Geroge orwell is in vogue again. The Iraq war, the invasion of Afghanistan and many other display of hubris by US, again brings back the same old question Orwell posed in writing the animal farm and 1984&.i wonder what he would have had to say about the current US policy of smoking people out for mere suspicions of the imminent threats. Stalin and his totalitarian gov. were pigs&what would bush and co be represented by?..it was quite interesting reading Margaret Atwoods views regarding orwell and his works, though, I think eliotts article in time commemorating his centenary was very inexact. . It may well be argued if he would have opposed the current US tactics. He may have supported the US actions after all according to many observers, but I very much doubt it. he certainly would not have supported any imperialist intentions, no matter in what name it is done. He always spoke against middle class left wing attitude: the soviet constitution, its five-years plans, facism in spain and of course stalin himself.( He had hard time getting his book published that no one dared to speak out the stalin, which was in pact with most of central Europe and Britain then.) I dont think itll be that big an overstatement to say that the current US foreign policy is impinged by the same middle class left wing attitude he so vehemently spoke out against. And he certainly would not have approved the unilateral presence of forces in Iraq. Remember squealer?- the spin-doctor a la bush junior(?) No WMDs?- who was looking for one?- saddam was the biggest of them all! &&&.More later&. always&&&.dumdum
