Don't buy American cars they are high cost, high maintenance and low mileage, a perfect example of piece of junk. I would rather go for Korean than American. I own a 2001 Acura, runs real good. |

Longwood, I own a 1996 Toyota Corolla and am very happy with its performance. It does not have the luxurious amenities but is very reliable and efficient and that is what I look for in a car. I did however once had to replace my starter (and later found out that there are known issues with the starter and alternator for Corollas from around that time). Apart from that, it has been running virutally flawlessly. The engine is very quiet (I already have 124 K miles though it is mostly highway) and the gas mileage for a near-even combination of highway and city driving is around 32 mpg in summer (about 28 in winter). I assume that the Honda Civic also compares similarly though the car itself may cost a bit higher. In terms of appearance though I think the Civic looks nicer than the Corolla. Just for a change, my next car is probably going to be a Honda. I am not talking about higher end models because mero ghaati le nilna sakne bhanda thulo haad haru bhaera. Perhaps the Camry compares similarly with the Accord. American cars, in my view, are absolute pieces of junk, at least the majority of them. Perhaps they cost less for purchase and spare parts but the gas mileage and reliablity are also very low. Btw I rented a Ford Escort last year..was an absolute junk. The engine was noisy and pick up was very low compared to my thotro gaadi. The fuel efficiency was not that bad though. I am sure low end models of Japanese manufacturers such as the Toyota Echo (Tercel before 2000), Nissan Sentra, and the Mitsubishi Mirage fare much better than the Escorts, Neons, or Colts. One more thing, the Tercel (as of 1999) had a much better crash test rating than the Neon. Sorry, I don't know the most recent statistics though. |

yeah.."American car suck" ! This is what I can say after i discovered that the 96 Grand Am that I just got burns up gasoline like hell! a shitty 21 mpg..and plus it has some transmission problems which all 96 models are claimed to have..and the dashboard memory sucks too coz my ABS and ETS lights keep lighting up for no reason sometimes.. One thing I can say is though they have shitty exteriors, some of them have really sleek interiors and alot of fancy features in the dashboard and inside in an overall. Still, not going for another GM car again! |

If youre looking to crunch the numbers and see whats gonna be the most cheapest ride, there are 3 things you need to look at. Purchase Price Maintenance Cost Resell Price. Now the most important thing that will affect your analysis will be time and miles. First of all you need to figure out how long and how many miles you will be keeping a vehicle, this is different than how long a vehicle will run (A good mechanic can keep a vehicle running for over 300K miles) however there will be a steep maintenance cost to do so, therefore you need to figure out an optimum time to hang on to the vehicle. There is a point in the life cycle of the vehicle where the maintenance is at its lowest and the depreciation (perceived market value) of a vehicle at its highest, over time those two cost will get closer to each other, and will eventually flip flop. Therefore you need to figure out that magic point where those two connect. Look at publications from different fleet companies, or other automotive publications that will give you hard date to back that. Obviously that is going to differ for different vehicle class. Dollar for dollar, its cheaper to run an American made car for 5-6 years, 15-20K driving pattern per year. Take the big retail rebates out there, certain vehicles like the 2003 Grand Prix had $5000 retail rebate(ie Cash Back). DONOT opt for the 0% down, hey free money sounds good to everyone, but more often than not, its best to take the rebate versus getting a zero percent financing&. Reliability on American cars has come a long way, so dont let the commericials fool you, they have been also equally aggressive on the used car market.. I personally dont keep my car for more than 90K miles, and I have been typically buying American, I buy new and keep turning it over every 3 years. Sometimes it may also make sense to lease it if the mileage allotment and the Residual value are fair. The type of car, make and model is obviously gonna be your personal choice, so its not fair to say what car is better than others. There are obviously gonna be some lemons out there, eg Cadillac Catera, Aztec(its 1st year) etc, but over all its all fair game. You need to be informed as a buyer, dont go to a Dealership and get all excited because the dude sold it to you $500 below his cost. He is still raping you, the dealer cost they are showing you is the MSRP(Manufactured Suggested Retail Price), however the true number you want to be more close to is called the Dealer Invoice. Just go to the dealer and tell him you want to pay a few hundred bucks over the dealer invoice, Ill bet you hell kick you out of the door, cause they are making a slim margin on you. The dealer gets other kickbacks from the manufacturers, eg. Holdback, Finance Credit, Advertising Credit, therefore even if they sell it you at Invoice, they are still making money on the car&&.dont be afraid to play hardball with the dealer and insist a better buy&.good luck car shopping& |
