PREMpujari Posted on 15-May-03 12:28 PM

Hmmm!! Watched it!!

Is it better than the first one?
Well, I think, If you haven't watched the first one, then make sure you watched the first one first and understand it (I didn't understand the first part when I watched it for the first time). It will make second one "piece of cake" to understand if you understand the first one. I understood the second one in a first watch (uhh... well compared to how much i understood the first one when I watched it for the first time). Am I confusing you? ehh...

Compared to the first one, second one is not better. Because the first one was uncomparable, an unique, innovative, first of it's kind. Those 360 degree slow motion and still shots, the slow motion bullet, Breathtaking action sequences, the cool look of the first part were classic. Does that make Second part not worth watching? HELL NO!! Action sequences in the second part look more like an extention to the first one, but they are worth biting a nail for. Neo fighting with 100's of Mr. Smiths (oooh), and the thruway action sequence are one of a kind. Never seen before. Neo is more powerful, and Keanu Reeve's rocks as Neo.

Besides action, there is one erotic Trance sequence. Ummm.. I loved that scene in slow motion -- captures the moment of woodstock. That scene is sexy. And Neo meeting the prophet -- where the prophet gives an eye opening (if the first part was logical for you) logic to life and stuffs (hehe) like that. On being asked by Neo what should he choose, the prophet answers something like "You have already chosen what you want, you are here only to figure out what you have chosen" ehh!!

Back to the original question, OF COURSE IT IS WORTH A WATCH or TWO or MORE!!
I might go watch it again!! eheh...

The only wish after watching this movie: I wish the director duo (forgot their name) who directed Matrix, would direct "The Superman". It would be cool.

Yeah, and make sure you stay until the end of the credit... ehh they show the preview (never seen before) footage from Matrix Revolution!!!

Can't wait for November...uhh.. the concluding part of "The Matrix" -- The Matrix Revolutions.

Go for it!!! ;)
Nepali Kanchi Posted on 15-May-03 12:30 PM

I saw "Reloaded" last night . Ke bhannu.........
There is a multitude of intense visual effects and a plethora of mind-blowing dialogue. There is more of both than in the original movie, You'll walk out of the movie with probably more questions than answers, but rest assured I'm sure these questions will be adressed in "Revolutions" in November. I dont want to give away any spoilers, but if you have nay questions or confusions about the movie, email me and maybe we can straighten them out. I got a pretty solid grasp about the movie's plot.

I highly reccomend it.

Nepali Kanchi Posted on 15-May-03 01:13 PM

Prempujari ji,
The trance sequence does remind one of the Woodstock festivals. However, the orgins of such festivals are much older. The scene is more represenative of Dionysian festivals depicted in Nietzche's Birth of Tragedy. Nietzche argued that only through one's immersion in the Dionysian essence of Primordial Unity that redemption from the suffering of the world could be achieved. This Primodrial Unity was achieved through song and dance. "In song and dance man expresses himslef as a member of a higher community; he has forgetten how to walk and speak and its on the way toward flying into the air, dancing. His very gestures espress enchantment."

The Wachowski brothers are huge followers of philosophy and Im sure that scene was created with Dionysian celberations in mind. The arguments of salvation are closely related to the philosophical tones mentioned in their movies.

That was definately my favorite scene in the entire movie...so human.....

utopian Posted on 15-May-03 01:25 PM

Watched both of them last night. I liked the first one a lot. Second one was so so.

Don't get me wrong. I still recommend the Matrix Reloaded. It is definitely reloaded with tons of special effects, cool martial arts and better presentation techniques. However, it surely lacked the interesting plot, surprising situations and philosophical values Matrix (Part I) offered.

Special effects were mostly spellbounding, especially the Neo vs multiple Agent Smiths' fight and the semi truck fight sequence. It was refreshing to see new characters and Zion.

Sad part is there was no closure to the movie. Maybe we are supposed to watch Matrix: Revolution (Part III) thats out in November, in order to totally comprehend it. Thats something I hate in todays' movies, that commerce takes over art, hence, the next one is already planned or even shot, as it is in this case.

