It was a Saturday morning and bhat with jimbule jhaneko kaalo dal, mula ko khadeko achar, and chamsur palungo and a glass (steel) of water were already in the stomach settling down. I was standing right in front of Bhuteswor with Amit. We got no specific agenda for the day. Though in the afternoon, dhara aayepachhi, jadale futeko hat khutta ma mailo bhariyera pareka kaala katla lai dallo sabun layera bhuse chuli ma halna lyako bhusle dal daal parera dhune karyakram thyo. Kuber was playing hwakryang behind Bhutesow. When we reached there to observe, his opponent filed for bankruptcy right then after losing all his guchchas and the last asset-a magnet. Kuber refused to sell the pangra at three.
Almal bhaira thyo. I asked Amite for some monetary help. He pulled out both of his front pants pockets. All that came out of those pockets were some bhatmas ra kerau ka bokra. Pachhadi ko khalti pani hat le pyat pyat pitera bhanyo "futya kaudi chhaina ma sanga". Who the hell was asking for a futya kaudi anyway? Shirt ko khalti chahi he didn't explore but I believed him. Saale! kun paisa hune manchhe ho ra Amite?

He knew it was quite risky and I didn't blame him.
Just then I saw Bisnu, hamro gharma kam garne keto ke ta Ramechhap ko, heading toward kotal tole. "ye ka jana la huh ta?" I asked. "Bekhalal kaha chini ra mattitel kinna", he replied. He then just looked at me and slowly moved on fat fataudai "asti pani firta aako paisa lagderaarkale yassai gaali khanu paryo kina deko bhanera---maile deko ho ra ni? Khosera lera ---aaja feri---aaja pani tyahi chyakhe rakhna lai leko ta hola ni--"He looked back at me. I was staring at him. Then he did not say anything, at least I didn't hear. He looked back at me a couple of more times to make sure I was not chasing him with a threat to him before disappearing in a galli. Yes in the past, I had lost few rupees in chyakhe -kisna mandir pachhadiko payako khal ma- but today I wanted the money for a pangra not chyakhe. It was useless to explain the reason to Bisnu. Also, there was no reason to explain to him anyway. Maile leko dui rupya tyasko ho ra?
I got the pangra. "Pangra kinya?" Parkase joined us with a question. "paach rupya ma kinya yelle" Amite said pointing at me. Aba gudaunu paryo ni ta. So, Amite and Parkase both went to get their pangras. Parkase ko saano ra thulo duitai khale cycle ko rim ko pangra thiye. He used to use small rim pangra if the destination is not extremely local. Tara tyai bhuteswor wari pari chahi kahile kahi tyo thulo rim ko bichma laththi rakhera khandryang khandryang gardai gudau thyo-tole ma pitch thiye na tyati bela. I went with Amit. Let's go to ring road, I said. We all left with our pangras. Kisna mandir bata dhunge dhara tira orlida bhane ali steep oralo ra ganthyang gunthung bhako huda taar ma hook garera hiniyo. We also used to come there to play table tennis once in a while on that cemented board just in front of the temple. Some broken bricks used to function as the net. Byat chai kahile kasaile lyaye sakkali ni bhetinthyo rubber bhako-kunai chiplo kunai dana dana bhako. Haina bhane rubber upkya byat ni chalthyo twak twak garni. Tyastai pare chappal le ni kam chalthyo tara ball bhane chahinthyo-substitute thiyena.

