After seeing the mess in TU, Nepal, I will not occupy following 10 positions even if I am given chances (though there are no chances to get such offers) 1. Not occupy TU's any head of the department. When whole teachers are too much polarized on political background, how can make a decision based on professional background. Its very funny to a program co-ordinator behaving very strangly last spring who belonged to Maoists panel, said he does not need to worry now onwards because BRB will be soon PM of nepal and he will be given promotion to the head of the deparment once BRB's group rules the country................ 2. Not to take any position as leader in any course/ subjects. Student announce strike 70% of academic year, and blame on teachers for not teaching well. Are you going to teach them in their home? 3. Not to take any decision making positions in any institutes under TU. since TU does not have enough resources, you can not fulfil any demand just because student want? 4. Not to take any positions in hostel stewardship. They use that 1KW heater, and complain that electricity is not working. The mess managers usually in Nepali hostels are under the control of student union's and they show over bills in purchases cheating the common students. When a ANNFSU's leader runs the mess and feeds every day "SQUISH (check spelling) or Lauka", its acceptable for the ANNFSU group, but, when its mess manager switched to others, they start shouting. I remember an independent friend ran a separte parallel mess with same money but quality food, the ANNFSU burglars complained that the parallel quality mess was for son's of feuds, but, could not explain why the cost did not vary? ANNFSU run mess caused 66 students to suffer Jaundice out of 165 residing students................ Hostel warden was silent. His complain against our complain of use of wrong oil, he can not speak against mess manager because he belongs ot ANNFSU, and he will be kicked out if he speaks against any ANNFSU students. Do you want to occupy such dummy position? Well, you will be surprised to hear that the student union leader of my campus took spoons from mess and collected many spoon and fork in their room. In Nepali campus, its pride of student union leaders, they have competition on "who can steal more?" and complain in day time as if a great honest person. 5. Not to take any positions in sports matter. The students will not like to pay a dammn cent, but, will take all sports utilities to their room and make it a private property. Usually, it happens with student union leaders. They are real thieves in campus life (background scene). 6. Not to take any positions in registrar's office. One day either burgalars in ANNFSU or in NSU will put padlock or burn your office ........... despite your attempt to work hard for their betterment. The key problem they will not listen to you is that they don't want to hear that budget in TU is simply too low to main standard for 200,000 students. 7. Not to take any responsibility in educational tours. The irresponsible student will not listen to your safety advices, e.g. go to bungy jump and die, get blame on you. Ride on roof of bus, and die or get trapped into accident. 8. Not take any responsibility in Library matters. I had seen student union leaders shouting for lack of book in library and next morning I found 10 library books of same author same title in hostel room of same student union leader? 7 Out of 11 student union leader went to steal the book from library. The library issuing record card that was turn out of the book. With my surprise, the leader replied "there are so many books in library and I did not have one. Aba ke garne ......... rati gayer udayeko ......" My surprise was "why same book but 10 pieces ? ", k garne rati gako dekhiyena? ........ Poor fellows, when exam came, just after distribution of question paper in exam, they started shouting "na padhayeko bata question aayo?". Such stories still continue.... Only faces changed, but, behavior did not change. Student unions are the culprits of all mess in Nepali education system. 9. Any position in controller of examination @ jamal. One day that building will get collapsed, as it happend in Durbar school. 10. ............... I wish I never become a teacher in TU. God Bless TU and its student leaders. It was amazing to hear that padlocking stories in Pulchowk Campus, when Dean settled matter with ANNFSU, NSU locked the doors. This kind of musical chair continues and blame goes to teachers, and those who occupy positions in a university that does not have real financial resource to do anything .... while demands keep on floating ................ All the demands from these burglars student unions are based on advice of political parites: as long as these political parties control HMG/Nepal, all these demands are kept in file, and they start surfacing when these so called political leaders lose positions in singa durbar...... So, TU is magi khane bhado of Nepali politics. GP GP

Since my father is a department head at TU, I know what you mean. He is always udner stress becuase of the politicization of the department. Even the most terrible teachers seem to have some sort of poitical affiliation, which makes it awfully hard to kick them out of the department, or give them less classes. Moreover, the teachers don't know why they are teaching and students don't know why they are studying. Some are there for the degree which will help them get promotions, but many students are there for political reasons. I agree with most of your points. I think the ninth one is quite outdated because the controller's office is now at Balkhu. Jamal chadi sakyo.. la ta...

GP has raised vital concerns. They are valid. However, someone has to run the administration and make decisions. I never imagined that so much disarray could happen to our educational system. Let's hope for best.

Probably, entropy theory going to apply into our educational institutions in Nepal?? I cross fingers that the situation would not prevail like in Afaganistan .....as I saw in TV, it was horrendous amount of damange done by Talibans....
