Indianapolis Two dudes from Alabama decided to move to Minnesota, MN after hearing quite a lot of good things about that place. One of the dudes bought a car too. So, they were all set to head there. Neither had driven long distance. So, they had plenty of questions on how to drive without being lost and what are the things they need to consider and so on. Their friends were pretty generous on giving advices (did not cost a dime). It was sad to see them go for other dudes stuck in Alabama the beautiful. Dudes left for better future in MN, anyway. Few days later, they called back to their buddies in AL and said it was fun driving and the place is awesome. They encountered no major problems on the road and they are happy in the state of thousand lakes. In the coming days, they kept calling their friends in AL and each time they sounded more disappointed. Their complains about things grew but centered in one point "kamai payena ramro---ani jaado pani dhun dhan re chha". AL friends were listening jado ko guff a lot. One day after few beers, one of the AL friends said, Winterma Minosota ma jado nabhara ke ghan** hunchha ta? Jado jado bhanera wakkai pari sakyo". One evening over the phone AL to MN dudes confessed they can't stay in MN anymore. "This place sucks" they declared. AL friends suggested, "aayo na ta feri yatai mu** ho tyaso bhe". They left MN and headed back to Deep South. As they were driving through Indiana, one of the dudes thought they were lost. Other dude said "No". "thik chha bato yahi ho" euta le bhanthyo. "bato ta ho yo hai --- tara yasle hamlai antai laijanchha" arko bhanthyo. Kich kich paryo. Finally, bato thik chha bhanne dude said, ok let's ask some one. If this is the wrong way then we can correct ourselves if not then at least we will have peace of mind. So, they pulled over to a gas station. "tel pani halamna" the passenger dude said and pumped the gas. "Sodhna" chheu ma gas halna lako arko manchhe tira aankha sankara motor bhitra basya dude le gas haldai garya dude lai bhanyo. "pakhna" gas pumping dude said. Tara it seemed like usko manasaya pura hune chhat chhaina. There were no chicks at that gas station at that time. "chhito sodhna---waha samma janu chha" the guy from the car spoke again. So, the gas-pumping guy looked a while at another guy who was also pumping gas. Then he said, "Excuse me". Either the other guy didn't hear our gorkhe or didn't understand, showed no response. Then even though other gorkhe from the car was asking him to ask again, gas-pumping gorkhe waited until the other guy looked at him. He lit up his face with nepali smile and in gorkhe tongue he asked the fellow gas pumping man, "Is this Indiana right?" The man stared at gorkhe other gorkhe dude in the car thought "Harey---aghinai tyatro farsi jatro achherma "welcome to Indiana" lekheko padhera yaha samma aayi sake pachhi---yo mu** feri". The gorkhe dude from the car said, Tellai kanfyuz nagarna ----bato sodhna indianapolis ko chhito--" The dude followed his friend's instruction and came to the point, "Can you tell us how to get to Indianapolis?" The man gave him the direction saying left and right and also reinforcing what he was saying with his hand gestures. Gorkhe lost everything after two rights and left but was still nodding as if he is getting everything but manmanai bhandaithyo----oho kasto kamplikated re chha---indiana polis pugna sakiyela jasto chhaina---asti jada ta majale gako ho" The guy who was giving the direction must have noticed our gorkhe is lost. So, he said, "follow me". He seemed to be a kind-hearted gentleman. "Tellai falo garni rela hin". The gorkhe dude came to the car. They started to follow the guy. After many rights and lefts, the guy pulled his car to a place where a couple of flags were fluttering. Raat parna parna lako bela thyo---driver gorkhe le signboard herera bhanyo-"yo mu** le ta hamlai pulis chauki ma po lyayo ta mu**". "Huh"? arko passanger gorkhe jhaskiyo. Worried driver gorkhe looked at his passenger and asked, "ta mu**le yellai ke bhanis?". "ke na ke ---tyai bato sodhya ta ho niindianapolis ko". They did not know what the guy brought them to the police post for. "aba bawal hune pho---Aai twanti pani kata chhapasport pani ka ho---" driver gorkhe said. "mero ta passport pani expire bha chha yaar" the other spoke. They stopped the car. Noticing the following car stopped. The man also stopped his car, got out and came back to Gorkhes. "yo mu** pani pulis re chha aba---paila kam garya sab niskini bho---aba back to mangalman---ma***" Frustrated gorkhe driver said. dui tin choti layera passenger ra driver duitai gorke le milera tyo manchhe lai sodhe---"why did you bring us here?" Mutu ta dhuuuk dhuuuk gorkhe haru ko. Surprised at the question, the man looked at the passager gorkhe who was asking for direction earlier with him and asked, "didn't you guys want to come to the police station?" "Nooooooooooooo! we want to go to Indianapolis". Driver gorkhe said and put the car in reverse. ********************************************************************* [I heard this incidence from a friend of mine in AL. How true is this, only the involved people know]. |

Jiradai, I can't help you on this. You have to ask some one from AL. I guess the incidence is some 7/8 years old. So, find someone who was in AL at that time. I am also waiting. If they (the lead characters) visit sajha, they may drop their comments. Jammai boka haru chineko chha rey AL bata MN gako? Ani kasari thah napako ta? Ki malai ghatana sunaune le hawa sunaidechha ki ta? |

So, ki ta nangiya hunu paryo ki kattuiya--langautiya sangautiya haina. Jiradai, like I said earlier I won't be able to verify this. You have to find the source. May be playa_from_himalaya knows. I know about Ganesthan and that paati. Bharkharai pugera aaye man manle. tyo mandir aghiko ganeshjilai ghurera basira "standby" muso ni dekhe. ghanti twanga hanera yasso tauko ma chhwara ni aaye. Based on your earlier account, I also have closely narrowed down where your house is in Kutubahl. But I won't be able to say if you attended school in AL. Deep, my apologies......the story was great, as always. I think our diasporic lives, not to mention late-night alcohol-induced conversations, are enriched by little snippets like these. Whether they're true or not, is beside the point. Ever heard of the guy who accidently joined his palms and bowed in respect the first time he drove thru an automatic toll booth? |

Wah! wah! "jhari gau" dherai pachhi suniyo. Maja aayo. Its raining here too. Pani pareko belama jhari gau ko yaad. The only thing I don't like to remember from that area is what happened to Sudamsu. Do you know Naresh, Rajman and others? The probability is extremely high, haina ta? Playa, you also reminded me of Guntersville lake. [I always thought what's up with the name? but the setting of the lake and town was so nice]. |
