Arrested Tibetan handed to UN

Feeling heat over the deportation of 18 Tibetans to China, Nepal Tuesday extradited a Tibetan monk, Shovo, to Kathmandu-based United Nations refugee office -- the UNHCR, published reports said Saturday.

Authorities arrested Shovo on May 7 at the Nepal-China border of Barhabise. Shovo intended to enter India via Nepal. The release was made after fining US $ 107 for the crime of illegal entry into Nepal.

Wang Chuk Tshering, Nepal representative of Dalai Lama, appreciated the extradition and said, We have taken the move positively.

UN and western nations have criticized Nepal for deportation of the 18 Chinese nationals of Tibetan origin. nepalnews.com mr June 21

Nepal is trying to redeem itself. I think it's China's turn to get pissed now ineviably leading Nepal to an even bigger mess. American/European communities will throw some condescending words about how we are learning our lesson. And whoever thinks the notorious bill will be presented again, i'll have to strongly disagree.

on a slightly different but interesting note, isn't it funny that the punishment for entering Nepal illegally is just $107.
