David Beckam has been the most prominent appearance in British media thesedays. Since his move to the worlds richest club, Real Madrid, for a whopping record 41 million dollar transfer, the England captain has absolutely smashed the record fee transfer to any club by any player. Cheese!! I am beginning to wonder in the next couple of years, you wouldn't have to go anywhere to find the world's top XI. Its Real Madrid for god sake. The illustrious Frenchman Zidane, Portuguese sensational and Fifa player of the year Figo, Spanish golden boy Raul, Striker Morientes, Brazilian speedster striker Ronaldo, and now David Beckam. What the hell is going on?? Beat Real Madrid.

But anyways, David played most of his club soccer with Manchester United and definitely from where he got so much popularity. But not after some dull moments in his footballing career. He got a lot of bashing from his beloved hooligan fans when he was Red carded during the '98 World Cup against Argentina and what a crucial Red Card that was for England. They lost the game in a tie break which made the angry fans pour down the streets of Paris. David recals the moment as one of the nightmare in his amazing career.

He is the most liked footballer in Asia and around the world. People love him for his skills when he is on the field and his lethal set pieces. He was responsible for taking England through to the World Cup in Korea/Japan. His last minute free kick against a lowly opposition Greece sealed the place for England when just for once there was a faded light in English football. David cool-ly placed the ball down, from 35 yards out, or it was just the right Beckam terrotory for him to have a go at, England going through to the world cup now depended on Beckam's magical boots, the whole of England awaited in silence to watch that free kick. Even the Queen was in awe. Beckam ran in and ball bended like Beckam, curved to the right, and smashed the net on the top right hand corner. Once again a Beckam free kick had rescued England from defeat and once again it proved how magical David Beckam actually is.

A lot of the times, he has proven to be quite an asset for the Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson. He has scored many vital goals for United and have taken them out of the brink of defeat. I have watched him score some of the most beautiful and outstanding goals for both United and England. I hope the young footballer flourishes with his boots, when he appears for Madrid.

Honestly, I was saddened tto hear Beckham's transfer. CNN tonight had a special Q&A on Beckham's transfer. Beckham says he is happy to be playing for Real Madrid.. but is he really? I know its money in Madrid, pus all the star players like Zidane, Ronaldo, Roberto and all, but wouldn't it take some time for him to adjust to the new team?

Beckham is a good player. Do you remebre the 1998 World Cup goal against Argentina? that was simply brilliant..

Real Madrid.. its like the football version of Chicagop Bulls.. all star team..

I am a Inter Milan fan- so it was little troubling to see Beckham going to Real Madrid when there were talks of him being linked to Inter (forget about Barcelona- they just made a huge mockery of themselves). But I am also a big Liverpool fan, so it's ok that he is off from the Premier League champion Manchester United lineup.

This aside

I was a fan of Beckham several years ago. But less and less these days for he somehow changed his passion/style of football after he and that spicegirl Victoria hooked up. I guess Sir Alex Ferguson- his coach for so many years- is when he says Beckham changed to a different person as a footballer after the marriage

Plus Beckham transfer is NOT the record by any player and any club- this is not true Krishna. Have a look at this site which says he is only the 16th largest transfer:

But as always I am fascinated by economics of sports, differences in this economics between Europe and America, and absolutely mind-boggling money - like Alex Rodriguez of Texas Rangers baseball team making $250 million for ten years I think- these people make for doing what they enjoy doing.

keep the thread going!

Good reply to KRISHNA post LAATO!!! it seems like our mate krishna is just one of those glory fans of BECKHAM... who just jump into BECKHAM MANIA!!!!! they know less about things around and talk more than they know. As for ur info. KRISHNA!!! as LAATO!! has mentioned BECKHAM is not the most expensive player in the world ZIDANE is the one for whom real paid the most fee. And also to tell u that BECKHAM is more of a fashion icon rather than a footballer>>> and don't forget that without MICHEAL OWEN hat-trick against GERMANY ( in one of the MATCH OF THE DECADE where ENGLAND won 5-1) England will be no more near qualifying for the worldcup. The greece match result would have no effect if ENGLAND had not beaten GERMANY. so u got to give credit to MICHEAL OWEN as well... n by d way.. next time.. when u come here next time.. get some good football facts b4 posting here...

Note: to LAATO>.. i m also a massive LIVERPOOL MAN>>> it would be really great to know someone who support liverpool as well>> so be in touch if u r out here next time...

Isolated Freak jyu,

I think I remember the 1998 world cup game between England and Argentina very well. Beckham did not score any goal in that match but got sent off for a stupid kick at Diego Simeone. That incident was lambasted by all media as a disgrace on the part of Beckham. It probably was the lowest point of his career.

And by the way, there was a wonderful goal in that game which was in fact scored by Michael Owen. And I do believe that Micheal Owen has bailed England out more times than Beckham has. Beckham is the more popular player but I have no doubts that Owen is the more important player in the English lineup. More so after the retirement of ALan Shearer.

Since I am a hardcore fan of football (soccer) ,its good to see discussion going on on it .I like England a lot . Ahile bahnda laaj lagcha ,...tara .... I cried with paul Gascoigne in front of Television when England Lost to Germany in 1990 world cup semi final .

yes, Isolated Freak ji ...David Beckham did score wonderful goal in world cup 1998 . But he scored it against Columbia in 30th minute .........and not Argentina.

agianst Argentina scorer from england were Alan Shearer (penalty 10th minute) and Michael Owen (16th minute ).

Like Most of the posters here I do believe Owen will be more effective and stable Captain of england than Beckham . I see David Beckham dissappearing like steve Mc manaman .
isolated freak Posted on 21-Jun-03 07:48 PM

really? I always thought it was beckham who scored a free-kick goal during the england-argentina match? or maybe i am just mistaken..or was it owen?

I also think Owen is the player to watch.. I wonder why he keeps a low profile? maybe he can focus more on the game?

and thanks for correcting me. Real Madrid is now the etam to watch.. with all the star players.. man, they have everyone..

Beckham's got the sissiest voice you could hear from a man - do his opponents go for the balls (and I don't mean the football) too much?

Now Real being one of the toughest team let's see if they can beat everyone and win all the games. But what I still think is just being loaded with the best players from all over the world isn't sufficient to be the best team. We gotta wait and see what happens... Till then enjoy Coca Cola ~..
