saturday concert as well as the Sunday cultural program, not to mention the soccer tourneys.
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 12:38 PM

sks, can we see your and your friend's pics first before we decide to invest $20 each? LOL.
gorato Posted on 21-May-03 12:45 PM

Joie le ta kada po diyo ta.....hehehehe!-
sks Posted on 21-May-03 01:17 PM

Woah! U get right down to the point, dont u? I like that in a woman! Rest assured - your $20 investment will not go to waste. The best-kept secret in chicago is its high concentration of good-looking nepali men, and there's always that possibility that u might get more than u bargained for, which, i'm sure u'll agree, is not always a bad thing. As for pictures, well, some things r best left to one's imagination, or fantasies, depending on your current hormone levels, dont u think?

And did I mention there's a concert too?
Suna Posted on 21-May-03 01:28 PM

hey sks..
ask major to be there and I'll bring a pack full of umm wolves??
:)
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 01:32 PM

Wolverines, my dear, wolverines.
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 01:36 PM

Sks, not sure whether I'm yet convinced or not. I'd say you're bound to be biased, being a Chicagoan et all. Tell me honestly, will an additional $20 be well spent on alcohol consumed BEFORE I come to this concert?
sks Posted on 21-May-03 01:49 PM

Ok..this is an official call for all wolverines, felines, equestriens (sp?), and maybe even a few humans out there to make your way to chicago this weekend for a trip back to our wild sides.

Suna, how about i bring the whole army?
Suna Posted on 21-May-03 01:54 PM

sks: I'd be just fineeeeeee by that..
say u!
can anyone ummm ummmmmmm dance??
Suna Posted on 21-May-03 01:56 PM

major is more than enough!!!!!
:)
aiyaaaaaaaa major ley marney bho!!!
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 02:01 PM

Oh shoot. Just as I thought. I'm going to take SKS's non response as agreement that a couple of drinks prior to the concert will help rose tint my contacts and dull the pain of meeting this 'army'.
sks Posted on 21-May-03 02:01 PM

joie, if i were u, i'd save that additional $20 for breakfast-for-two the next morning. or three. ;)
sks Posted on 21-May-03 02:01 PM

major got two left feet.
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 02:04 PM

Sks, how about we just pool our resources and call it an orgy?

two left feet = deal breaker.
Suna Posted on 21-May-03 02:05 PM

hahahahah!!!!!!
damN! u two
put up another thread!!

left feet or not...still mah man!
sks Posted on 21-May-03 02:08 PM

Joie, i can see that u're very well-read on economies-of-scale. As a host, i feel compelled to accept. hehehe....
sks Posted on 21-May-03 02:13 PM

suna, so u'll be the girl with the bloody feet? That should be easy to spot! how about u, joie?
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 02:15 PM

Sks, got my fingers crossed you'll be just as light on your feet as you are a gracious host. Those pre-concert drinks won't hurt either.
sks Posted on 21-May-03 02:24 PM

joie......ohhh, such modesty! I'm sure i wont need those beer-goggles with the likes of u and suna and the rest of the pack.

i'll be light on my feet if u'll be light on my wallet.
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 02:29 PM

Sks, my momma always told me... don't set yourself up for disappointment. Have no expectations, and you won't come crashing down to solid ground.

I'll make no promises to be light on your wallet, but a gracious host deserves gracious guests, so I'll promise to order the 2nd cheapest breakfast the next morning.
sks Posted on 21-May-03 02:47 PM

your momma sounds like a wise person! I'll have to consult with her before i go watch another matrix movie.

Modest AND considerate! Now what r the odds of finding both in one girl!
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 02:56 PM

My momma asked me to tell you: don't play with fire unless you can take the heat.

Go figure, but I've never searched for a modest and considerate girl so I wouldn't be able to give you the odds on that one. But I'm happy to meet a light footed, witty, gracious and somewhat cocky host.
sks Posted on 21-May-03 03:07 PM

cocky, eh? never been called that before.

I'll be standing next to the fire extinguisher.
joie de vivre Posted on 21-May-03 03:10 PM

Cocky's good. Cocky's a challenge.

A fire truck might be more helpful.
joie de vivre Posted on 22-May-03 07:27 AM

Suna, be prepared to pay up, you're gonna owe me 5 appletinis.
sks Posted on 22-May-03 09:04 AM

oh well, even after all that exhaustive cajoling and pleading, i wasnt able to convince u ladies to make it to the concert.....i must've lost my touch. I guess old age does that to ya!

But hey! what is this now.......irving park, u said? thats virtually a stone's throw from my place! Destiny....is that u calling? ;) should i be looking for the rowdiest group of people at the bar or the quiet group lounging in the corner?

