Nepal has no border dispute in the northern frontier, but there are 54 cases of border encroachment from India, said a book Border Management of Nepal unveiled Wednesday.

Author Buddhi Narayan Shrestha, former director general of Survey Department, said Nepal and India need to sign a border agreement to end all disputes.

Efforts have been underway to sign such agreement for the last two decades. But the process is too slow. It could have been finished within two or three years, Shrestha said. Nepal and China signed such an agreement three decades ago ending all border disputes.

Dr. Harka Gurung said of the 26 districts bordering with India, Nepals border has been encroached in 21 districts. Nepal should adopt a border area development policy, said foreign affairs expert Hiranya Lal Shrestha.

As a solution to the problem, experts emphasised the need to adopt a regulated border system with the immediate neighbours. An open border is detrimental not only to Nepal but to India also, said foreign affairs expert Dr. Mohan Prasad Lohani.

Approximately, Nepal shares 1,200 and 1,800 kilometres of borders with China and India respectively. nepalnews.com mr July 9

India: With friend like this, who needs enemy, no?

I hear a lot of folks all worked up about sovereignty, they say King GBBS messed up big time October 4 and the need to bring back the sovereignty to the people.

But if I understand correctly, sovereignty is also about the defense of national territory, the principle of territorial integrity of a country.

So if India is encroaching and occupying over Nepali territory in 45 places, why are these parties and their leaders silent? Or are they all chakkas? Are they not concerned about national sovereignty when it concerns India? Where will they hold their democracy if there is no Nepali territory left? Nepal just has to look at what happened to Sikkim. It has democracy, but no national sovereignty...is that what we want for Nepal? I find their silence on this defeaning!

Hats off to Buddhi Narayan Shrestha for daring to expose the silent occupation of Nepali territory! Nepal amako aeuta choro ta saput janmecha!!
