Is it Namaste or Namaskar... in Nepali?

Namaste = NAMA + ISHA + TE : I bow to the God inside you.
Namaskar = NAMA + ISHA + KARA : I bow to the God with hands folded.
So, in Namaste no object is required. In Namaskar, it should be followed by Object to identify the person.

For example: Namaste!
Namaskar reader jyu!

(Given my poor knowledge in Sanskrit, I may be wrong. I hope Trikal jyu can make the distinction more clear)

According to the great satirist/humorist Bhairab Aryal (of the Jai Bhundi fame), the distinction between the two greetings is made in the following manner:

1. Namaste = used for ordinary folks, some similar to you or lower in the social/economic ladder

2. Namaskar = used for people who have cars, ie, people who enjoy higher socio-economic status than oneself. It makes sense because most people in Nepal don't own cars, so anyone who has one needs to ge distinguished in the greeting itself!

I think its not a big deal on Namaste or Namasker....

Taking about Bhirab Aryal, I also remember Modnath Prasit's one of his story, where he realises that a shopkeeper always used to greet with namaste to his fellow lecturer but not him, and he later found out that it was the coat which was getting the respect and greeting not the lecturers..Namaskar Sir bhanda ni Coat po ho ki..that was what he realised..that was really funny...

Malai ta Namaste wa namaskar khasai farak pardaina, but Namaskar seems more formal and respectful than Namaste..(that's what I think, not necessarily need to be true).....Pahila pesa le master (teacher not a tailor hai...) parya bhayera dherai nai namaste khahinthiyo...was not a choice maybe a bibasta???

I wonder if Taxi falls within the perimeter of a car, consequently making a taxi driver a car owner and thus , by my rude imagination, deserving a NAMASKAR

'Namaskar Taxi driver ji! boudha Jane", or" Taxi wala ! Jhamsikhel jau ta " or "ye driver dai!! Samakhushi jauna!!" or what ever nick names the Nepali tongue enjoys calling them with, doubtless with much affection sprouting from the idea of : "basudhaiva kutumbakam".

But don't you think that would sound a little weird , when such a person is addressed in this manner but also a bit funny.

My simple, dull, dark mind tells me the taxi Driver will simply look at you suppressing all the violently rising tide of in his bosom and just will 'Tiraskar' your 'Namaskar'..don't you think ?

Just me musing .and this is what happens when my brain gets fried by the scorching heat outside and a warm cup of coffee in my hand.

have a nice day folks.