And oh....while u're there, dont forget to try the Tibet Cafe.......the beef momos r to die for!

joie de vivre Posted on 22-May-03 09:37 AM

aawww, poor Sks. Cheer up, you haven't lost it all yet. The mere fact that we're inviting you to join us speaks for itself.

a stone's throw from your place huh? hmmmm, a home cooked breakfast sounds kinda good, doesn't it, Suna?

call it destiny, fate or simply opportunity knocking on your door but just look for the liveliest crowd with the potential of turning rowdy after a couple of rounds.

and beef momos??? SACRILEGIOUS!! a Hindu enthusing about beef momos?? Thank goodness I'm a non-practicing Hindu! So where is this Tibet Cafe?
joie de vivre Posted on 22-May-03 09:44 AM

Suna!!! I just read a review of the Tibet Cafe... even though the reivew isn't all that good, we've simply GOT to go there!! They've got Shya-Faley!!!!!
joie de vivre Posted on 22-May-03 09:45 AM

here's the link to the review... click on the Patron Review tab

sks Posted on 22-May-03 10:35 AM

u a non-practising hindu too? what a coincidence! if u do eat at the cafe, maybe u could let them know that SKS referred u to them......a free bowl of thuppa would be just the ticket for one of those lonely summer nights.

Is it just me or did we totally ruin this thread? my deepest apologies to all of u who may have had other designs for this thread.
joie de vivre Posted on 22-May-03 11:28 AM

small world isn't it. what're the odds of meeting another non-practicing Hindu in the US? you're angling for thukpa commissions from Tibet Cafe? well, I guess that's one way of getting out of cooking for yourself.

and no, we didn't ruin this thread, we just livened it up a little :) I'm sure lots of folks got a kick out of our exchanges.
sks Posted on 22-May-03 01:19 PM

after a cursory glance thru our exchanges, I just realized that some people might even think you were flirting with me! :D

joie de vivre Posted on 22-May-03 01:49 PM

Me, flirt? NOOOO!!

The same could be said of you. In fact, I think it's fair to say you instigated it, albeit subtly. Love the way you turned the table though and put it squarely on me. Nice :)
joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 09:57 AM

sks, you didn't tell us Tibet Cafe opened only for dinner. how disappointing... we weren't able to satisfy our cravings for momo and shyafaley.
sks Posted on 28-May-03 11:14 AM

awww.....thats too bad....and I was already making plans for my free thukpa! How was Joy Blue?
joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 11:39 AM

dunno. we never made it there... was having too much fun elsewhere. am assuming the same applied to you too? and your friend Major was supposed to show up elsewhere on Sunday night... heard he was dancing up a storm at the convention, two left feet or not.
Major Posted on 28-May-03 12:22 PM

JDV, you funny.. hahahahhaah
sks Posted on 28-May-03 12:34 PM

yes he was! And u should've seen the DhukurZ dance.......its the latest craze in chi-town!
joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 01:04 PM

I see Major has his priorities right... forget about a friend's wedding hai? he'd rather do the DhukurZ dance even after losing (miserably, so I hear).

:)
sks Posted on 28-May-03 01:15 PM

alrite, Major.....u're up for a major rebuttal....emphasis on the 'butt'...hehehe
joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 01:21 PM

sks, I wouldn't be so fast to put Major on the spot... the same applies to you too re the DhukurZ dance :)
sks Posted on 28-May-03 01:38 PM

Nope, it doesnt...I'm not in the team. Nice try, i'll give u that much.
gorato Posted on 28-May-03 01:43 PM

joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 01:45 PM

oh well, that was just a shot in the dark. Missed by a mile.

I have to say I was disappointed Major didn't show up on Sunday though... had heard so much about him - I'll let you two be the judge of whether it was all good or all bad :)

And I thought you were going to show up at Joy Blue, sks. Never mind that we weren't there... that's a whole different story.
sks Posted on 28-May-03 02:02 PM

whatever u've heard about Major, its ALL true. The man's almost a legend around here. And no, my picture's not on the website.

I thought u were going to show up too, with your entourage. I guess we're even. :)
joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 02:21 PM

a woman's perogative to change her mind on a whim.

any way I can cajole you to fedex me some frozen momo's and shyafaleys? I'll pay for them as well as shipping.
Major Posted on 28-May-03 02:39 PM

Comon JDV, you doing a great job making me feel guilty. I couldn't attend the wedding reception as I was injured during the game. I will definitely make it up to Suna - some how (dunno how). I was planning to attend the reception even till that day - it was a last minute change of plan.

Heard good things about you. Why not meet at ANA convention? I hope Suna will be there too. If you come to Chicago next time, will hook you with some good steamy momos.

SKS, thanx for the compliment. Only wish it were true :)
joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 02:49 PM

Major, whatever good you heard about me, it's all true. Self-promotion :)

What ANA convention? And yeah, if I'm in Chicago again, I just might look you up.
joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 02:51 PM

but in the mean time... momo and shyafaley? freeze? fedex? anyone?
sks Posted on 28-May-03 02:56 PM

just checked the fedEx website....apparently the following items r prohibited: blood, explosive materials, used socks, momos, and whaddya know, shyafalays!

Like Major said, I guess u're gonna have to wait until your next chicago visit. major, I'll bring the shyafalays.
joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 02:59 PM

Chivalry's dead.
sks Posted on 28-May-03 03:00 PM

chival - who?
joie de vivre Posted on 28-May-03 03:04 PM

apparently Chival-you and Major.