"yelle ta mattitel kinera lyako firta hijyak garera pangra kinyagaanth hune kurai chhaina"Amit looked at me and asked "ta sanga chha ta aru gaanth?". "kaha bata lyauni gaanth maile?" I asked back. With a crude smile, Amite said "kangalharu". I didn't like what he said but did not contest either. Parkase probably felt a bit offended and said, "ta chhas ni dhanadde" to Amit. "Timiharu jasto fogi ho ta, jogi haruma sanga ta chha ni" Amit said.
I didn't believe him because earlier he had said futya kaudi chhaina and also had shown his empty pockets. I didn't say anything but Parkase asked, 'ke chha ta sanga? Kati gaanth chha?". "Bis chha bis" Amit proudly said. I saw his eyes sparkle and thought may be bhate is telling the truth. "yi chha bis, parkas le zipper kholula jhai garyo.." But before he could do that Amit le switar bhitra haat chhirayera gulafi ranga ko bis ko note jhikera dekhayo. Parkase suspended then revoked the idea of pulling his zipper down. I got mad. "saale aghi dui rupya le bhanda ta chhaina bhanthis ta" I said. "Dui rupya ta chhaina ni-ke yo note lai das tukra parne talai dui dina?" Amite le furti garyo. "futya kaudi chhaina bhantis ta?" I was still mad. "chhaina ni futya kaudi tayo ta note tyo pani bisko __phutya kaudi ho ra?" Amite was riding high. Finding us both quiet, Amite looked at Parkase and said, " bhikhari". Parkase didn't say anything. Then Amit slided his bisko note in his pants back pocket and walked few steps to the side of the road and facing bhatkya pool su gardyo, maile ni garde. Parkase euta haat ma pangram arko haat ma narkat liyera bata chheuma thinga ubhiyi rahyo.
Ek chhin we didn't really spoke to each other then slowly started to talk. Amit said let's go to chakrapath (he was referring to that four way intersection-north to Budanilkantha, west to Balaju, east to Chabel and south to Mahrajgunj-paani pokhari. We-prakase and I- both refused. Amit le kapal kordai bhanyo, "chya khwaula timerlai". Then we agreed. Tyo ali partirako mod ma pugi se we could see clouds gathering and seemed like its gonna rain. "radi ko chhoro le ta byana mausam safa rahanchha bhanthyo ta". Amite jangiyo. " paani ke tyo mausam bhanne ko nokar housle parchha bhane parne pardaina bhane naparne?" Parkase commented. Amit looked at parkas-didn't say anything. Khali pyachcha thukyo.
Pangra gudaidai ek chhin aru hine si rain started to fall. Nithrukka bhaiyo. Didn't feel like pushing the pangra any more. Jado pani huna layo. Euta hat ma taar niskeko narkat arko haatma pangra bokera we were walking bhijdai. As promised, Amit took us to a restaurant-pasal for tea there in chakrapath. We sat on a bench and Amit ordered, "tin ta chya dinus ta sauni". Even though a bhus tigre sahuji was also chatting with sauni, Amit for some reason chose to address sauni. Bhyarrarraara garera dam dine stove chali ra thyo. Parkase looked at Amit and requested in melting voice "chana ra aalu ko tarkari ni khwa na yaar chiura sanga---ek dam bhok lagyo". Bhokle Amitelai ni majale hanisakya re chha kyaradid not say anything , just briefly looked at Parkase then at me. I also gave him "aashe look" as reply. "Teen plate tarkari ra chiura ni dinu ta sauni" Amit threw another order. I thought, "je hos---Amite is the best friend". It was still raining outside but the stove burning noise was killing that rainy noise outside. There were five or six more people in the restaurant including a kid and a woman. They all were looking at us. We probably reminded them "wet mice". We had gently kept out narkat with taar and pangra underneath the bench. Sauji brought tarkari chiura, and chya for us. Right before putting those stuff before us, he just gave us a sharp look. We felt a bit scared for a second then thought, "sittai khana la haina kehi hainagaanth tirera khane ho kyareke ko dar?".
We finished every piece of tarkari chiura and left a very little chya in the glass. It was only drizzling out now but jata tatai hilo bhaisakya thyo. Chiso ghateko thiyena baru thapiyeko thyo but since we were inside the restaurant and also had pacified our hunger and taste, we were feeling much comfortable. "Jam" I said to Amit. It was almost 4 O'clock. "Pyara tira bata jam hai yata dhumbarai ko gravel bato ta sabai hilai hilo bhako hola" Prakas said. No one countered. Amit got up to pay the bill. karmasa:

very nice! Sent me right back to my pangra-playing days! Your attention to detail has a way of capturing the reader's undivided attention.
I notice that you've toned down your use of expletives, at least on this piece. I personally think that the use of expletives, to a certain extent, gives your writings an authentic flavor.

I am typing the final part -right now - and post it before I leave for the day. [kam ma khali sajha ma ghumyo bhanera laat hanna ber chhaina aba ta].
I did not use any "M" words in this narration. Of course, we were heavy users of those words then. I couldn't type our conversation without writing "M" words but man nalagi nalagi delete gari diye. In honor of all those readers who prefer to read my narration without "M" words, I have taken them off from this piece.
Just give me few more minutes and I will post the final part.

