Is it still possible to travel to Canada to get your passport stamped if you have a H1-B? or can you only get it done in Nepal? In advance, I thank you for any helpful suggestions. |

Hi, You can get your H1B stamped in Canada but you need to make an appointment at the US Consulate 2 weeks before you plan to be there. They take a limited number of applicants each day so you may end up being in Canada longer than expected otherwise. I hope this helps. Where in Canada are you planning on going? |

Oh yeah? I heard that if you are denied in Canada, then you are gone for good. As you cannot reenter amrika. |

Oh Gosh, That is not the end of the world. You will need to go back to Nepal and then apply for your H1B and come to the states... You will just be spending more money.... |

i went to ottawa two times for stamping and both times i did not have any problem. If you get one of those interviewers [ of INDIAN origin ] they seem to give you a hard time. But as long as you have all the papers genuine and in place they will have to stamp it. Ottawa is a beautiful place as well. so if you are planning to go there make sure that you go around the canal etc. etc. Very cheap place compared to US or other canadian cities like toronto or montreal. |

Hi Thapap Thanks for your reply. Puts me a little at ease. From your reply I understand that you mail your papers in first and then go for a face to face interview. Is that how it works? I suppose we (nepali passport holders) also need a visa to enter Canada right? have a good day at work and thanks for your suggestion(s) To, playa_from_himalaya Got you email. Tried to reply but apparently hotmail does not recognise your return address i.e playa_from_himalaya@hotmail.com |

Have you thought of revalidating your H1B visa stamp here in the US without traveling to Canada. Please have a look at the following site: http://travel.state.gov/hlop.html#5 |

Gyaneshwor, yup.. we nepalese need to get visa to get into canada. goto http://www.nvars.com for the appointment. I think you can use the phone system as well. i do not have the number. when you schedule an appointment they will give you a list of documents you would need to carry. i do not know the recent changes but i never sent them any documents beforehand. Just take it with yourself and present it to the interviewer. [ at least that's what i did.] hope this helps. |

sc, there are so many issues regarding visa validation that it did not work for me for following reasons: 1. it takes between 3-4 months for the process. 2. if you are changing visa status i.e. F1 to H1 or B1 to H1 etc. it cannot be done. 3. if you have changed employer then it would not work. 4. even with the same employer when your location gets changed i.e. from one state to another, then you would need a new H1 meaning extension from the new service center thus this revalidation this would not work. [ meaning that if the job location changes you would need a new H1] |

thapap, You are right. It does have all the restrictions you mentioned. It makes sense only if you've fulfilled those conditions.I am in the process of revalidating.I sent in my application yesterday and expect to have my passport back in 10-12 weeks. If it works, I get to go to Nepal for Dasain and it saves me money and time in terms of travel and the uncertainty that goes with being outside the US without a visa stamp.Else, the next option would be either Canada or Nepal. regards, S.C. |