Overall, it is worth a dekko, just for the visual stimulation if not anything else, even if you are not a Matrix fan. My word of advise is, though, watch the first part before you watch the Reloaded version. For Matrix fan, its a ton of fun.

I loved the first one, can't wait to watch the reloaded.
sixx Posted on 15-May-03 01:33 PM

Thanks guys!

I watched X-1. Didn't make any sense to me. I thought it was just another one of those action-packed movies. Ain't really looking forward to watching X-2.
I hear the action sequences in "Reloaded" are just mind-blowing. I'm looking forward to watching Reloaded.
I guess Arnold wasn't too serious when he said- "I'll be back!". It took him over a decade to be back. So, i don't think T-3 is gonna come anywhere close to "T-2" or "T-1".

anyone wanna share their views??
bhedo Posted on 15-May-03 02:44 PM

The first one really left me with a dazed state of mind because the storyline worked on multiple levels; it wasn't only a hitech fistflinging rampage. Yes, the plot was philosophical. How are to know that our senses aren't being deceived, and our world is real? Yes, it is a rhetorical question, and thereis no clear cut answer. For instance, isn't there an iota of possibility that a vicious doctor is controlling our brain and manipulating our senses for his own personal entertainment?? We can't really tell, right? But our senses are the only tools we can rely on to make "sense" of this world, even though our senses themselves might not be correct. Aside from that, Matrix was also set in future earth, where the machines have managed to gain control over humans. Also, I guess it had a fairytale touch to it, the climax being inspired by Sleeping Beauty.
Having said that, there is no way, in my mind, although I haven't seen Reloaded yet, that the second part could be better than the first plotwise, but it COULD be better actionwise, judging from the trailor.
But hey, Reloaded is the only decent movie opening this way. But I am looking more forward to Jim Carey's Bruce Almighty. I bet it's gonna be hilarious.
khimu Posted on 15-May-03 02:55 PM

the movie i watch ten times heres a list

matrix, Xman, harry potter both(part 1/2), fast and the furious, titanic, terminator both, robocop 3 of them, preditor, bloodsport all of them(1,2,3,4), impact, swear ya mummy 2 ,

I had more fun reading your comments about the movie than watching the movie itself. I do not know which is more complicated - the movie or your intrepetation.

In any case, anyone got the program for the dessert?

dangggg Posted on 15-May-03 09:57 PM

Is parijat in here????
pizzah Posted on 16-May-03 01:36 AM

too much special effect and i think too much of anything is not good, the plot is not as strong as i hoped it would be, Matrix 1 had a much balanced ingridients to it than this one, matrix 1 i thought had much more intense gripping effect on the viewers and the idea behind it was totally new then. This story now seems to be going back to what we have already been through..rebels against the much stronger ruling faction ( now where did i seem to hear that before?? hmm star wars??) i think the special effects on the freeway chase was great....other than that the bullshit story line is just pissing me off ..just thinking about how much i waited for the relese of this movie. Neo seems to be doing some supeman tricks flying around, i would rather have enjoyed watching superman instead. At the end the director somehow seemed to run with the story line to make a quick end to it. And i don't even want to start with the "KEY MASTER" stupidity. (Neo dies and he wakes up again all coz of Trinity ...Trinity dies and then she wakes up again coz of NEO ....Question: so what did Neo say to Trinity ?
Ans: two - one) All in all my final verdict pf this movie is it might do good on the box office but i still think it would've been better if they had a much stronger story line.
OUT OF 10 stars: ***** to MAtrix reloaded.
Kale_Ko_Chartikala Posted on 16-May-03 06:19 AM

If you guys ask me, X1 was a movie. X2 has become a videogame!