Ramro deep. Hajurr ko lekh padera, malai mero bhai ko yaad ayo. Guccha, pangra....:-). Hajurr jastai usle pani chutti ko belama or after school khana-khaja khayepachi ghar bata gayeb, ani sajha kasaile gayera bolaunu parne, natra ta audai na-ayidine. Kahile kahi ta 5-6 jana messenger janu parthyo. Becoz of that my parents had to opt. for putting him into dorms. Now I understand what a different and fun life it must have been for him "pangra gudaudai-guccha kheldai." That was a sweet nostalgic reading :-). Thank you :-).

Sweater bhitra bata bisko note jhikna hat halyo tara rittai firta lyayo. Pants pocket ma hat halyo rittai firta lyayo. Hamro man ma chiso pasyo. I asked, "ke bho Amit?". "Khai paisa ka paryo ? yahi rakhya thiye" He again took his hands inside his sweater and brought out empty. Sauji was closely watching us. Sauni was also alert. Prakase may have noticed the heavy hostile air in the restaurant, "hya-- kich kich nagar na --- chhito jhik". Amit was shivering now and was madly running his hands from pockets to pockets. Hamra haat khutta feri chisa bhaye. We panicked. "paisa harayo jasto chha, yaar" Amit said in dying voice.
Just then Parkase undertook a self-destructive action and also put us (Amit and I) in severe danger. Parkas was standing left to Amit facing sauni. Sauji was standing right to sauni by that tarkari ko bhado. I was standing behind Amit. Parkase ran out of the restaurant. Sauji caught right on time by his kathalo and delivered a strong chadkan to Parkase's cold right cheek. Rankiyo Parkase ko gala. Situation was more threatening now. I was thinking "kya bawal---aba ke garne? bhada majhna laune ho ki---already dhila huna lai sakyopolice bolaune ho kika lanchha hola? Gausala ta tada chha? Talim Kendra lani hola---ghar bata aayera talim Kendra bata lanu paryo bhane ta!---yaso dim na ta bhaneni kehi chhainajyan ma bhijeko nagbeli butta bhako sweater baula halka udhrekobhitra shirt, khalti ma alikati masi lagya ghadi sadi ni chhaina-- zipper nera ko dhago ali kati udhrera euta tukro zipper dekhine pantsdhunga laat hanera agadi khuileko bhari jutta-- jhan pants dine ta kurai bhe napants diyera kattu mattai layera yo jado ma chakrapath dekhi ghar samma tamasa bhera janu satta ta baru dui char lat ra chadkan khana faida chhakhali pulis nabolye hunthyobaru parechha bhane gilas silas pani pakhaldimla aba ke garne ta---" I was still thinking. I heard Parkase saying in runche swar "tyasle khwauchhu bhanera lyako dai" Parkase was pointing at Amit. Amite sanga paisa thyo. We all knew-usle dekhako ho. I rememberd him inserting that rosy bisko note in his back pocket. "pachhadi ko khalti ma herta ramrari. Tyaile tyahi rakhya thyo" I said to Amit. He once again searched his back pocket and other pockets too but only took out kaiyo. Das choti kapal korthyo Amitetyai surma paisa kaha jharyo jharyo.
"Thyo dai paisabis rupya thyonapatyaye yiniharulai sodhnus na" pointing at us Amit gave his defense. Sauji threw his angry look at us and was still grabbing Parkas's kathalo. He did not say anything. Other customers also were watching this newly developing dramatic scene, which pretty much seemed like an "eat and run" act. " "bis ko note thyo saujikata jharyo jharyo---yahi khalti ma halya thyiye tapaiko masu khane" Now sahuji le ek chadkan layo Amit lai "sale anikalka kaalharuchiya chiura tarkari khayera pugena aba mero masu khani?". Sahuji jangiyo. Prakase was quick to evaluate the situation. He saw sahuji was no longer holding him. So, he ran away. Pasal-restaurant bahira chiplera ek slip hanyoluga khattam but he was quick to get up and ran again. He disappeared in no time. Parkase ta bhagyo. Amit was facing sahuji now. I looked around to see if there is any other way to run away from there. But the restaurant had only one entrance/exit. "Talai ma nangai ghar pathaidinchhu la luga fukal" Sahuji feri jangiyo Amit mathi. When Parkase had the first chadkan, I was still thinking may be Amite is kidding. But now when Amite also had chadkan and was facing serious situation of running home naked and still had not produced that rosy bisko note, I was sure he lost the note. He does not have the money. My heart started to sink. Adhyaro bhako jasto bho. "Kasto dasha lageko re chha aaja", I thought. "Gharma dui rupya firta aako paisa lageko bayan dina baki nai chhayaha yasto taaal pari sakyo" I was sad.
Amite le luga fukalna suru garne chhat lyayo. Cross arm garera pet tira bata sweater ali kati uthayo. Uslai sweater kholna dina sauji le hat matra ke hatako thyo Amit ran away. Bepatta bho. Now, I was the only person left from the "eat and run" gang. Ek man ta lagyo jod sanga roidimki ke ho? Feri laaj lagyo. Sakina runa. Tara dar chahi bhayankar lagi ra thyo. Sauji ma tira aaunu bhanda aghi nai I backed out and went to the other side of the tables to maintain distance with sahuji. I said, "tyasle paisa dekhara lyakomalai ke tha? tyasle paisa harayo bhanera---maile haina dai" Ma runa matrai baki thyo. A woman customer said, "bhaigo chhodinusaru duita bhagi sake---naike pani bhagi sakyoaba yallai matrai kina kei garnu?" I looked at the woman. Sachhyat devi jasto lagyo. "yai aaimale bachai de ni hunthyo bhanne aasa le feri tyai aaimai lai here". She was with another man a kid. Sahuji said, 'tyaso bhanera hunchha---aba yasle tirchha ni sabaiko---bhada majchha yaha aaja aba yasle---" Oho sabai bhage ma chahi aba yaha bhada majhera basne? What if Amite and Prakase deliver this news to others in the tole? "deep dhanna garera basira chha chakrapathko hotelma". "khattam" I was in terrible shape. That woman said, "ma dinchhu yo bhaiko paisachodi dinus". Sahuji kich kich gardai thyo and was not accepting that woman's proposal. I was pretty close to the door by now and since sauji was a little distracted from me and was arguing with the lady. I ran to the door, I was expecting sauji's hand grabbing my kathalo but I was out and free. Then I took off toward mahrajgung. Parakase ra Amit parkhi ra re chhan batama. Parkase ko luga ta khattambatama jamma bhako pani le ali ali hilo pakhalepani barbad dekhinthyo.
Ek chhin bhana bhan bho---heavily used manpari words to each other, kuro bhanda dher Ma*****, ra Mu** use gariyo got exhausted and moved on. Sabaika pangra ra narkat tyahi restaurant ma chhute. Afno aajai jhan kineko pangra. Pyara hudai shivpuri school then baluwatar Chinese embassay hudai bhat bhateni ani dhalku bhayera ghar aaiyo.
Amit and I were pretty close neighbor. When Amit ruwa wasi garna layo, I paid attention to what was going on. Malai ta lagya thyo---Usle kakako khalti bata bisko note byan jhyaap hanya re chha---kakale ghopte thunera danak didai thyo.
Gharma, angry eyes were waiting for me too, I noticed. "dekha jayega", I thought.

