nf} g s] eof] ;femfnfO{ < a/afb eof] lg I am quitting Sajha. There is too much profanity and excessively inappropriate content. I don't think this place it appropriate for me. I am not posting anything from now although I will view it once in a while. The first time I ever viewed sajha, I was very impressed-- so many people with so many intellectual ideas, and opinions. However, now, I have become fed up with the profanity, name calling, bashing with words, etc. that happens every day in Sajha. I have come to conclusion that Sajha.com isn't "Sabai Nepali ko Sajha" after all. Au revoir Sajha.com! (A teen who is angered by sajha.com) Desh Bhakta Bhattarai P.S. (I was thinking of reading all the articles in BBC News Web Site rather than wasting my time here-- the place I thought was "intellectual")

easy come easy go. It's one thing to enunciate one's opinion or even decry what one finds disagreeable, another to be snooty and declare one's departure - as if his/her absence would be felt, much less missed. Ciao!

Intellectuality comes but only with Freedom, freedom of expression, freedom of words. And Freedom, my friend, like everything else worth having, tags along a dark side with it. Now it is upto you to decide, whether you are strong enough to bear with the little evil, but enjoy the immence goodies it brings along with it................ Intellectuality, being one of those highly desirable goody. Shady

Ja-ne bha-ye ja mora! Sajha doesn't need Bhattarai's-- too many Bhattarai's in Nepal-- Baburam, Krishna Prashad-- and I don't think you are related to Nabin either. Sajha has over 3000 members-- if one is gone-- nothing will happen Whatever!

Guys and Gals, you forget 'Thopa Thopa Le Sagar Bharcha'. It might take long but if you start taking out drops from Sagar, one day it will also dry up. Is not this a good time to think, what made an innocent teenager leave Sajha which he enjoyed so much in the past? I think he is no different than all of us, same energetic, new ideas, enthusiast, and is clean of all the Hodge Podge of this complex world. But, suddenly he says 'I have had with Sajha'. Why? Village Voice what do you think? San, Ashu, Paschim, Biswo, NK, Sitara, Jira, Trikal, Simplegal, Niharika, Gurl_interrupted, Ruck, Oys, Deep, Sparsha, Nepali Chora, IF, HG and Bhedo (if you guys are still listening), and the rest of the gang, why do you think he is quitting? According to him he is high schooler. Has Sajha become so narrow that it can only entertain people in their 20s and barely early 30s? Has it become so polarized? Or do you think it is natural and we can survive with 10% leaving, 10% joining and 80% staying aloof? Or, it is time to think seriously if Sajha needs a 'FACE LIFT'? - iti

I absolutely agree with logical sense and laughing buddha... maybe it is time to ponder than just have that attitude of "who cares" cause dbb is a cry of different status all together. Last summer, I immensely enjoyed his mahabharat series when he decided to call it off. I think sajha is in a cycle......cycle of change. Earlier, there was a typical group of people that came into sajha, but it has become way too diverse, but diversity comes with a huge price if you can't be tolerant of each other. We all come to sajha for a different reason, and lately I am sure it is not what we expected it to be. I am sure DBB's expectations of a site where he could enjoy has degraded into bashing, whining, name calling, breaching the privacy and so forth..... I don't think DBB has ever voiced his opinion on how important he is nor he has urged to make himself seem important, that's why I think his cry of leaving sajha is of a different stature. I wish he come back, for the theme of sajha is to bring the nepalis of different age group all together, not alieniate to a certain group. I hope in days to come, sajha and sajhaites will help to revive to bring back its lost vigor, wit, humor, and information and above all.........tolerance and trust of each other! my two cents :)

Dear Oys bhai and Logical Sense, You guys have hinted at a very seriosu problem. Yes, people are leaving Sajha and we need to think why this is happening, and help prevent future/prospective quitters. Community is a team/collective effort and everyt member is important. Everyone is equal and eveyone should be treated with respect. However, for the last few months, two things were happening at Sajha: 1. Clique formation 2. Using the message board as a substitute for email 1. Clique formation: This is one factor that has made many Sajhaites quit. Its difefrent when you praise someone or agree with someone, but its a different thing altogether when you and your supporter engage in synchronize attacks against the people who don't seem to buy your views. This lead to PERSONAL attacks, comparisions, name calling and what not. Its not that this sort of things were happening for the first time, they happeend in the past too, but then those activities would prevai for a very brief period. Good postings would eventually drive away the bad ones and Sajha would retain its essence. However, for teh last 2 months, the good postings didn't drive the bad ones. The bad ones kept on popping up. People just kept on reving those threads/discussions for cheap fun at the expense of others. This made site more of a "verbal warfare" ground than a good discussion site to exchange ideas and make friends. Also, clique formation barred people from posting constructive criticism(s) and just because nobody criticized the piece(s), the original posters, all educated and well travelled, somehow got the impression that their writing is so flawless that whoever questions or criticizes is in fact an idiot. People just became too unwilling to accept criticsm or question and anybody who questioned was ignored, if not given a lengthy lecture on all that's imaginable. 2. For the last 2 months, one would see messages which are of very personal nature. People started using this board as a substitute for email and other forms of communication. And many sajha members, instead of reading/commenting on quality posts, started to read and reply to personal and taal-na-sur ko messages such as "hey where to go for dinner tonight, any idea" or "I am bored.. Entertain me" sort of threads. This alienated many regular Sajha visitors who frequented this site to learn on the events happening in Nepal and the world. They couldn't p[ost new topics nor teheir serious nature allowed them to take part in cheap thrill threads. They simply didn't want to comment on somebody's sex life or somebody's eyes. They just couldn't find anything that would be of any interest to them. I think these two factors are/were responsible for DBB's decision. mero bichar yahi ho...

