Symbolic detention Bitter pill This refers to an article entitled "An end of an era" published in the Opinion page of TKP, dated June 11, 2001. The article seems to have been written by someone whose name is same as mine. But I have been receiving congratulations for having written that article, which I do not deserve. As you know, I am a regular contributor to your newspaper, but my areas of interest are confined to trade policy and consumer protection issues. Since these are the only two areas in which I could claim my expertise, there is no question of myself venturing into a completely unknown area. What surprises me the most is when one of my acquaintances called up your office today he was told that the article was written by Ratnakar Adhikari of Forum for Protection of Public Interest (Pro Public). This has put me in further trouble as there is only one Ratnakar Adhikari at the Pro Public, and its me. Earlier, I used to think that an esteemed newspaper like yours had a verification mechanism to trace the source of the article, as and when required. But not anymore. Therefore, I request you to kindly institute a system of verification of the source of article and advise your staff to act accordingly. This may seem like a bitter criticism, but taken constructively, these measures will only help enhance the prestige and credibility of your newspaper. Ratnakar Adhikari Pro Public Anamnagar
