Hello Sajhaites: I just returned to the US after a four months long stay to fullfil some of my academic credits. During my stay in Nepal I met a lot of frustrated Nepricans living in Nepal. Please note that they used the term "Nepricans" to identify themselves - not me. Well, I have jotted down some of my observations on ways to identifying that demographic group in Nepal. Others can add on to tis list but these are some of my observations I bourght back from my stay in Nepal so I wanted to share it with other sajha bus ko yatri haru. 1. Places the window sticker of his college or university on his parents car which was purchased with black money and so was his education in the US 2. Begins with a Rs 55.00 diet coke can, steps down to Rs 12 Nepali bottled coke and eventually settles for the Rs 8 fuchhe coke 3. The memory of 501 jeans fade into oblivion and then starts to make purchases at the Hong Kong Bazaar in his neck of the woods 4. Misses umrika and his guilty conscience compels him to get on line and into sajha.com and lecture other Nepricans in the US the morality of returning to Nepal and contributing to matri bhumi 5. The memory of Mall of America and similar mega shopping outlets in umrika haunts him so he pays Rs 7 to the Safa Tempo and gets off at Bhat Bhateni Supermarket but in reality he has been addicted to flirting with just married Indian women on a shopping spree in Nepal 6. Becomes a regular at Martin Chautari, the only real chautari in Nepal that welcomes him and his likes 7. Writes up extravagant travelogues on Nepal at sajha.com after reading the postings of global trekkers accounts of travels in Nepal at www.yetizone.com 8. He hates the chat room at sajha.com because the chatters there dont even acknowledge his very existence because he has an IP address originating from Nepal 9. He unequivocally belongs to the single actively searching and desperate group but his filty rich parents portray him to be the most eligible bachelor in all of the Himalayan Kingdom 10. Of course, he visits Ashu frequently, the one and only leader-supreme of his type in Nepal |

hmm, quite interesting.BUt, you seem to be unnecessarily generalizing the whole mass. here's what i have to say on your 10 points: 1. . Places the window sticker of his college or university on his parents car which was purchased with black money and so was his education in the US I don't fit in. My parents neither own a car, nor my education in the US was purchased with black money. I was On a foool's scholarship!!! 2. Begins with a Rs 55.00 diet coke can, steps down to Rs 12 Nepali bottled coke and eventually settles for the Rs 8 fuchhe coke No. I don't drink coke. I settle for beer or coffee . 3. 3. The memory of 501 jeans fade into oblivion and then starts to make purchases at the Hong Kong Bazaar in his neck of the woods I don't pay much attention to clothes. And I never purchase ready-made garments. 4. Misses umrika and his guilty conscience compels him to get on line and into sajha.com and lecture other Nepricans in the US the morality of returning to Nepal and contributing to matri bhumi On this, well, yeah, I do miss America and the wonderful people tehre, but not-desperate to go to teh US because I knwo I can come to teh US whenever I want to/have to. Lecturing on coming back, well, some people in all their sincerity and honsety want to see this country develop and the only way to do that is to have the best and the brightest nepalese working in Nepal. 5.. The memory of Mall of America and similar mega shopping outlets in umrika haunts him so he pays Rs 7 to the Safa Tempo and gets off at Bhat Bhateni Supermarket but in reality he has been addicted to flirting with just married Indian women on a shopping spree in Nepal Hmm this could be true for some, but not all. I don't ahve a job to go on a shopping spree and thanks to a protective/possesive friend, i don't need to flirt with an Indian woman on shopping spree. plus, my mom does all the shopping. 6. Becomes a regular at Martin Chautari, the only real chautari in Nepal that welcomes him and his likes . I don't go to Chautari, nor want to be a part of it although i appreciate their effort in bringing together nepalis from ultra left to ultra right in the same platform. 7.Writes up extravagant travelogues on Nepal at sajha.com after reading the postings of global trekkers accounts of travels in Nepal at www.yetizone.com Again, i am strictly against plagarism and I am not much into writing travelogues and monologues or even dialogues. So, this doesn't apply to me at all. BTW< wasn't it you who posted a travelogue on Jhapa? Did you lift it up from that site? 8.. He hates the chat room at sajha.com because the chatters there dont even acknowledge his very existence because he has an IP address originating from Nepal. Wrong! I actually love Sajha chat room and I am there at nights talking with friends from Sajha. Do I get ignored? No. Actually, I get questions on Nepali politics and current events and i sometimes find myself relaying live coverage of the weather, politics, econmy and everything that's happening in Nepal. 9. He unequivocally belongs to the single actively searching and desperate group but his filty rich parents portray him to be the most eligible bachelor in all of the Himalayan Kingdom Again, why do you think that everybody who returns to Nepal belongs to a filthy rich family?I am not a rich kid. I came to Nepal for two reasons: i didn't wnat to settle as a computer lab supervisor at my alma matar all my life , 2. I wanted to be with my parents. Also, can't stduents go on scholarships? And, I am not searching anyone. All I am searching now is $$$$$ for my graduate school expenses. 10.10. Of course, he visits Ashu frequently, the one and only leader-supreme of his type in Nepal This is getting-personal. I meet ashu frequently to dicsuss on various events, and what's wrong with it? can't two people meet and exchange ideas and learn from each other? |

probably longwood didn't get much attention during his stay there...u guys in nepal should have him beer bath while he was there...why r u attacking to people so fiercely? everyone knows life in america is not so easy for all in contrary to what most people think in nepal...why anyone with bnks/sxs/lnkln school education in nepal would want to be a restaurant waiter here on their will? even for american borne kids, education here is definitely costly....please be considerate |

