it is always fascinating when fundamentalists speak. Kathmandu Post reports about the chief of Bishwo Hindu Parishad, that seed-bed of communal strive in India, speaking against making Neoal a secular state. the extent of his bigotry is reflected in the sentence below: "He said that the Federation was aware of the press releases, issued by the Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist (Revolutionary), major political parties and the Janajati Mahasangh, calling for Nepal to be declared a secular state." when a revolutionary force AND major political parties are calling for the same change, the fundamentalists will have it their way, and wave their tridents at the face of change. Sweet! this will make for some drama, won't it? how willing is the Nepali state to accomodate the views of Hindu fundamentalists? is the Hinduness of Nepal exaggerated? Secular, or Hindu? how should things be?

Has anyone noticed how active the Hindu extremists have been getting in Nepal since the new King took over? Maybe King G is impressed by how fruitful Hindu fundamentalists have been in maintaining the Bharatiya Janata Party in power. Judging by his trips to temples in India (and sacrificial offerrings which really pissed of the animal rights groups in India) , he is going to try is best to stop Nepal from turning into a secular state. After all, he is a direct descendent of Bishnu. The hindu fundamentalists take pride in the fact that King G. is the only hindu king in the world and praise him lavishly. They probably envision a Talebaneqe rule in Nepal, a sort of Ramrajya with all its baggage. I wonder what is the stance political parties of Nepal about this. As far as my understanding goes, the left wants to see a secular Nepal. I'm not sure what NC/RPP think. It would be interesting to know.

i agree that the vishwa hindu parishad is a manifestation of hindu extremism...but there is nothing fundamentalist in the argument that nepal should not be secular...i think it is in nepal's national interest to remain a hindu state...

How is alienating her millions of Non Hindus by declaring her Hindu Kingdom in Nepal's best interest? Declaring Nepal a Hindu Kingdom shows extreme lack of respect to the minority religious and atheist groups of Nepal.

Budhist ra Christian states ta suniya chhaina ahile samma...tara just because some have Islamic States, and one has Jewish State, doesn't mean that having a Hindu state is right for us. I find it irksome that any state should be associated with any particular religion by the virtue of it's constitution, be it Islamic, Jewish, or Hindu...or anything else--it limits the scope of freedom of religion, and the rights of people belonging to other religions.

Nepal is hindu country but, 1. budhha jayanti is national holiday. 2.scatter muslim population in terai have no intention like ayodhya kanda. 3.some catholic nepalese are still celebrating durga puja. 4.buddhist has every right to conduct their religious faith in their own way. The,maoist 40 demands says NEPAL SHOULD BE SECULAR STATE.there is no impact on daytoday life from the religion activities in nepal whatsoever even after being a only hindu country in the world. We can see in india people dying in the name of religion.mass violation in the name of religion in the name of religion. a) mus-christian conflict in indonesia b) mus-hindu conflict in india c) mus-jew conflict in palestine and isreal atleast nepal is peaceful in the religion activities then those listed countries.Yes, hinduness is exagerrated.Czar in russia were to be in the same place of king G i.e.. incarnation of god and all that (ligitimacy). To chnage this system there should be the change in history like KMarx said.But... comparing with all political parties yes, this is a drama. where were those parties when the same demands were oppressed by their administration..?

Very interesting subject, wish I had more time to discuss this, but could not resist cutting and pasting a quote from one of the historical figures I admire, which might be relevant: ===================================================== Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God; that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship; that the legislative powers of the government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should `make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between church and State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore man to all of his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties. - Thomas Jefferson ===================================================== Pakkai pani Jefferson's momma raised no fool.

Another one from IF >>If there can be ISlamic, Buddhist or Christian states, then whyc an't we have a Hindu >>state. What do you have in mind IF? The Iranian style theocracy or the Saudi Dictatorship, or maybe Israeli style trigger happy terrrorist state. I know of no Islamic/buddhist/christian states that does not tyrannise the minorities. Even the peaceful Buddhist folks got blood thirsty in Sri Lanka after they let politics and state muddle with religion. No IF, you can't have a Hindu state because there are a lot of Non-Hindus in Nepal and Nepal is their country too.

well if jyu, I believe you know that.If some reason turn you aside that could be the ahem ahem so called good attitude towards the own religion but these days this idea is not popular.wide world has the wide view.If the person like you stomach this things than what lesson do the learners like us will learn..? someone directly attacking the person doesn't help as well but i am in illusion sometime when the weather prediction goes wrong.
