Hey Guys, As you have seen the Senator from CA has with draw her bill from the congress for the special privileged export opportunity for Nepali Garments Exports. I have an IDEA, How about Nepali community or any individuals writing a letter or just making a call to there congress men or Senator from their district. If any other communities can do that for there communities why can't we do it for our country? Please think about this and just write some idea how we can do it. |

There was an earlier posting regardint this, titled: "Write a Letter to Senator: Campaign". http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/OpenThread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=11219. I have written a letter to the Senator and urge others to do same. |

Is Nepal's Garment Industry doing anything about this? How about our ever lethargic, always so unimaginative, epitome of "ke garne" Nepal Embassy? Shouldn't they be initiating a campaign such as this? If they are doing something, I have not heard about it. If they are sitting on their fat butts, twiddling their thumbs, I sure as heck am not going to spend my time writing letters to my senators. |

Get over it guys. Nepalis should compete in the world market, including US, like everyone else. No need for preferential treatment. B_D. |

Hey Guys, I know and you know who should do this and who should not do this, but as for the matter goes a line of concern to ur Senator is not going to kill that much of ur time. May be some of us can do like prepare some kind of form and just provide in this website so ppl who are interested can print out and sent them to their related Senators. As for the Boston Dude goes, this is what I dont agree with the liberal educated People. Now let me talk about china, what does it had in early 1980's compare to us it was noting, but the President of that time did this kind of special package that foreign countries can come and invest, they were given tax shelter, cheap labor and all the infrastructure that they need to move this great country. I dont see its the matter of special privileges, its asking for the chance to stand up. |

It's not just dropping a line of concern to our senator that matters here, it is the principle behind not doing so. If the said industry or, even more so, our ever so dependably incompetent embassy had publicly shown an iota of concern AND started a constructive campaign of letter writing or taken an initiative to mobilize the folks like me here who can participate in political landscape here in America to influence the powers in the Capitol Hill, I would've gladly, nay, enthusiastically answered the call. However, that is not the case. If those people whose potential riches depends on this bill's rejuvination or those whose job it is to create an awareness of national interest are completely blase about the whole issue, why should I, a private citizen with no interest in the said field, take even a short time out of my busy schedule to drop THAT line of concern to my senator. I challenge those folks who are in the embassy, or groups representing any supposed national interest: make your case to us - people of Nepalese origin - formally, passionately and logically. If the case is valid, folks like me WILL ask our senators/congressmen to find a way to help Nepal. But if you are not lifting a finger, neither am I. |

Similar thing happened to carpet industry in early 90s. When Indian accused Nepal of Child labor in German market which was the biggest at that time, none of hte representative did anything. Then Indian introduced Indo-Tibetan carpets. Now they export 3 time more carpets than Nepal. Sadly till few years back, 10 percent of the carpets exported from Nepal was made in India. I wonder who help them do all these things. Now is the high time the gov't realize that beside business community needs their help. They should do something. |

Dear Boke, This whole thing of Nepal being vicitim of a lady's mood(prob PMS) is sad. and you know what's the saddest part? you telling us, that you don't care to tell "your senator". You mentoned that again again, so ok ok, your senator. Okay! you are an American. You hit the lottery. You're the superior human being and we Nepalies are nothing more than a helpless creatures that can be crushed like little bugs under a mood of a senator or have to listen to b.s by an arrogant used to be a Nepali now American person. Boke, don't bother doing anything for us. If possible don't even come to this forum room. folks like you (American and influential) here in the usa who can participate in political landscape here in America to influence the powers in the Capitol Hill should stay away from poor victim people like us. You have fun at President's party. Boke, doesn't it bother you to know that a decision of a lady being emotional about 18 tebatians is going to starve 100000 poor nepalies in nepal. Hey, what about bhutani refugees. For her Bhutanese refugees in Nepal are not suffering humans. If tibetans were deported like that all the time you wouldn't be seeing so many tibetans in Nepal. It is sad what happened to those tibetans but Nepal is under pressure of china. and Your senator should talk to China and ban trade with china who forced Nepal to deport tibetans. If china sends army to Nepal , do you think "your senator" would do anything about it? Nepal would be another tibet and your senator would probably ban trade with bangladesh, or bhutan or small country like that. In nepali there is a saying, "tada ko deuta bhanda najik ko bhut kaam aaucha". Nepal can't offord to make china mad, and your senator knows this. |

Saday, Ouch! That burned you, didn't it? What... the bitter pill is hard to swallow? Yup, sometimes truth hurts, learn to deal with it Sadly, you did not even get my point. Do yourself a favor and read my posting again, and - for God's sake - quit whining. As for what you wrote, all I have to say is, those are your perceptions and observations, and they do not reflect on me. However, I don't need to justify and defend myself here, do I? |
