Mr. Know-All Ashu and his equally 'know-all' opponents 'killed' Nepal newsgroup by their relentless net warfare. It's a deserted place now, where very few Nepalese venture (if any). Here they go again. At the rate this senseless squabbling and one-upmanship is going on right now, the GNBC forum will be as dead and deserted as a cemetery in less than half a year. Good luck to you guys.
Manohar Posted on 26-Jun-01 11:12 AM

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have been a silent reader of this forum for the past year and I have seem many posters and postings.

One thing, however, has been constant. And that's Ashu's postings. Lot of people here think that Ashu's a snob, he acts like he knows it all. I'm not sure if it's a lot of people or a handful of people who are bent on showing him down. In any event, it's good to see that Ashu has not faltered in his postings.

- I don't think Ashu's a know-it-all, if you think so, you're giving him a compliment. He just likes discussing things and expressing his opinions. Nothing wrong with that.

- There's no such thing as one-upmanship in the internet. Either you have it or you don't. There are probably quite a few people like me who just read but never post. And there are a few people who post. If you want to post you can post more than Ashu. It doesn't make you a know-all or an expert just because you like discussing.

You learn many things by discussing. If ANYBODY thinks discussing is acting like know-it-all then they are NERDS who think they are smarter than everybody else and they don't like hearing anybody else's point of view.

Discussing is expressing ones opinions. There's nothing wrong with sharing what you know when you're discussing. If he knows about 'amygdala hijacking' and you don't it's not his problem! He's just sharing his cumulative knowledge from his experience. If you know more 'quotes' that you can insert in your arguments, and if you can cite more 'anecdotes' to support your arguments during discussion, anyone who questions your 'insertions' Ashu, is a wanna-be-smart-but-not-really,-so-let-me-see-how-I-can-try-to-make-an-ass-of-myself kinda person to whom I would not give a hoot no matter how much hell they raise.

Another favorable point in Ashu's favor is that he uses his own name to express his opinions. He does not come in under some hidden identity to throw slingshots at people. Most of the people who seem to have problems with Ashu's postings seem to enjoy the benefits of anonymity. If you really think he's stupid or you think he does not know what he's talking about, why don't you use your own name and express your opinions like he does his.

Lastly but not the least, for the anonymous posters, Ashu has done a lot for the community. He has be working for the kamaiya cause for a long time. He has been actively involved in helping our country for a while now. What have you done for your country lately?
sally Posted on 26-Jun-01 11:45 AM

Just an observation.

I've noticed--not just here, but in general--that anyone can write about politics or literature or whatever and no one comes along and says, "what's your evidence?" Scientific knowledge, on the other hand, seems to be a jealously guarded property.

Why can't people talk about science as casually as we talk about everything else? Don't we all do this on a daily basis anyway? The other day, when I was chatting with other moms about what mix of genes were coming out in the behavior of our various kids, no one came along and said, "But not a one of you is a geneticist! Why, you know-it-all snobs, you! How dare you talk science without credentials!"

It seems to me that if you've got an idea inspired by something you read in biology class or the newspaper's science section, that's fine. It's not snobbish unless you're putting down other people in the process--and putting them down as people, for their backgrounds or something, rather than critiquing their ideas.

It is interesting, though, that there's this idea afoot in the world that science is somehow the property only of scientists, while anyone is free to talk politics or literature. Maybe science is a sort of scripture for the modern world, worthy only to be interpreted by fully qualified pundits. If anyone else mentions it, just pour molten lead in their ear, right?

Even if you win the rat race, you're still a rat. Even if ashu is a "smart" ass, he's still an ass.
manohar Posted on 26-Jun-01 04:14 PM

In front of all the other asses as least he's a smart ass. The other asses need to get their act straight. He's a smart ass. He's an ass doing something for the country and he's an ass not afraid to use his own name.