Aye IF Ji. Cliquism and substitute for email is rampant. (did participate occasionally in latter crime. Sorry, for didn't know better). Hope Sajha bounces back to it's former glory. Avid Sajha fan

Hm...Now when I post...I tend to be verrry cautious and hesitant! Coz I feel, I might violate the new rule of sajah! Perhaps, My slow mind has not yet grasped what it meant by "email messages?" Hm.....! I know as stupid as it may sound, but I would appreciate it if somebody would demonstrate what you mean by it? Thanks!

One good example of abuse by making it a mode of personal communication was the exchange between Joiedevivre and SKS in some thread. The messages would have been better communicated through email rather than publicly in an open forum. I hope you get the drift Gurl_Inturrupted.

I have read DBB's writings and have been impressed by the extent of his knowledge, passion for Nepal and his Mahabharata Series. Infact, I did not ,even in my wildest dreams, imagine that he is/was a teenager. His level of maturity and analytical skills, I admire. I hope that DBB returns with his Mahabharata series!

Khai baaaaaaaaaaa......... Koi aaundai garchhan, koi jaandai garchhan...yestai nai chha yahan ko reet...I think we'd be better off letting Sajha flow on it's own, rather than wasting time on pondering how to make it please each and every individual that visits Sajha, simply because Sajha CANNOT please everyone all the time. Leave it alone, and it shall stay afloat well on it's own, me thinks! Tyo email-type messages ko kura hai...asti dekhun ukus-mukus bhai raa chha mero chhati ma...I know many of you may not agree with me here... As long as messages are not vulgar and/or demeaning, I think they should not be accused of violating Sajha code. Someone mentioned the exchanges betwwen JDV and SKS--even though they were not directed at me, I enjoyed reading them nonetheless--the wit and humor of both of them made me giggle at times. Frankly, if Sajha was to be made an exclusive message board for stories, poems, essays, political/social discussions, without getting personal at times, it would be borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring for me.

Poonteji and others, I do agree with you mostly when you say we need to leave Sajha as it is to float on it's own and not regulate it, that way it will take it's own course. I agree because too much regulation might be bad, but.... But, in the mean time, I think a chaotic Sajha will never prosper. It is like leaving a river to take it's own course. Water will take the easiest course to reach it's destination, ocean, but, with little guidance you may walk the course of the river to very fertile lands, make beautiful lakes, make it establish heart warming cities, and many others along the way before it reaches ocean. Imagine, Sajha only inhabited and dominated by single minded people, say only philanthropists, or politicians, or literate people, or gossipers, or vulgars, it will loose it's Sajha Pan. Do you think in US the freedom is not Guided? One simple example of 'Language Police' in printing media summarizes a lot about how the freedom is achieved while keeping the course in right direction. For an example, you will not find 'Mother Cooking Meal' in any children's book, because it stereo types women as a person cooking meal (Contrast it with Nepal Madesh where 'Bhansia' ('Gharbali')- a person who prepares food (takes care of house), is the other popular name for wife), but what is encouraged here is 'mother who was police officer' etc. Now, someone might argue, it is against freedom of speech, but, as an intellectual don't you think that we should not only talk about 'equal opportunity' for sexes but work toward tharting the stereo type from the root of the society? And, I believe school is the best place to start. And, we can have many other examples.... - iti

LS jee, Please do not take me wrong. My proposition that we leave Sajha alone was only in the context of trying to please each and every individual, which, I believe, is not only impossible, but non-sensical to me. I also felt a little irked when some suggested that we keep Sajha free of email-type-messages. I personally believe that it would be extremely difficult to draw the line between personal messages and what some might consider real postings. Furthermore, as I have noted above, I have indeed found some personal messages fun to read even though they may not had been directed to me. Without them, reading only essays, poems, stories and political/social discussions, my life with Sajha would be rendered unexciting. Other than that, yes, I know we all must recognize the importance of limited regulation to prevent it from hitting the point of abyss.