PremPujari Posted on 16-May-03 07:05 AM

Nepali Kanchi jyu,
>>Im sure that scene was created with Dionysian celberations in mind.
You might be right. The moment I saw that scene, my mind flew back to Woodstock. Rain, booze, music, slowmotion, crowd and sex. uhhhh.. ;)

Worst scene though (According to Me): when Neo kisses Persephone (Monica Belluci). Wasn't that scene supposed to be the best kissing scene ever -- the passionate one? Kiss that could melt Persephone to change her mind? Neo kisses her, and Persephone doesn't like it -- Cool. Then Neo takes off his matrix sunglass and I was rooting for Neo -- "Go Neo Go Neo", and he -- One of the good looking dudes in hollywood with his matrix looks and Monica Belluci, The sexiest french sultry icon; and they kiss urghhh -- disastrous.

And when Neo fights with 100's of Smiths, in some of the frames Neo looks more like computer animation for a cheap video game.

Bhedo Bro, Pizzah bro;
There was no way the second part was going to be any better than the first part unless they came up with brand new innovative ideas. while they used that 360 degree still photography effect in the first part, second part would be better than first if they came up with something new. Probably, they have saved those ideas for some other movie, but Matrix. They have to survive after Matrix, don't they?... and Matrix was already popular. hehe. So, they probably opted for the old fashioned action sequences like Freeway chase, and created it using all the techniques they used in matrix 1.

But Matrix Reloaded was worth a watch, zillion times better than "STAR WARS"'s last installment!! ughh.
bhedo Posted on 16-May-03 07:43 PM

Hey, I just came back from watching the movie, and I must say, damnnnnn, that was one heck of a wild ride. This one was sooo much better than the first one; the storyline is much more complex and the action scenes I would say are comparable to the first one. What's interesting is that I see Matrix Reloaded having some religious connotations--the second coming of Christ or whatever Christians call it. Also, as they said it, everything has a purpose. If you keep that in mind, then yes, it was damn good. It is definitely not for the shallow minded. It's very philosophical. I loved the dialogue between the oracle and neo, and the explanation as to why some people claim they see zombies, ghosts, whatever. Although, the movie did start out a TAD slow, the climax will leave you awed. I definitely can't wait for Matrix III to come out. Remember, EVERYTHING HAS ITS PURPOSE.
bhedo Posted on 16-May-03 07:46 PM

Well, Agent Smith is independent now. He can multiply because he is a virus. Remember, this is a computer world. When Neo messed up with Smith's system in part I, he was no longer controlled by the program.
Nepali Kanchi Posted on 16-May-03 08:36 PM

Prempujari Ji,

I definately agree with your comments about the Burly Brawl scene. I wouldn't mind it so much , but the producer, Joel Silver, really hyped that scene. Saying it would be a radical development in CG. The scene started off really well , but towards the end Neo's face looks like a "video game."

While we're knit picking , the scene where Morpheus pulls out the sword from the trailer to battle the agent is inaccurate. When he first stabbed the sword into the trailer to freeze hand to pull up the key-maker, he embedded the sword in the lower half of the truck. he later pulled it out from the top portion...

By the way, went to see it again today! I missed the trailer for Revolutions...

bhedo Posted on 17-May-03 06:01 AM

Yo Nepali_kanchi, what did you think of the ending? Do you think Zion is also a part of the matrix, created as a buffer zone in order to keep stray humans/anomalies in check? Without giving too much, Neo opted for the other door, which his predecessors didn't go for, and it also might show that Neo has defied all sorts of checks created in the matrix. However, we should also realize that Neo himself is partially a machine, and it might be that he is now more knowledgeable of his machine part. That could also be the reason why he could do those things in the end. It used to be that in Matrix I, humans were controlled by being incorporated into the Matrix; the codes didn't incorporate themselves into humans. Not so anymore. Agent Smith, another guy who keeps defying all checks, since he is a virus now, is controlling a human being. Smith, being a code, knows more about what the machines are contriving, and that's why the climax of the movie happened that way. This again points to the fact that "humans" in that movie are also machines.
SITARA Posted on 17-May-03 05:21 PM

Just came back watching!

Hehe Kanchi!

