I want to introduce a name here, a name that is historic to many Nepalese, including myself. This is the person, who introduced "e-mail" to me. This pioneer's name is Rajpal Singh. Rajpal, whereever you are I was trying to contact you.

I was amazed to see what email could do what the internet could do. First time I embraced internet was in 1991 and of course, internet was text only. The first Nepalese forum was The Nepal Digest, also known as TND.

Here is an essay I wrote about American History in TND back in 1994.

The Nepal Digest - Nov 4, 1994 (1 Mangshir 2051 BkSm)
From: Robin Pandey Subject: A View Toward American History by Robin Pandey To: Nepal@cs.niu.edu

Why did Columbus sailed toward Asia? Columbus was a sailor, who wanted to venture new and shortest way to get to Asia. Could he have acted alone? I surely give credit for his determination to pursuade his financer queen Isabella. He could not have done without some financer. The motive behind the financer queen Isabella was purely to gain economic benefit from Asia either from trade or from gaining the land.

Columbus accidentally landed on the land that most European didn't know about. The land happened to be the land of gold. All the people who came after Columbus had two motives: economic and religious, but mostly it was economic, to gain wealth. During 1500s and 1600s mostly spain dominated the world. Spanish began to sail toward west and colonize America. The name of this new land should have been Columbia, but it was named after a sailor named Amerigo Vespucci. This fact is not important as the fact that people in Europe realized the economic potential in America.

During 1600s English first attempted to colonize part of America called Roanoke. Although the attempt was a total failure, people in England did not stop. They knew the benefit of colonizing. English first successful colonization was in Virginia. Virginia was a joint stock company, that is wealthy people in England put money to finance the colonization to get dividend, money in return or to make profit.

English probably couldn't have succeeded colonizing Virginia without the help of native people of America. Powhatan, a powerful chief didn't just want to help English, his motive behind the allies was to get weapons and knives from English to fight against his neiboring enemy tribes. Without Powhatan's corn and food English would have a very hard time in America. English also learned to cultivate corn and tobacco. Tobacco was demanded madly in Europe. Thus, English were able to keep going in the colony by cultivating and selling tobacco to European.

Obviously, economic opportunity attracted English and European to settle in America. Also, a lot of people came to America for political, social, and religious freedom. But most people who came to America was for economic opportunity, and it still is attracting today, not only from Europe, but also from all over the world including from our beloved country Nepal. To be continued...

- I forgot what I wanted to write as I said... to be continued, perhaps colonization of Mars. ;)

We have come a long way in a decade. After TND, obviously GBNC is the awsome cream of crop mind forum. I also want to take the time to thank San Pradhan for designing this great site. People come in here and take things for granted, but without the support of these hard working people, this site would not have existed. Here are other a few great minds constantly saying something: Ashu, Biswo, Trailokya and others. What is going to be the next, a Talk Show about Nepal and Nepali people... Keep up the good work.

Dear Robinji:

It is nice to read your essay. Please keep up with your efforts.
I suggest you to have a look at www.suskera.com also, folks
there are quite energetic, and literature-conscious. Your essays
will be greatly appreciated there also.

In another note, I do not agree that I am one of the 'creams'. We
do interact here in this website, but our bailiwicks are different
and that is where we have to persevere to prove ourselves.
Also that is where our forte lies, our source of claim to fame
lies. It is fine to some extent to praise each other, but the
some serious readers can easily discern that the 'writers' here
are mollycoddling each other.

Having said that, I also think that few other posters here are
quite capable and worldly-wise fellows.I join you to praise
them.

Thank you Biswo. Suskera.com seems mature. By the way the founder of TND is Rajpal Singh. If anyone knows his phone number and email me privately, I would appreciate it. Email me at info@infoinform.com. Thanks.

Dear God,

I did not know you existed, but you need a reading course from people like Ashu, Biswo, Trailokya or even CK Lal.

"obviously GBNC is the awsome cream of crop mind forum." This is from my earlier writing. Great minds think alike. If you see yourself a cream of the crop you are the cream of the crop. If you see your self dirt than you are dirt.

How do you view yourself?

"If you can see it you can achieve it" - Walt Disney.

God, I think you have a personal problem with Robin Pandey. God what have you done lately, beside stabbing on somebody's back with disguised name like GOD. GOD, DO something valueable first then throw your pathetic two cents at someone personally.

You are the type of GOD throwing rocks at Christopher Columbus when he said he will sail to Asia. God you were throwing rocks at da vinci when he said he could fly. God you were mocking at Neal Armstrong, when he was about to land on the moon.

God GROW UP. God read a book called "I am ok you are ok".

I am not seeking glory, I have already achieved my GLORY. I am merely here to help. Say kudos to those who are doing a good job and give a pat on their back. Just support GBNC.

GOD go send your lightning in Antartica. GOD go talk to REAL GOD

Your humble human being.
