Does anyone know whether they have carbohydrate? If yes, in what quantity? Thanks in advance for your input.

I believe Chiura had zero carb. but don't know about Usineko chamaal
vivid Posted on 28-May-03 07:57 AM

Prajesh ji,
Both are rich sources of carbohydrate.
The only difference of them from the brown rice is that both of them have the carbohydrate in partly gelatinised form.

Prajesh Ji,
I thought it was another "Pangra ra Bisko note".

How can Chiura not have carbohydrate? Thats strange..
sks Posted on 28-May-03 09:16 AM

i dont claim to be an expert on this, but I believe both cheura and parboiled rice have considerably less carbs than just plain rice.
vivid Posted on 28-May-03 09:47 AM

Yes, SKS ji you are right.
Plain rice have carbo. > 75%
Cheura and parboiled rice < 70%.

I think the confusion is between carbohydrates and calories.

Both Chiura and Usineko chamal have carbohydrates (grains have carbohydrates) but are very low in calories.

khoi, pahila pahila usineko chamal khub khaye.. tara achamma, jatti kahye ni turuntai bhok lagne.. bhanepachi fat sat calorie salorie hundaina jasto cha..

SITARA ji,
Do not get confused ni, the total calories of food are derived from its carbo, protein and fat content. Just for simple calculation,
1 gm carbo = 4 calories
1 gm protein = 4 calories
1 gm fat = 9 calories
So, it doesn't mean that cereals are low in calorie.
100 gm rice = 75 gm carbo + 8 gm protein + 3 gm fat + others
so, 75*4= 296 calories from carbo
8*4= 32 calories from protein and 3*9= 27 calories from fat.
Nowadays some nutritionists claim that it is better to eat proteins than carbohydrate if you want to loose weight, like the famous Atkins diet.

IF ji, parboiled rice is easily digested in compared to the plain rice. Nepali ko andro lai plain rice khayera dherai ber samma pachai rahane bani parya ani parboiled rice khanda ta ekai chin ma pachaune kam sakiyera feri kam magya ni hajur ko andro le tyeti bela, :)

Thank you Vivid ji:

I did recall doing all that in my Nutrition class as well as a computer programme I had to use to track my calories intake for the semester. But, that was not what I meant... I thought the confusion was between calories and carbohydrates.

Ke ho? hajur ko field jasto cha ni! :)
