Does anyone living out there in San Francisco area know the best (cheapest) way to travel from San Francisco to Palo Alto (Stanford) ? I dont drive , so renting a car is not an option... Let me know if you know anything good and thanks in advance!
Meanwhile, some returant reccomendations wouldnt hurt either...(: Oh and is there any beach other than China Beach that you can actually swim in?

thanks ...

Nepali Kanchi, though I do not live in the Bay Area, I did travel around there in 1996 and was in a similar situation like yours. I took the Caltrain, the commuter rail service that runs (or at least used to run) between San Francisco and San Jose via Palo Alto. Services were fairly frequent and reasonably priced. The trains had double decker carriages which I have not seen anywhere else.

As far as restaurants are concerned, once again I am offering you outdated information. There was a good Afghani restaurant in the downtown area (I think it was in Market St) near the Oakland janay bridge. Also there are lots of good Chinese places in Chinatown. Don't miss the large bowls of noodle soup in one of the Vietnamese joints. The Sushi bar at the Japan Center (Benihana ho ki testai ke ho..Benighat chahi hoina) was also an interesting experience. There was also a Mexican chain called Uno(?) that served excellent burritos, much better than those served by Taco Bell :) Last but not least there is (or was) Kathmandu West in Cupertino.

Beach ko kura garda I went to the one at the end of Golden Gate Park. I loved the experience of being there, perhaps because it was my first visit to a beach. Ankhaa tankai tankai geet goongunaudai taruni haru heriraheko bela cheeso paani ko chaal le kyaa sita attyak dyaa thyo bhane malai. There are frequent public buses to that area.

Also don't miss the Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard Street, and the wineries at Napa Valley (you need your own transportation for the latter). And don't forget to take a light jacket when you are visiting the bay side in the evening, it can get pretty chilly there even in summer. I learned the hard way :) Khoi aru thau haru birsay..oh there was this Japanese tea garden and temple..another interesting location.

Anyway, have a wonderful trip. I am myself looking forward to revisiting that area in about 3 weeks. Lombard Street ko ukalo ma hamro bhet hune ho ki :)