...I like the Dionysian theory in effect...in the trance sequence...Nirvana-esque eh???! Most certainly followers of Bacchus, although I did not see any wine drinking there... or did I miss it? Were they( the people) drunk on Morpheus's words... climactic fear of the end, a celebration of an impending calamity or just a contrast of a sensual source (evolution) to the theme of Matrix where the storyline is founded/ grounded and operates on programming and computers!

I loved the action and the dialogues. No man is free... he is bound by purpose! The theory of Determinism where every action is a result of a series of preceding actions... an important concept in physical science today.... and residing on the Newtonian model of the universe as a billiard game. I found the interplay of logic and reason in the dialogues extremely scintillating. However, the anomalies resulting (Neo, Oracle...) seem to be created out of Chaos... unwanted randomness! My musing... "Could the theory of predetermined actions be refuted by probability...kind of like the butterfly effect... where it is mathematically deterministic but impossible to predict ?" And was that why the Architect was at a loss as to the anomaly in Neo?

On dialogue: Wow! Reminds me of dialogues spoken in logic and Truth Tables....If and Only If...

And what about the parallel thoughts running on destiny/fate and determinism????

Hehe!... I think I was thinking more than watching the movie...now, I am thunked out!!!
serendipity Posted on 17-May-03 06:23 PM

It has very little similarity to Dionysian festival because Dionysus, according to Greek mythology is the God of wine. There was no bacchanalia involved as far as I could tell. So to me, it was hedonism intertwined with fear of impending apocalypse combined with retrogressive path that humanity had taken. The technology in Zion, the last bastion of free humans not under control of the machines, might have been out of this world, but the way of life almost had a neolithic feel. This is understandable because Zion had to be constantly looking out for surprise attacks by machines.
As was said in the movie, everything has its purpose. But this applies more to the codes than to humans. The Keymaster(a code) is there because he has the key to the architect. The Oracle is there because he directs the One(Neo in our case. Notice the anagram--Neo can be rearranged to One. This must be an allusion regarding Neo being the One) to the architect. And the agents are there to prevent stray humans, and codes alike from creating havoc. There are two sorts of humans in that movie: first, those that the machines feed on, and second, the free humans, the constituents of Zion. For the former, their purpose in life is to simply be thralls to the machines, and for the latter, their purpose is to defend and counterattack against machine aggression. The architect is looking for an infallible program with no flaws whatsoever. It is the sixth version of the Matrix code that he has put into action.

Also, as it appears right now, the Oracle was a LIE, merely another program designed for checks and balances; in other words, Neo might not be predestined to be the savior.

There are way too many questions that need to be answered by the upcoming movie, Matrix Revolutions, and I reckon that I rather not muse on the words of the architect. He was very ambiguous. The final installment will clear all murkiness.

And as it has already been pointed out, Zion itself might be a part of the Matrix that the program uses in order to contain renegades. The councils seem to be very senile, because they were probably chosen by the previous "savior" when Zion was reformed after similar events took place--23 individuals, according to the architect. The same fate cannot happen at present because Neo's choice( choice is reiterated oft times in the movie, the most important being Neo's decision to take the right pill in Matrix I) was to save the woman he loves so dearly.

Nepali Kanchi Posted on 17-May-03 08:01 PM

Bhedo ji,
I hope that it wont be a matrix within a matrix ending. Read below for what I do think the ending will be.

Sitara ji,
Definitely agree with most of what you say. For dialogue about determinism I thought the scene with the Merovingian is the most noteworthy. You are right that, most of the dialogue throughtout most of the movie, however, seemed to have been written with mathematics and logic in mind.

Serendipity ji,
Although Dionysus is most commonly known as the god of wine, he is primarily the Greek god of ritual dance and sacred mysticism, of death and new life. Furthermore, I was writing about Nietzsche 's depiction of Dionysus( and Apollo) in his "The Birth of Tragedy." If Nieitzche is famous for one thing, its his historical philosophy of the Greeks. Therefore, because "wine" was not present at the festival scene has no impact on its relevance to Greek mythology.

Ive come to think of the scene in other terms since my original posting. It may have been simply a battle dance. Native American and African tribal dances before warfare exemplify such ritualistic celebrations before battles. It would perhaps also explain the drum beat that was being played.

