The political parties in Nepal and their student shock troops are closing down schools. Their demand is that these schools provide free education...I think it is a great idea that will help the poor in the country.

Besides free education, these political parties and their student affiliates will do a great service to the country if they can also begin a strike for the following demands:

1. Free health care...or close down all the hospitals
2. Free room and board ... or else close down all the hotels and restaurants
3. Free transportation...or else close down all buses, taxis, and airplanes
4. Free groceries... or else close down all shops and stores
5. Free rent....or else close down all buildings

Once these demands are met by the government or whoever, Nepal will really be that Shangrila again, the Utopian welfare state where everyone is fed, cared for, educated and housed. Go parties, go Akhil, go Nebesang!!

From Nepalnews:
More private school offices padlocked

Activists of seven student unions Wednesday locked up offices of 11 more boarding schools, including Buddhanilkantha Boarding School Wednesday pressing demands for free school education, the students said.

The students said they targeted schools Wednesday charging more that Rs.1,000 in monthly fees. In the last five days, students have padlocked administrative offices in more than 50 schools in the Valley providing quality education.

Schools have threatened closure if students persist with their demands. Strikes and intervention have marred the armosphere in schools for more than one month.

Talks between students and government broke down after government said it cannot meet demands for free school education.

I strongly disagree with this...actually, what do they think, by shutting down the schools, their problem will be solved...hilarious! u cant imagine how it hampers education. The children will be disadvantaged and will be deprived from educational activities...and who's going to pay for it...sarkar!!! nah. never...and yea...we can start to take steps one by one..but I dont understand why do they close educational institution..??? and our country, with the political elites possessed with lack of integrity and honesty, do u think they will go for it?? I think its stupidity to take these steps. Besides closing down schools, it would be better it they start taking certain steps that will neither effect the studies nor effect their freedom of thought and expression.

Such an absurd attempt to topple the new government. I don't know true information this is, but to me, it looks like these leaders are just adding a prefix "Free" on every businesses.

Suva Chintak...
You said>> "Once these demands are met by the government or whoever, Nepal will really be that Shangrila again, the Utopian welfare state where everyone is fed, cared for, educated and housed."

This is probably the most imprudent statement I've ever seen in sajha. Think this way: Nepalese are already in Shangrila stage, where everything is bliss and delight. You can feed yourself by running after leaders ; you can get free education by rallying in Tudikhel; you can take full advantage of human rights by killing and abducting innocent people. What a wonderful uptopian state you're living in!!

I find Suva Chintak's cheeky ripostes and sarcasm refreshing. I second the notions of making everything 'free.'

Why not go the whole hog and 'free' such student visionaries of their earthly shackles altogether ? Ditto for the politicos. Might as well make a clean sweep and free everyone of them and they of the burden of (mis)governing us all.

Perhaps Hellhound can lend us a hand in this endeavour too, as his thoughts on the 'free' enterprise were spot on the money !

Bravo! Deliverance is on hand !
