Because of one Nepal Bandh after another and some logistical snags, we'd been unable to continue with our monthly movie-screenings at the Russian Cultural Center for the last two months. Oh well. Minor setbacks are to be expected in any venture now and then. And that's life. Anyway, ow that things have become somwhat normal (are they?), The Kathmandu Film Archive (a collaboration between Martin Chautari and the Godavari Alumni Association) presents: Wednesday, July 4: "The Cranes are Flying" (The Russian by movie that caused a sensation at the Cannes in 1957) 35 MM screen. Thursday, July 5: The Living Dead (Russian with English subtitles) 35 MM screen. Friday, July 6: All About My Mother (The Spanish movie that beat Nepal-made "Caravan" at the Oscars 2000; Sapnish with English subtitles) on big video projection. All shows begin promptly at 6 pm. Tickets: Rs. 50/movie. Available at the venue Russian Cultural Center, Kamalpokhari. So, since many people from Nepal too read GBNC Web sites (and that's fabulous), come to the screenings of these movies, especially the last one, a copy of which we got straight from the director Pedro Almodovar in Barcelona. On another note, in part due to the Royal Massacre, the KFA's French Film Festival has been postponed till Nov/Dec 2001. Meantime, KFA members are holding talks to organize Iranian, Chinese and Egyptian Film Festivals in Kathmandu later this year. Let's see how things go. Meantime, a very special thanks to those who have been of great help with logistics and strategy and even as volunteers: ALL Martin Chautari people, Mahendra Honda Shakya, Neeraj Nepali, Surendra Sthapit, Kalpana Ghimire, Bhaskar Gautam, Sujata Thapa, Rajiv Dawadi and Arjun Gurung. oohi ashu
