It seems external HTML hyperlinks posted in Sajha (and Sajha Kurakani) usually open inside a Sajha frame. I would like to bring it to the Site Admins attention that such an arrangement could potentially have legal implications. Let me cite a section of an article I recently came across in this regard: *************************** Framing "A frame is a window on a website through which pages from another website can be viewed. In the early days of the Web, sites showed pages from other sites as a draw for visitors. The technology allows one website operator to use intellectual property owned by another entity to sell banner advertising on its on site. Although there has yet to be a U.S. court decision on this issue, in 1997 the Washington Post filed suit against online news site Total News for framing news items contained on the Post's site. Total News settled the case by agreeing to link to, rather than frame, the Post's Web pages. Despite the paucity of judicial guidance in this area, U.S. courts could declare framing to amount to a contributory copyright infringement because the viewer downloads a copy of the page onto his or her hard disk. In addition, framing pages that contain another's trademark or service mark may lead to liability for trademark infringement. *************************** Full article at: http://www.gigalaw.com/articles/2002-all/wood-2002-06-all.html |

this sounds more ridiculous than alarming. >>U.S. courts could declare framing to amount to a contributory copyright infringement because the viewer downloads a copy of the page onto his or her hard disk. well, everytime you visit ANY website you download a copy to your hard disk (if you have not unchecked the option of downloading it to your temp folder). Following that argument everyone is guilty of copyright infringement |

Maximum20-ji, I was more concerned about the framing of the external sites (which Sajha does) than the issue you found ridiculous. |

Maximus, Echoes is right about it. Not just about frame issue, I have read disputes about direct linking as well. But sajha does not claim content as its own and clearly states it is from another site so it should not be a matter of much concern. But who knows, sometimes "Even not-loaded gun fires" (Nabhareko Banduk padkinchani) ! |

Well..I don't know much about the legal issue here, but I don't really like other webpages opening in a sajha browser and then one has to either scroll down and right to comfortably see the contents. I am assuming most of us prefer to see the link web-pages in a new browser, so why even bother framing other web-pages in a sajha browser? Just a thought! |

Good point Echoes, and fully agree with Kirsten. I think it would be better if the linked sites would open in a new window than in the present sajha site. San dai, do consider this suggestion. |

In some other news on webpage development, Framing is the most hated part from users perspective. No framing is another trouble maker from intellectual property right perspectives. Personally, I hate frames. Frames are annoying. I like separate windows.......... as in my GyaNeX UniqWare (http://www.e-nepal.org) GP |
