NK,
I totally agree with you. Yes, how does one "look intellecutal?" By his/her dress up? hair style? looks? Make ups?

People do not have any idea what they're eulogizing here by saying, "Ashu looks intellectual..." Everybody, who reads Sajha postings from Ashu, can almost judge he's got gleaming and intellectual personality, based on his "writings". You guys are just making a mountain out of a molehill. Come on..try to be vigilant when you write something in public forum.
Gokul Posted on 18-Jul-03 07:59 AM

Hi all,
When we see a well-dressed, healthy-looking and confident person about to deliver a lecture, it is natural to assume that the person must be intellectual. Such tendency is caused by our judgmental error known as "representativeness bias". We have mostly seen intellectuals dressed like Ashu, so if Ashu is also dressed like one of them, then he must be an intellectual!

However, Ashu's intellect shines not from the Tuxedo or tie he is wearing. It radiates from his words and ideas that are scattered everywhere in this forum. Although I have not met him yet in person, I believe he is well-read, hardworking, agressive and above all an honest person whether we see him in tuxedo or in monk's robe.

"When we see a well-dressed, healthy-looking and confident person about to deliver a lecture, it is natural to assume that the person must be intellectual."

Everybody has a different insight when it comes to judge a person by his/her looks. For me, I won't call somebody "intellectual" until/unless I hear his/her speech/discussions, or writings, knowing the fact that the defination of "intellectual" has nothing to do with looks/dress up. Nevertheless, looking confident is very important when you juggle up with public in any context...

Logical Sense Posted on 18-Jul-03 09:46 AM

Tyo photo Sanchai Ashujiko ho? Ali Motaunu Bhayecha Ki Kya Ho? Tara Daami Dekhiyeko Cha Hai. I am not sure Daami translates to 'intellectual' or not. Daami may say you look 'pleasant'.

Anyways, what comes in your mind about a person, when you just hear a name, or just see a person, or just talk to a person, or just see a photo, or just read his writings, or combination of these things?

I feel, most of the time you do make a mental personality of that person and you may be delighted or dispappointed when you really meet that person, after knowing for a while then both perception and reality blends though seemlessly.

So, someone thinking Ashuji looks 'intllectual' does not seem out of ordinary to me, very logical.

BTW: My friends would pull my leg when I said ' .. Bhandari Namai Sunda Kasto Young Lagcha' about Sikkim's CM.

What I am saying is I do understand this is an interesting but controversial topic.

Anyways, what you can make out when you hear a name Ashutosh? (I had posted this in another thread! - could not resist to post it again, sorry for the redundancy - this thread seemed a logical place to analyze Ashuji's name)

"Ashutosh as a first name gives you a very independent nature, yet you are friendly, approachable, and generous. You can be a spontaneous, expressive, and talkative person. Generally you are good-natured, though at times you can be rather blunt and sarcastic. This name incorporates creative, artistic, and musical abilities, and there would be an element of originality in all that you do. You like to do things on the spur of the moment without planning or prior arrangements. Your spirits are buoyed up greatly by encouragement and appreciation. There is a tendency to be scattering in your efforts and you prefer to avoid menial jobs of a routine and repetitive nature. You are inclined to pursue good times and emotional indulgences to excess. Weaknesses in health due to the influence of this name centre in the head. You could experience headaches, or difficulties with your teeth, ears"

This is from a website http://www.kabalarians.com which analyzes you from your name, it is kind of Trikal ++/--.

Would Socrates look intellectual??

Mera Dui Sabda Haru Ashu jyu ko bare ma:

He should definitely be declared Mr. Sajhapur. His many, many thought provoking comments and discussions; the patient and sustained dismantling of all his detractors and opponents' attacks; and now that glorious and radiant countenance from the pulpit definitely makes him Numero Uno!

In one of the other threads, he was also given high scores on his looks by some of the most discerning members of the fairer sex. So intellectually, physically, and pedigrically (he went to STX and then to Harvard), Ashu is the most eligible bachelor that side of the Atlantic. (Was there a damsel in the other thread who was trying to make up her mind about going with a STX or BNK guy? Well, reel this one in lady, as fast as you can!)

So, hopefully he will make up his mind from the countless proposals he is being bombarded with and we will get to hear wedding bells before this year is over.

Go Ashu jyu, you da ladies' man!

Baaf Ray Baaf . . . Ke ho yesto?

LS: Nice stuff on "Ashutosh". But I happen to think that Myers-Briggs personality tests are better than a Web sites that generates random charactersistics for any given name, MB tests are NOT fully accurate. I am an ENTP, and here's a profile of an ENTP.

http://members.rogers.com/kushabi/ENTP.html

Bhunte and Suva Chintak . . . Thanks to your words, my nose is now longer than Pinnochio's. :-)

Rbaral and others: Sure, let's meet up in Kathmandu and do interesting guff-suff about this and that and everything.

Poonte, it's NOT a question of "dulahi kahile bhitryaune ho?". In this age of increasing gender equality, don't be surprised if the "dulahi" ends up "bhitrai-ing" me :-)

Gokul, when we meet with NK someday (NK likes Merlot wines, and I'll buy her a bottle
or two at Bhat Bhateni), let's start our kurakani by discussing what psychologists mean when they talk about Fundamental Attribution Error (FAE) -- or, the misleading habit of overestimating the importance of certain character traits in an individual while ignoring the importance of context.

Thanks everyone for your words and good cheer.

Sure, NK.

The wines to be served to you are: "Jacob's Creek Merlot" Australia, 1998, and
Nepal's own super-smooth Hinwa wine, distilled and botteled in Sanhkuwa.sabha
zilla.

Kathmandu, you'll be delighted to know, has become a wine-lover's paradise -- with wide selections at wine shops, and with restaurants and hotels throwing fancy wine-tasting parties, where everyone shows up dressed in black :-)