Bichara Longwood! As they say blame it on others lest the world know you did it! He seems prety adept at projecting what he will be like if he returns to Nepal one day to live there. It is understandable that one sees the world colored by your own experiences and reality! Kaso? |

Sad. Not funny. Written with such a negative hue and tint. (to longwood ave.) IF, rather than giving only your own example to refute what LA had to say, You could have written a bit differently - in a broader sense perhaps. You see, by giving only your own example, the question comes - what about the others?? Yours experience could have been only anecdotal, the exception. |

Longwood Avenue, You and your thinking sucks... I have alot of my friends, who have gone back to Nepal to work..not becuase they didnot find a decent job, but they wanted to be back home...with their families and friends... None of them do most of the things that you have mentioned above...maybe that was your real story which you just wanted it ti reflect as someone else's. IF jiu, I agree with you ...and most of the posting above. I also plan to go back to Nepal and work after my MBA, peobably in a years time....but I am sureI am not going to be someone that this guy has thought most Neprican look like... Pashupati nath le hami sabai nepali/Neprican/ no matter where they are living.. ko rachya garun... |

Longwood Ave. If your 10 points summarize the conclusion of your observations, then obviously your observations were too few, too narrow, and too biased. If it was an attempt at humor, then it failed... |

and just to add, if it is your futile attempt to disgrace someone here in sajha..........you were miserably soft and pathetic.... If u don't know how to love, at least spew your hatred like a man :P! better luck next time with your research as well dude! |

longwood jiyu, it is truly pathetic to hide behind the anonymity of "handle" and try to "discredit" people. even after being in US and educated here[from your words] you have not been able to transform a bit from that typical Nepalese behavior of "pulling other people's leg"; "talking behind back" and "hide behind the anonymity after spreading misinterpreted rumors." may be you are too jealous of Ashutosh dai's achivements. Probably you realize that you could never reach there so u r fowl mouthing. be a man and face him if you have any differences. he would give you a fair chance to settle it [ this i speak with experience] in addition to that dude, its not good to be so frustrated and introvert anyway. be happy and enjoy on success of others. admire them and their achievements . it makes you happy and half of your problem is already gone. [ comparing oneself with others creates half of the problem for human (my interpretation)]. |

Aw! All those things that i was secretly planning for myself to become "cool" did someone read my mind? me now very sad to see these steps already in action..oh, well...might have to come up with other innovative ideas... on a serious note, longwood--you could have done a better job than this to capture an essence of US returnees, oh come on now! |

I find the strong reactions to this posting little strange. Maybe I am partial to humor, even self-deprecating humor, but I thought the post was mildly amusing ..... not very funny but mildly amusing. I am assuming that it was written as humor/caricature which normally is exageration of reality for comedic purposes. Of course, not all Nepali's US education was purchased by parent's black money but one cannot deny that there are some of those too. And there are always similar lists floating around in Sajha. For example there is "15 WAYS TO IDENTIFY NEPALI DUDE IN AMERICA" which also grossly exagerates and generalises but people seem to laugh at that. Maybe we just need to learn to laugh at our expense once in a while and not take everything personally. I find that healthy. But I have to object to 10. Its no longer humor when one gets personal. There is no need to name this fellow named Ashu. Maybe this gives away the underlying personal dynamics among the posters that I am unaware of. |

It is very unfair for Longwood to attack Ashu who is doing such a wonderful job even not deterred with the current grave situation in Nepal. I don't know what has transpired during his journey for attacking a person so personally, but it is just he is WRONG. I suggest you apolize with Ashu and others in Nepal. Hope you didn't write the original post under the influence of alcohol or any drug. Ashu bro, we are all behind you for what you are doing, and your are a source of inspiration to all Nepali intellects abroad. Please don't be discouraged by such pathetic opinions. |

Longwood Ave, you wrote: " Please note that they used the term "Nepricans" to identify themselves - not me. " This sentence spoke to me in two ways, consequently posing these questions: 1. Read literally: Nepricans has a negative tone. In your postings, there is this subliminal tone of "guilty conscience" that underscores the negativity of Nepricans. Therefore, I find it quite far fetched that people with the characteristics/tendencies that YOU ascribe to them would self proclaim THEMSELVES as Nepricans. 2. Read with emphasis on the latter third of the sentence (i.e., to identify THEMSELVES-NOT ME): You speak for yourself. What in technical terms is called PROJECTION as a defense mechanism for something you cannot bear to acknowledge as YOUR OWN fears/beliefs/practices etc, you ascribe to others. Interestingly, you have constructed, in all probability without your conscious awareness, this sentence with dual meaning. What you thrust onto others as your observations of them are for all intents and purposes your repressed misgivings of your own perspectives. I feel not outrage but sympathy for your outlook. I hope you escape your tunnel vision before it's too late, for your own sake. In peace. |
