About 3-4 years ago, I was literally hooked to this Ajambari program on Sagarmatha radio. Purana geet ko content was exciting enough for someone like me, but more appealing was the host/producer Prakash Sayami. Usko boliko mithas, uska guest selection, usko wonderfully poetic analysis. I missed him (and the program) on my return to amrika. What I am really sad about is the rumor that Prakash Sayami has been let go by the Sagarmatha producers because he promoted Darjeeling-based artists & geets more favorably. Usko srimati Darjeeling ki re. Khai yo sabai kuro sunda naramailo lagyo. Would be very interested if someone has a better knowledge about why the program/host was cut.

I don't think they were biased to anybody but Nepai culture and language in their program. Once they did not broadcast a song "uhile ta bajeko palama paisa ganthe dalama.. ahile hamro palama makai chhaina dalama.. lali chadhyo kya maloom timro galama.." just for the word "Kya Maloom"... their team worked that way...

Hadn't have chance to witness all those things Prakash Sayami did during the whole last decade. Had only a brief uth-bas with him before that. I came by here just following the conversation with Harris ji about ghazal. I had a chance to read in the news that a few years ago, Prakash Sayami had organized a workshop in Kathmandu on writing ghazals. Anybody knows about it ?

i was a regular listener of prakash sayami while i was in Nepal. He first started out in KATH FM in a Gazal program and sort of changed the way of radio anchoring. he not only selected and played good gazals but also made sure that everybody understand what gazal is and started promoting nepali gazals too. i had a chance to listen to very rare gazals in his program. he had a band of his loyal suporters among thousands of listeners who would just make sure that they don't miss his program no matter what. besides this he also organized gatherings and gazal workshops. then he suddenly dissapeared. latter he reappeared in Radio Sagarmatha with Ajambari Geet. he became more famous in radio sagarmatha and made much more fans. who organised themselves as vabaks. i don't beleive that he was let go because of his promoting darjeling music. he promoted nepali music. he did his research and homework pretty well. he searced for rare songs and played them. he had promoted various artists and sahityakaars who young generations were forgetting, like koilidevi, shankar lamichane. he and his vabaks, collected money for koilidevi via this very program and later on published shankar lamichane's books. i read somewhere that he was now working in some FM in pokhara. where ever he is I know he is working for the betterment of nepali music and literature and wish him all the best.

Hey NepaliThhito, That was a nice snippet from you. Thank you for so much information about Prakash Sayami. I do not know about now, but he was indeed with Pokhara FM. Some two years ago, I was walking lukhur lukhur on a footpath of Putali sadak when a nice jeep stopped by me and a familiar voice called my name 'Hello Nepe'. It was Prakash Sayami. Our brief bhalakusari was interrupted by I forgot what. It was probably the Traffic police. Anyway, he gave me his visiting card. On it was Pokhara FM. I gave mine. He was puzzled to find me working in a very different field. However we could not have more conversation. He asked me to call him which I am yet to do. Now that you told all those things about Prakash Sayami, I feel proud to know him. By the way, what is bhavak ? A discussion group ?