The other asses, all they do is complain.
radha Posted on 26-Jun-01 04:31 PM

pranav, (if that is really your name), you need to go for treatment for your excessive unwanted aggression/jealousy. there are plenty of places where u can go to chill out. or maybe u just need a few slaps across your face to wake you up from your slumber of laziness - laziness to write something substantial, rather than just be nasty and bruitish.

iTS ONE THING TO POST INFO , ANOTHER TO BRING PERSONAL SQUABLES TO A FORUM. BESIDES THERE IS A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING. THIS IS GBNC WEBSITE,YOU JUST DON'T GO POST HAPPY. iF SO WHY DON'T WE START POSTING PORN SITES HERE AS WELL.
i AM NOT DOUBTING HIS IQ, HE IS A SMART MAN WITH NO COMMON SENSE. WHAT GOOD IS YOUR INTELLIGENCE IF YOU CANNOT APPLY IT PROPERLY. HE SHOULD REALIZE THAT FROM THE NUMBER OF FRIENDS HE HAS LOST.
LAST OF ALL WHAT THE HELL CAN YOU DO WHEN YOU ARE LIVING HERE. WHEN YOU ARE A 9-5 YOU HAVE LIMITED TIME HERE. YOU SHOULD REALIZE THAT AS WELL(if you are living here). People do contribute twhen there is a need (earthquake etc etc.). How bout you SIR did you?????
pranav Posted on 26-Jun-01 05:04 PM

He might be dying for the country, well, so are the Maoists! But he sure can't take a pinch of criticism right. It's interesting to see how a well-run propaganda preys naive folks so easily. Isn't that the same secret used by the Maoists?
kali p Posted on 26-Jun-01 05:09 PM

radha, if that is your really your name, it's a misnomer. Before you can demand for substantial writings from others, you must first write some substance, not abuses.
Trailokya Aryal Posted on 26-Jun-01 05:29 PM

Dear Gaule,

another collective nepali trait (as evident from this thread) is to criticize someone for just the sake of criticism--nothing more, nothing less. I am not defending anyone here, but, i do believe that one has to refrain from being personal (by this I mean attacking somepne personally for his views/knowledge). If you think ashu's use of "whatever that was" was not accurate/appropriate, you should tell us why and support your views. You can't just go on attacking someone for what they write/say in public, can you? If this trend of attacking people for no reason whatsoever continues, then i am afraid people will stop posting messages, even worse, people will learn how to use psedo names and attack others, just for the pleasure(?) of it.

Its fine if you want to get personal ONE-on-ONE with ashu, but, for that there's this wonderful program called email, why don't you use email to show your dis-satisfaction? Why use this board? Please use this board only when you think that you can participate in a discussion without being disrecspectful and personal. That's all.

And, its my dui-lakh rupiyako musings :-)

So what all these talk makes us "The Biggest dump asses." Friends, let's not waste our time and energy on this kind of low level talks.
Gaunle Posted on 26-Jun-01 08:00 PM

Trailokya,Maybe you didn't clearly read my first email where I write that all of ashu's comments and arguements are ok except for the little piece of unnecessary and unsubstantiated information about genetic trait inheritance from fathers, amygdala hijacking etc. Those are pulling away from the seriousness of his arguements.Other than that I don't think I have written anything against him.DOes that mean that I am "attacking" him?I think these days one cannot even comment on a website about things.ANd I had even said that if these things are to not be taken seriously and just for the sake of writing them then they were ok.Please go and read my first posting.I think people are not very open minded here and are offended by simple suggestions.
manohar Posted on 26-Jun-01 08:48 PM

>the little piece of unnecessary and
>unsubstantiated information about genetic
>trait inheritance from fathers,amygdala

Gaule, what makes you such an expert that you think some particular piece of information is unnecessary as opposed to tons of stuff that gets posted.
Gaunle Posted on 26-Jun-01 10:14 PM

Manohar, you are right.Tons of stuff gets posted here. But does Ashu want his otherwise thoughtful and serious postings be compared to tons of stuff?I think I have written enough people. It was and remains a simple suggestion. It has unnecessarily been dragged on making a mountain out of a mole-hill or not even a hill.It was only a suggestion nothing written in stone.Nothing to be defensive about.DOn't like the suggestion then don't take it.Simple as that.I suggest people move on and I will be the first one to do so.
Hari Posted on 26-Jun-01 10:21 PM

I think I'm beginning to get sickened by all this nonsense going on here. Trailokya, no need to muse dui lakh rupiyah worth on this squabble. I, for one, am not going to even waste my usual Dui Paise worth :-).
