Hello friends;

This is Mahabir Pun from Nepal. I am writting this e-mail in order to
request if you know anybody coming to Nepal from America and willing to
carry some equipment such as a solar panel or a wind generator for
Himanchal High School, Nepal. I need those equipment by August 15.

As many of you know that I am working to set up a wireless networking
in six villages in Myagdi district Nepal for local and long distance
communication using telephone and Internet. I am also going to use the
system for distance teaching. I am using 802.11b Wireless Ethernet
Accesspoints for this project. I have tested the system successfully
and it works very well even if the ISP is about 30 mile far. We are
working at the final stage of this project.

A student from the University of California at Los Angeles, Mark
Michalski, has gotten $10,000 grant to come to Nepal and help me to set
up the system. He is coming with another student Robin Shields in the
middle of August. We will finish the set up by the end of September.

With the grant money Mark has bought a lots of equipment for the
networking project. Keeping money barely enough for his travel expense
he has spent almost all the money for buying equipment. Since Mark and
Robin both are going to have excess baggage, they are thinking to ship
some of the items such as solar panels, and wind generators to Nepal.
However, Mark is running out of the money now.

Therefore I am trying to find people, wh would be willing to help carry
some of the items to Nepal. If you are travelling to Nepal around
August 15, or if you know somebody , who is travelling around that time
and willing to carry one item (either a 120W solar panel or a 400W wind
generator) please let me know. I don't know yet how much each item
weighs, but they are not light.

I have attached the plan for the wireless networking. As for as I know,
this is going to the first one in the rural areas of Nepal.

This will be a great help and I appreciate very much for help.

Thank you.

Mahabir Pun

Just a thought: Why don't you write directly to FedEx, DHL, UPS ?

Give them sufficient background on the project and what it means for the people on the ground. Include lots of pictures of mountains and poor kids in that school are de rigeur. The cargo/delivery companies may very well fly in the equipment free to Nepal. Give it a shot !
