21 Jun 2001 > Funny Zee , DD and Star TV ! We do not know why Indians are lousy when a Nepalese name pops up before them. They showed the most unbearable lack of accuracy with names last week while covering the news of the Royal carnage. The Zee people were really most funny. They pronounced Devendra and even Dhirendra instead of King Birendra. One newsreader Kapil Batra called Aishwarya Rai Shah for the late Nepalese Queen. The Indian neurotic compulsion for cinema and cricket is almost beyond comprehension to anybody in the contemporary world. The Zee people never learned to pronounce Nirajan Bikram Shah. They regularly blurted out Niranjan Bikram Shah as if the word Nirajan is not available in the Indian dictionary and more than that new King Gyanendra was not Gynendra for them, but Jainendra. What funny people! Even Arunav Goswamy, who is most familiar with every Nepalese intricacies pronounced Taranath Ranapratap instead of Taranath Ranabhat. The so-called defence analyst cum Star News, Major General Ashok Meheta pronounced Mahabir Thapa instead of Mathabar Singh Thapa. Purnabhadra Bajraya, jailer of the Kathmandu Jail became Purnavajra Bhadracharya for them. For the lady from Door Darshan, Nepal lost her independence to British India in 1816 and got it back in 1923! It was exactly like the story of a tailless monkey that asked each and every monkey of the jungle to cut off their tales because of the latest fashion of tail-cutting has arrived from the city. Burkha Dutt from Star Plus always remained unpopular among viewers. But why the Star Plus management didn't understand her imposing behaviour against all journalistic norms? She would not allow any Nepalese participants to speak in "WE PEOPLE", which she conducted, though the programme was based on Nepal. Nepalese would love to be covered by any Western media than unwanted Indian interest on Nepal.

just a quick response. For those indians who are puzzled by the anti-indian sentiment in nepal should examine their newscasters a little closely. The nerve of that woman who says Nepal lost its independence to British! For such a crock piece of a news, she would have been fired by any self respecting news agency. But, hey we are talking about STar TV and Zee TV, for pete's sake!! Do you really expect any integrity from these RAW agencies!!! SHAME ONE YOU INDIAN DALAL.

and these nepali like to talk in broken hindi to these tv demagogues, and if they could not impress them with their shameful hindi, they try with their questionable english prowess. What are these people made up of? Geez Weez! and also, what 's your name, ck lal just read the this piece of news why nepali don't like indians, since u were wondering and propagating we should "like them." the subtle and not so subtle comments about nepal and nepali makes every self respecting nepali's blood boil. mine does. it was not ha ha funny but pathetic - i mean the zee tv and star tv. I think I want to flood their site with my comment. does anybody know the address? I doubt it works but at least I can get my aggression out.

I think you can comment on their mispronunciations by finding their website in the Internet. Try those different search engines.

Blaming private media to justify anti-Indian sentiments in Nepal is going a bit too far, dear friend. You seem to be a victim of the extreme left/right rhetoric. Let's not get confused here. If Barkha Dutt, the Star TV anchor, mispronounces a Nepali name, it reflects poorly on her professonal standards. If most Indian journos are mispronoucing nepali names, which is definitely the case, it simply means that they are bad journos. That's that.