I still think the symbolism to Nietzche is more what the writers had in mind, however. They are, of course huge followers of Nietzche. And its hard for any reader of Nietzsche to watch that scene and not think of the "Birth of Tragedy."

Also you are correct that this is the sixth version of the Matrix that the father and mother of the Matrix has implemented(the Archtitect and most probably the Oracle respectively.) However, this version of the one(yes, an anagram to neo that has been spoken about for four years now) is fundamentally different. This "one" is now in love. The first matrix was dependent on love(Neo's rebirth or transformation to the one was caused by Trinity's love) and Reloaded is no different.

In Reloaded the Architect told Neo himself, that his love for the human race was more specific than his predecessors. Hence, the difference is Neo's love for Trinity. I think and this is purely speculative, that the Oracle(or mother of the Matrix) has undermined the Architect. The Architect seemed somewhat intigued-although not surpised- by Neo's difference to the other ones. He did acknowledge that the mathematical anomalies that complied to form the "one" made each of the "ones" distinct. However, the Oracle knew Neo would be in love. She prophesized to Trinity that she would fall in love, and her love would become the one. I think somewhere down the line the Oracle become distressed with her and the Architect's control of the human race. She was origianlly a program to investigate the human psyche. She must have found out that love is a human emotion that is boundless, limitless and unpredicatble. An emotion that may prove stronger than the controlling matrix program. She must have slipped one by the architect here, although the Architect did know what Neo's choice would be, he does not know-although the oracle does- what that choice will evenutally lead to. The destruction and eventual cooperation between the machines and the humans. The oracle says "Were all here to do what were all here to do. Im interested in one thing, Neo: the future. And believe me, I know, the only way to get there is together." I think the Oracle has her reasons. Reasons that I will discuss later since this message is running too long........And I'm also "thunked out"

I didn't really visit sajha for quite some time, and I totally forgot about this thread. Nepali kanchi ji, you are such a prominent writer, the way you talk about details is amazing.

Okay, I watched it again, missed the trailer before!! ;)
Like Sitarajyu said, First time my mind was really somewhere else, was thinkin' about the movie!!! So, I watched it again!!

I watched it again for the third time yesterday, ehh!! This time, for the sake of soundtrack. I really enjoyed the Matrix reloaded soundtrack. And since most of the action are choreographed on the soundtrack, It was like watchin' a music video. Try it, eh!! It's fun.

Saw The Matrix Reloaded today.. first day, first show.. cool movie.. am going to see it again tomorrow and maybe again day after tomorrow. I loved that neo beating Mr.Smith (s) in the park.. that was something..and i am going back again to see that scene...

The movie is quite impressive effect-wise. A must see summer movie. damn have to wait till november to watch the last of the Matrix series.

hey iso-freak
when i went in to the theatre to watch matrix reloaded, i had lots of expectation. after seeing it i felt the price i paid was not worth it.
the genuinity, creativity and impact created in my mind by matrix 1 comes flat in reloaded. one thing which i had in mind when i had seen matrix 1 was, how the hell a person could imagine such a story and present it in a such a vibrant way.
talking about matrix reloaded i was pretty much disappointed. the first dance scene in zion is so cheesy. the sex scene between trinity and neo is unnecessary. the bullet time has lost its charm. except some good scenes like car chasing matrix reloaded is far far away to compare from its prequel. the tempo of the film is so flucutating that i almost got asleep once. the phylosophical scenes are exxagerated.
the wait for the fianl revolutions makes me feel that the business and money has taken over the creativity.
may be i had high expectations??

piro sauce :-),

wait till i comemnt on this. i think you have raises some genuine concern but.. today i just paid attention to the action scenes. the one at park.. neo and 1000s of mr. Smith is still playing in my brain..tomorrow, i'll pay more attention to the story and other things...but, if you ask me, itf its worth watching it.. I say.. YESSSSSSSS.. why not? 2 hrs of pure entertainment..
