Is this a beginning of Civil War in Nepal? What can you sniff from the news below? -- bhunte RPP and five party workers clash in Kavre KOL Report KATHMANDU, July 21 - There has been fresh clashes between the political workers of agitating five parties and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) workers in Kabre district Monday. The clash began when the protest rally called by five parties against the mishandling of Krishna Budhi Bajgai by some miscreants of RPP affiliated youths reached near the RPP office at Banepa. The incident was stirred by stone pelting from both the sides of RPP and five party workers at each other in which Niranjan Baidar and Atmaram Prajuli, the political workers of five parties got head injuries. The agitating parties in protest had halted the movement of transport for some hours. According to Keshariraj Ghimere the police in charge of Kabre district, consistent dialogues are being held to mitigate the political tension between the two sides at the site. This is the first time that the political workers of regressive ideology and progressive ideology clash for the sake of their political interest after the political upheavals of October 4 in the country. Sounds to me more like a local fight among party workers. Two groups of civilians throwing stones at eachother is NOT civil war. If an army battalion had arrived to support the RPP group, and gunned down their opponents... well that would be another matter and your question might be relevant... but thankfully that did not happen. I do find the journalist's concluding sentence really interesting though... regressive ideology versus progressive ideology...

Arnico ji, Well, when maoist had waged their peoples' war, they begin with lathi and khukuris. I still remember a cartoon in a local news paper in Kathmandu where Baburam waging the war with a 'guleli'. And, now we can see how sophisticated weapons they are using. I agree with you about state machiniaries siding with the ruling party people in case of civil war. However, groups of people of different ideologies physically fighting each other is not a good indication. People in other parts of Nepal may follow it and we don't know what would it lead us to. And, civil war kind of situation is anyone's first guess. The reporter's opinion is also interesting to me.
