A desperate Nepali family is asking for housing assistance in DC area. They are a family of 3 and are looking for 2 bedroom appartment or a house. Please advise on how to proceed in either renting a house or an appartment. The only problem is that they do not have SSN. Can they rent a place if they do not have any status? Please advise.

Tick ji: I know that renting has become tricky in the DC area. They can look up newspapers for apts or houses.... would be easier I suppose than formally approaching a rental company or apt/housing authority since they don't have SS number. However, can they show a bank balance in US and a job verification? But I would certainly start from subrenting (town houses, houses....where the lease owner is someone else) from the Newspaper ads. Goodluck to your friends!

helllo there renting apartments is not a big deal.........they do not ask your status but they might ask for credit history.........but if u dont have ssn .......there is no way u can have credit history. so in that case........they will ask for higher amout of deposit. As i ve just talked with one apartment office personnels about renting apt for one of my fren who has sem prob like yrs.......no ssn .......so they just told me that he needs to put on around 400 deposit.......thats it........dont worry.........go n talk to apt office......there is always some way to get through. guuuuuud luck....... peace out