Deep, excellent story as always.
Tyo use of m words chahi ke bhanne aba...without them Deep ko katha nai padheko ho ki hoina jasto lagne..use garay offensive for some.
je hos thikai cha, pop-po quit..tip ko paisa teer bhanya jasto.

oh ho kasto lamo bhai sake cha bhakeko ko pul ko kura ta. Weekend ma sajha na hera ko ta ma mero retire hune bela bhaye cha. :-(

Tickdai le samjhayo...la...ho ho ma tyo munna lai ni chinchhu (sajha ma ta aaudaina hola ni tyo munna hai tick dai? feri "dai" bhanena bhanera mind garla ki bhanera ni...munnadai, sajha ma aaune garya chha bhane "dai" bhanya chha ani munna munna bhako tham ma dai dai jod.dai padhnu hai). Maile munna le bajako pani suneko chha. Aba tyo gahiro ghar ko PK ma padhne KT ko barema chahi kehi nabhanam hola---kura purano bhaisakyo haina feri khas bises bhako pani kehi haina.
Munna basuri liyera hinthyo ni hai---ahile jhal jhali munna lai basuri liyera hineko dekhi ra chhu.

Munna sajha ma aundaina hola. paisa kamaune dhun ma thyo ayele ke garcha taha chaina. munna lai dai bhaneyo bhane risaundaina, makkha parcha. munna hero thyo, kabita lekhne, basuri bajune, chitra korne sabai garthyo. sabailai chai bhandaiyna thyo. usko sabai hobby ko udeshya kt fakune thyo. wo bhi ek jamana tha, haina ta.
