Hi all,

Our country Nepal is a wonderful place for adventure sports.

Nepal offers -- at reasonable rates to Nepalis -- tons of opportunities to do bungy-jumping, para-gliding, hang-gliding, hiking, trekking, canoeing, kayaking, rapeling mountaineering, and of course, rafting.

In future, purely from a business standpoint, Nepal could be developed further as a top destination for (nature-friendly) adventure sports (yeah, let's add sky-diving too!)

Meantime, with Bhaktapur's Yogi Kayastha as our able leader, a bunch of us nature-loving friends are going rafting this coming Saturday. Should be fun, assuming we don't get rained out.

Iso Freak, I tried calling you, but your line was/is busy -- but do come to this, this Saturday. Call me at the office, and I'll give you details. Niranjan, if you are reading
this. do come too. Plus, other Sajha folks in Kathmandu are welcome too.

Sounds like an exciting outing at a reasonable price.
I got here about a week ago and I don't know if it's because I'm not working and all that but Kathmandu has become ridiculously expensive! No?

Anyway, although I can't make this trip this time aorund, I would love to connect with other Sajha folks here. I take it IS-freak doesn't have much left.

By the by, isn't rafting quite a dangerous sport this time of the year?

Bagmati looks ominously swollen and dirty. I can only imagine what Trishuli must be like.
Boke Posted on 15-Jul-03 08:21 AM

Sounds like fun. Does one have to know how to swim before partaking in rafting pleasure?
NK Posted on 15-Jul-03 08:47 AM

Boke, nope.
bhenda2 Posted on 15-Jul-03 08:48 AM

Class 2 rafting is not that rough its a medium one....it sounds so fun...I wish I was in Nepal.

What about helmets Ashu?? I dont think its a wise idea to go rafting without them.

Bhenda2,

Thanks for your advice on helmets.

I'll have to check with our leader Yogi Kayastha, and see what's what. Since Yogi, a
long-time friend, has been taking us friends on numerous treks, hikes, trips and so on and on, I would assume that he must have thought about the helmets too, if need be.

At any rate, Brook, the issue of safety is certainly a topmost priority on a trip like this, and I'll make sure that it stays the topmost priority.

Najar, I sure will post pictures and a write-up, just like the one for that Champa Devi
hike of March '03.

Hi all,

Rafting on Bhote Koshi was very, very good yesterday. Eleven of us enjoyed and survived the trip all right.

I urge all of you to go rafting once or more in Nepal -- especially in the months of April and May, or in the Fall.

Yogi Kayastha, nature maven, will do a write-up of the trip, and he and Surendra Sthapit will post the pictures too . . . on a Web site, and a link will be provided soon.

Next adventure sport to look forward to: Paragliding in Pokhara in Sept.
