Army irked by Opposition comments

The Royal Nepal Army said Sunday it is "ready at any time to protect the country's national interest, sovereignty, independence and the territorial integrity" on the fourth day of an indefinite movement against King Gyanendra.

The Defence Ministry and the Royal Nepal Army said in a communiqué Sunday their "grave attention" has been drawn to recent "objectionable, inhuman, rude, disrespectful and unbecoming" comments for sometime from leaders of political parties against the King who is the symbol of the kingdom's national unity and a center of faith.

The Ministry did not identify the parties but said they have been in the government in the past. The Ministry said such comments are coming at a time when efforts are being made to establish peace and tranquility in the country through peace negotiations.

The Ministry said such parties should instead be playing an "exemplary role in restoring peace and tranquility" when "some relief is being felt." Such utterances undermine the country's independence, sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the nation and create confusion, the Army said. nepalnews.com br May 11

I understand the political parties might be hindering the peace process but i don't like the way the RNA is sounding more like the american army.
>>>the King who is the symbol of the kingdom's national unity and a center of faith.
Everyone knows the King has been the symbol of unity but that doesn't mean he should be beyond suspicion. i understand the role of monarachy in giving direction to the unstable political scenario of Nepal at present but i don't agree that one should place the King above everything. If he is the symbol of unity and center of faith, he should be able to take criticisms and coem forward and answer them rather than have the Defence Ministry or the RNA scare the people who throw accusations.

King has time and again promised that he will hand the power back to the people once peace and sanity is restored in the country. He has said that he is committed to constitunional monarchy. Why is it so hard to follow? Why wouldn't people let him serve the country as he should, especially now that we are so close to solving the maoists crisis.

Political parties..you couldn't deliver to the country yourselves, neither would you let anyone. You are just pathetic!

The communiques issued by the RNA and the Ministry of Defense hint at one thing: the King bashing by the political leaders should stop. Now, anything wrong with it? No. The leaders, who assumed many responsible positions in the past number of times have now become totally irresponsible and have started to talk "anta-santa". sabai gadha netaharoo lai lagera thokna parcha..

IF jyu,

Agreed!

It is good to know that you and I think alike in so many issues.

tick,

I was thinking the same thing. Here's one interesting observation of this board:

People (well, let's not name any) preach democracy and fredom of speech and what not and when others express views contradicting them, they (some of the sajha posters) are too qucik to label them rightist, oppurtunist and waht not. So, these democrats here in sajha who are critical of the King for no reason whatsoever are no different than the Maoists, who do not want to hear/read/listen to others' viewpoints. As one of my sajha friends wrote a long time back, these are the democrats who "make the maoists proud". Come on, whee ind emocracy people object to others' opposing views? I guess, in Sajha.

Perhaps a coup is in the offings? It seems the Army is ready for it - all eyes are on King G now...

It is a typical nepali buddhijivi attutude, especifically those that are sympathetic to NC. There are people in this board that have close/very close ties to infamous corrupted GPK and others. It is no suprise that they want to see him suceed for them selves.

There are others that are sympathetic to NC without strong ties, most of it is ignorance. Some believe that NC is the only party that can save democracy since it is the "people" that elect these corrupted netas. My observation goes on and on. In a nut shell the people that have actively participated in nabisungh meetings are going to be biased for sure there are some that belong in that category.

As an educated and "sansar dekoho/suneko" manche haru, that is us, all of us that are educated aboard and either are in Nepal or abord can do point out that democracy is FOR the poeple, BY the people and TO the people. There is nothing that says it is For the party/netas, To the party/netas, by the party/netas. Once we get rid of the corrupted netas Nepal will be a beautiful place to live, once again.
