FYI,
For those of you who have been using the Target hotline phone cards ( or Himtel cards) to call Nepal, the rates have been increased to almost $2 per min, effective from last night ( 5/28).
I happened to call home last night and got cut off within a few mins.

goondruk,
Sparsha gave some information on Target card few days back. According to the information Sparsha put here, if the toll free number (on the back of that hotlink) card reads other than 800-325-0443 then you got the wrong card. Find the card with that toll free number or may be you want to recharge that old card to enjoy better rate.

Check the toll free number on your card.

If, in fact, the rate went up to $2.00 a minute, then it sucks.
goondruk Posted on 29-May-03 09:02 AM

Yeah I know it sucks cos I just recharged my card yesterday.
I do have that same toll free number. I called the customer service for a refund but they said they have the right to change rates without notification anytime.

If you bought it through Himtel, then you should have received an email from them about the rate increases.

What Deep says was true, but now rates have increased on ALL target cards. Probably on Kroger MCI cards too.

If you recharged your card try disputing the charge with your credit card company. That usually works. I don't think MCI customer service will refund the money.

Guys..I don't know if I am missing something here but try this : Instead of you calling your relatives in Nepal, have them call you through a home-conferenced internet call. [You guys must be thinking that the rate of internet calls have gone up or it is no longer possible to make calls through the web, but believe me it is! unless, like I said, I am missing something]. The sound is pretty good both ways.

I don't remember the last time I called my family from here.My dad pays like Rs 8/min every time he calls me. Let me know if you're interested and I will try to find out the details for you.

Yadav, can you give us details plz. I don't have computer at home. But i heard it is possible to do some conferencing??
Bhunte Posted on 29-May-03 01:52 PM

Better send money to friends and relatives there, and let them call here....lol
forget-me-not Posted on 29-May-03 03:09 PM

You can talk to people there, esp tyo cyber type ka harulai. They will provide you a service, you call them and give them the number to call, that is yours, here in US, then they wil call and transfer the call to you. I used to do that to call my college admissions and stuff when I was back home. But because of NTC, some of them were caught and punished byt the law re..Its actually still illegal, I think so not sure as of now.

But as Yadav said try that, its much cheaper, but thats only possible in major cities only as far as I know.

Himtel le aali ramro card khojnu paryo aaba...
